Commanders

In 0.9.5, we're starting the process of updating the unique upgrades. The current concept provides an additional opportunity to mount an upgrade with special-but-balanced bonuses in comparison with regular upgrades.

These changes will balance the effectiveness of the various unique upgrades, while preserving the unique gameplay of each ship.

List of changes

Spojler

Enhanced Armaments (Yueyang, fifth slot)

  • The bonus that reduces the main battery reload time has been increased from 10 to 15%.
  • Removed penalties on the action time of ship consumables.
  • Added a bonus increasing the action time of Surveillance Radar.
  • Added a bonus increasing smoke screen dispersion time by 20%.
  • Removed a bonus that reduced the torpedo tube reload time.

The older version of this upgrade was unpopular because of low competitiveness with other upgrades in the slot. The new variant of the upgrade offers more aggressive gameplay with an accent on consumables and main battery instead of the concealment upgrade which involves a safe playstyle.

Heavyweight Artillery (Khabarovsk, fifth slot)

  • Removed a penalty that reduced the traverse speed of her main turrets.
  • The bonus applied to the main battery’s firing range increased from 8 to 10%.
  • Added a 20% penalty to the action time of the ship’s consumables.

The upgrade now places much stronger emphasis on aggressive gameplay due to the enhanced main battery guns and reduced effectiveness of consumables.

Enhanced Countermeasures (Worcester, sixth slot)

  • Moved from the fifth to the sixth slot.
  • Removed all bonuses on the action time of her consumables.
  • Added a bonus reducing the reload time of the Priority AA sector by 20%.
  • Added a bonus reducing the reload time of ship consumables by 20%.
  • Added a bonus increasing the number of the ship's consumable charges by one.

The upgrade moved from the fifth to the sixth slot, which means that it no longer has to compete with other upgrades that provide bonuses to maneuverability and detectability. The new parameters emphasize the role of this ship as a versatile cruiser.

Enhanced Propulsion (Des Moines, sixth slot)

  • Reduced the bonus to engine power. Now, with the unique upgrade and the “Propulsion Modification 1” upgrade, it’ll take the cruiser 21% more time to reach maximum forward speed, and it’ll take three times more time to reach maximum backward speed. The ship will still be gaining speed faster with these two upgrades compared to having just one of them. At the same time, the time it takes the ship to reach 1/2 and 3/4 of her speed remains almost the same.
  • Removed a penalty on the action time of Surveillance Radar.

The bonus to engine power was lowered to reduce the excessive effectiveness of the upgrade. The penalty to the duration of Surveillance Radar didn’t affect the use and effectiveness of the upgrade. Players will now choose between this unique upgrade and an upgrade that increases firepower.

Enhanced Main Armaments (Großer Kurfürst, sixth slot)

  • The bonus reducing the main battery’s reload time has been decreased from 15 to 10%.
  • Removed a penalty that reduced the traverse speed of her main turrets.

Enhanced Damage Control System (Montana, fifth slot)

  • The bonus reducing fire extinguishing time has been decreased from 15 to 10%.
  • The bonus reducing flooding recovery time has been decreased from 30 to 10%.

Additional Main Battery Loader (République, sixth slot)

  • Removed a penalty that reduced the traverse speed of her main turrets.

Accelerated Torpedo Tube Reload (Shimakaze, sixth slot)

  • The penalty reducing the torpedo tube traverse speed has been decreased from 80 to 70%.

Concerning flag_Germany_18970d883c7758b53538983bd09standard_01624cacb82f39f77a4e677a7b9fdf4X Großer Kurfürst, flag_USA_dd9fc06d19a8638f4077ab2fe200d22standard_01624cacb82f39f77a4e677a7b9fdf4X Montana, flag_France_1b45875fe2166c392a4b0801c9fastandard_01624cacb82f39f77a4e677a7b9fdf4X République, and flag_Japan_740b57e1da9b5d3fe46b61e09e3dcstandard_357acc9fc0e2f7d98f047c99edffad3X Shimakaze, balance changes designed to compensate for the excessive or insufficient effectiveness of their unique upgrades were made.

Expect changes to the unique upgrades of other ships in the coming updates.

I just hope we'll get a detailed analysis of the effects of the current UU changed before you start to tinker with the other ones ...

  • YY finally looks interesting. Combine with main gun reload in 6th to have a potent radar-gunboat
  • Montanas UU's even more useless than it was. That 2/3 pickrate is seriously depressing, but I doubt it will change much. Those who picked it before likely already lacked any reasoning behind that choice other than "I have it, might aswell use it"
  • GK & Rep changes don't seem to be particularly impactful
  • DM - I just hope this is enough. Throttledodging needs to go, regardless of which ship it is

Don't really care about the rest, but..

  • Shimakaze - you really think this will change anything? :Smile_veryhappy:

Ok so what is left that needs picking around with ?

Don´t much like the idea of WG changing unique upgrades that I have invested a lot of grinding to get.

Cost of buying a UU in the RB is 19200, you receive 10000 RB points for a reset line so it costs two complete lines reset.

(Even the old way of obtaining a UU was a hell of a grind but this is insane, also some UU:s are so bad they dont even make any sense)

No, an actual proper evaluation with number of players/games etc. The "analysis" presented in that blog is very crude and simple and opens more questions about the analysis itself than it answers about the decisions made based on that ...

Like f.e. observations for Khabarovsk: how many players using the UU switched the captain to SI while not having it previously etc ... How many players using the UU stopped playing the Khaba/demounted the UU/dropped the frequency of playing the ship etc ....

You know ... a PROPER evaluation ...

Could you please add missions that give you research points?

  • the missions could be for specific Tiers, lines or ships
  • the missions could be free or buyable in the armory with credits or coal (not expensive, just as a tool to regulate the number of active missions)

Thanks for the link. Very much appreciate the information. We need more of this kind of information.

Just few questions:

1. Why this article was not linked to game homepage news? (Or rather why there is lot of information given in blog, facebook, reddit, streams etc. but not on official home page or on official forum? Even just a link to all "official" information from developers would help a great deal instead of hunting proper information from several different sites.)

2. Should you check combination of effect and popularity?

Kurfurst 56,88% + 2,0 WR (so just over your threshold)

Montana 66,85% and +1,1 WR -> Problem.

Henri 62.01% and +0,7 WR -> Marked as problem, even if not acted upon (like Henry needed any nerfing after you made is accelerate like a slug).

Same time:

Gearing 63,59% and +1,2 WR -> Not a problem.

Conqueror 64,29% and + 0,3 WR -> Not a problem.

Just compare these to poor Henry who was marked for nerfing......

Would have been nice to see Yamato, Moskva, Zao, Minotaur, Z-52 and Grozovoi numbers for comparison.

Also I would appreciate, if after some weeks/months we could get a follow up post telling how those values changed. Somehow I don't expect Shima UU to become much more popular or effective...

Dev Blog info is linked in the forum. These are early ideas for future content and are subject to change. Before being implemented and going live, the content is published on the Dev News for a patch and then in the patch notes. Hard to miss.

You mean like these patch notes https://worldofwarships.eu/en/news/game-updates/update-095-dockyard/ ?

There is list of changes, but my question is why there is not a link to this more in-depth article from dev-blog? Patch note is from 9th of June while article is from 6th of June, so article has been online. Why not give a hint and direction that there is some more and better information available?

It would be very helpful if there was one place where to look for official information (even if it just had links to Reddit Q&A, Twitch Streams, Dev Blog, etc.), and not hunt it down on different platforms.
