Hi Captain,

Yes, As also Hanse77SWE correctly stated, in order to get the Odin you have to purchase at least 2 shipbuilding phases for a total of 3500 doubloons.

Ouch. That's a deal breaker for me I think. In WoT marathons, which are mostly for T8 premiums, the highest tier premiums available(not to be confused with reward tanks etc) there's ALWAYS the option to grind the tank for FREE. Now, the requirements may be higher and downright ludicrous at times in which a person would actually need to play the game all day every day just to save the last 5-10 euro but the option to get the vehicle for free is still there. The options to pay at any given stage is there too of course. This marathon, or event or whatever it's supposed to be, does not offer this free ship option and backs players into a corner to pay if they want it and while it comes with a Graf Free along the way which is a really nice reward in all fairness, and while nobody is forced to buy the Odin, the event is still cleverly designed whereby it's across a long stretch of time(relatively speaking for gaming) and a player will feel they have invested so much time in it(even though this is an illusion and most all stage completions are just a bi-product from playing) that they feel almost "stupid" not to buy it if they complete all the stages. That's a bit devious imho.

The Odin should have been available for free with extra added grindy stages of requirements which would be unlikely for most players other than the most dedicated no-lifers(lol) and this would have made the marathon appear much less of a money collection basket on the surface but still would have resulted in most players that would pay money to buy it at some stage anyway.

I suspect that the event would be the way you say, if not for the shadow hanging over it in the shape of a big PR. WG seems to be of the opinion that the chief 'mistake' (other words are of course available) relating to that event was one of communication (however much others' mileage may vary), so they've gone for the simpler option of just flat out stating this time that people will have to pay if they want to get Odin, avoiding any uncertainty.

Personally I decided to concentrate on just getting the Spee, which I managed a little while ago; without needing to do all those extra stages, the grind was actually almost comfortable and with a very generous timeframe ;)

The problem with that (as already explained NobleSauvage above) is they pretty recently tried such an event very similar to what-I-hear-are those WoT marathons in WoWs. During Christmas, the big dockyard prize was T10 Puerto Rico, but the dubloon costs (for "boosters" and finally an outright "buy now" price) were even more ludicrous than for Odin (how they can keep stating 3500 dubloons is at 90% discount on a T8 ship is beyond me, that is at best a 75% discount unless you start overinflating the price artificially) and the building was progressing differently. In short you wanted as many boosts as early as possible, because the later you chose to grind or purchase a boost, the less value you got from it. It was a big mess that only people used to pour over stats could make sense of in spreadsheets of their own making. And on top of that WG dared to claim it was perfectly possible to complete enough missions to get enough of the free boosters in time to get the ship "entirely for free".

In practice you had to literally have nothing else to do over the Holidays and be decent at the game (with enough good camos, signals, etc.) to have any chance at all.

Neither PR nor Odin events are good in my opinion. It's just Odin is so much more clear and fair in comparison it's ridiculous.

Now what I would love for a dockyard event is having the ability to get the ship for free (and if we talk a questionable T8 ship, that should be a very real and practical chance to get it for free, NOT the theoretical WoT and PR chance) but with the opportunity for whales to flex their wallets if they want to speed up the process. The catch here is that the amount being required to spend should be very transparent from the start, easily calculated by at least a portion of the population (was gonna write most of the population, but well, my faith in others only goes so far after what I witness daily of peopls's usual math abilities) and shouldn't be inflated just for the sake of WG being able to claim huge discounts that don't actually take place (see Odin nonsense).

Ironically enough, such an event, only missing the dockyard visuals, actually happened a couple years back in WoWs: The Cossack grind. Entirely average players were able to complete missions week afte week eventually earning the T8 Cossack for "almost" free. Okay, even this event wasn't ideal but it was as close as WG could get, I guess. In practice, even the most dedicated players (and the grind wasn't anywhere near hard for those, myself included back then) could obtain Cossack for about 0,8 Euro. Heck, even if you missed some missions, you could still get it for the same price as you actually bought 4 specific tokens while strictly speaking, the completionists only needed 1. If you missed three weekly missions, you still only had to pay that much. Obviously if you slacked more, then the price increased.

Now it's ridiculous to compare Odin and Cossack. The directives are far more grindy nowadays and you still have to expend way more even in the best case scenario to get Odin. I guess that's all because of the added visuals of the dockyard and the ship constructing...
