[THESO] KillStealBoss Players 12,123 posts 62,190 battles Report post #1 Posted June 4, 2020 Hello, I just saw Flamu and other streamers pronounce this ship as if it was in English. While I checked it out and it's "Bagratyon" (long "O"). I know this kind of info isn't that important but hey, why not.
[CHEFT] DFens_666 Players 13,162 posts 11,029 battles Report post #2 Posted June 4, 2020 Maybe happens because it has an english style ending. bagraTION ... pronounciaTION. Otherwise i dont see a reason to pronounce it like that. Id say it as its written, which is probably not 100% correct either, but still better than the english version
[R_N_G] Bindolaf_Werebane Players 1,387 posts 12,045 battles Report post #3 Posted June 4, 2020 I do find it funny that flamu says Bagration as if it rhymed with carnation, but then he admits himself that he butchers the pronunciation.

[ABR] J4ckCarter Players 55 posts 15,607 battles Report post #5 Posted June 4, 2020 Use the english word EON (denoting a long period of time) as the correct way to pronounce it, so 'BAGRATEON' is the way. The name comes from the famous Russian Military general who served in the Napoleonic wars and was a subordinate of Marshal Suvorov. I did smile when I saw Flamu's video and he has the humility to realise it, which many other CCs dont...

[ROUGH] Yamashiro42 Players 1,065 posts 26,558 battles Report post #7 Posted June 4, 2020 I have witnessed some other CCs too doing some weird pronunciation of several other ships' names, eg. Amagi, Graf Spee, Jaguar... But AFAIK they are not obliged by their contracts with WG not to show their ignorance.

[NAN0] HaachamaShipping Players 8,474 posts 10,052 battles Report post #16 Posted June 4, 2020 Yeah, noticed it too, but mispronouncing names is common and always was, because it's WoWS, not Duolingo, so people aren't here to learn how to speak a different language. 2 hours ago, J4ckCarter said: Use the english word EON (denoting a long period of time) as the correct way to pronounce it, so 'BAGRATEON' is the way. Bagrateon or Bagratyon works, I guess, to describe the pronounciation. At least of the ending. Now, if people would get Roon right...

Even after listening to the ship name on PolskieRadio, the remaining problem for me is the "y" Bł -> y <- skawica Is it pronounced similar to an "i" and if not, what's the difference?
