Would you agree to modify your statement to, "she performs similar to other silver cruisers, when fully upgraded and with a relatively high-point captain"? Most Tier IX ships perform badly when stock. That is the way this game works. And yes, most players use 10+ point captains at this Tier, probably even 14+ points. That is not unusual. When you expect a great performing ship Tier IX, when played stock with a one point captain, then you have to wait quite a bit for that. THAT would be unusual. [R_N_G] Bindolaf_Werebane Players 1,387 posts 12,045 battles Report post #52 Posted June 5, 2020 Captain is 14 points, so not too bad. I don't expect a great performing ship, I really don't. I've played other "bad" ships and enjoyed them. I'll only mention the St. Louis and the Genova, both of which I really liked. I still see the Buffalo as way below average and, as I said, a slap in the face. I don't take too well to that. I will enjoy the Des Moines when and if I get it. In the meantime there are much better ships to have fun with than the Buffalo and that's what I'm going to do. Thanks for the lively discussion.

After it comes the Buffalo. You get less speed, worse reload, more sluggishness, worse concealment... and 15.6 km range. At tier IX. My current strategy of grinding the Buffalo is play it once a day, totally naked and pretty much yolo. That takes away 5 minutes of my time and nets me 500 to 2000 xp. I figure in 6-8 months I'll have the Des Moines. Works for me. Oh I had almost missed this. I hope I am misunderstanding you here but purposefully suiciding by enemy just because you don't like a ship would absolutely be against the game rules. It would also be both unsportsmanlike and very unkind to your teammates.

I was talking about the Buffalo, not the Baltimore. Baltimore suffered from tier 8 matchmaking sometimes, but I found it ok. Playing the Buffalo as I do, I get about 500-800 xp for a loss and 1.5 to 2k for a win. 5 minutes. I'm just fine with that. No, I will not play DM this way. I have actually not played any other ship this way. Usually, I just stop the line. The Hipper, for example, I found a bunch of unfun mediocrity. Stopped playing the line. But the Buffalo is a direct @#&$ you to the players, as far as I'm concerned. So, I'm behaving accordingly. Ships I liked? Quite a few. Battleships: Fuso, Lyon, North Carolina, Iowa, Montana, Izumo, Yamato. Cruisers: Furutaka, all the French ones except the Algerie, the new Yorck, Trento, Omaha, Pensacola, loved the Helena. Destroyers: my least favorite class, but Öland, Kagero, Farragut, fun ships. CVs are pretty ok, can be fun. yeah, i'm sceptical about Buffalo too, specially after Baltimore. about being bottom tier it's not that bad, Chapayev was painful for me, specially after Shchors, there wasn't a single game with the t8 and tier 9 where i wouldn't wish to be in Schohrs, but i did it, i get through , i have Moskva. Hipper...well, it has everything to be a great ship but for some reason it isn't, what i was expecting from Hipper i got from Baltimore, I'm at Roon now . I never did what you are doing even with chapayev or Hipper i fought to the bitter end. But if you are with that mindset you are better off in co-op. Not only you can do more games per hour but you can earn more XP per hour if you manage to do between 500 or more per game, in average for a random game you can do 2 co-op games things add up in the end. Nowadays many players if not all go to co-op to grind mission/directives requirements anyways. And you can shorten your estimative to reach DM Use economic signals (flags) and camo with XP bonus, even in co-op they will pay off and if you use flags and camo with free XP bonuses you don't have to play the Buffalo , you can play what you like (with those bonuses) and free XP the freaking thing. don't ruin the game for others and don't sap your fun/enjoyment

At tier IX having a total lemon, that will perform adequately only when I spend a bunch of free xp and credits on her and not before, is - to me - unacceptable. An affront even. Now, I understand why. And I can live with some worse ships at tier IX. I realize that "stock" ships can be iffy. To me, though, the Buffalo goes above and beyond. As stock it has no redeeming qualities, none. Hence my assertion. Nope, not one cent, not one point of free xp, not one flag, not one camouflage will be expended. It's okay for a stock ship if you have an 11 point captain (preferably John Doe for that sweet expert loader) and you use the range mod. 16.4 km range works reasonably well. If you run stock with reload mod, I'd imagine the 14.1 km range would feel really crippling, especially since you need to show some broadside to get meaningful firepower.
