It is good so far, pretty much fair. Except for one tiny & nasty bummer. It appears that sometimes the algorithm manages to sort experienced players in one team and inexperienced players in other (high tiers mostly), and no divisions involved. At first, I assume that I'm tripping but after close inspection of team-ups after the battle, it appears that I'm not. One can only imagine how these matches end up, the quick and utter destruction of underdogs.

if you mean 0 vs 12 kill battles then yes been at those . very balanced yes

I am sure we have all been frustrated playing certain matches. I am not 100% convinced that the MM is the best it can be, especially when you lose 10 matches in a row. The odds just don't add up. I would like to see 1 up and 1 down for MM. Not the 2 up or down as it is now. You rarely get 12 players that play as a team. You will always have a few that play for themselves and not for the team. I also find that a lot of players don't use the mini map which is extremely important. Hope that the situation with MM improves.

MM fails on several points.

1. Matches teams that are sometimes 50% WR vs 40% WR 

2. Match tier should be +1 OR -1, not both. T8 with T10 should NEVER happen

3. General ship type mm. Sometimes one team has 5 radars and the other maybe 1. Or one team has mostly CLs vs CBs. And the worst offender 3 torp boats vs 3 gunboats with terrible concealment.

The algorithm takes into account anything BUT experience or statistics so its not the Matchmaker's fault that usually teams are inbalanced. The solution would be to expand the "Matchmaker for Newcomers" so its active in all tiers based on a fixed amount of required battles depending on the tier. I guess this is not viable if they want to not have people waiting for more than a few seconds for a game to start BUT this is the main problem of the entire game's matchmaking.

Any sane human would not call that Matchmaking cause it doesnt use anything useful to match players that actually "matches" them correctly. You cant possibly consider that the definition of a "match" is putting same tier ships against each other, wow this must be the most absurd execution of "matchmaking" ever.

You wanna match players against them you match them based on EXPERIENCE, NUMBER OF BATTLES and maybe statistics, its how MATCH MAKING WORKS IN THIS UNIVERSE. Then if you have the luxury you can try to match the ship's tier or type. Come forward WG and say that you CANT do it cause joining a battle will take too long, this is understandable but dont try to pass this absurdity as Match Making...seriously its human adults you have as customers not 5 year old kids.

The ship matchmaking is fine. What really pisses me off is how unbalanced the skill in the teams are. I used to run MM monitor and it's unbelievable how often you get a team of decent players against new/bad players. And it's extremely frustrating when you are in the bad team trying to make things work and you see your top tier BB chasing a DD in the map border.

 

If you want to touch the MM, please start having a look the skill base by PR/WR and make it it even on both sides. If there are 2 unicum players on the queue, put them into opposite teams and it will be more enjoyable to everybody.

T8 with T10 is ridiculous when they match T8 DD's  along with T10 Battleships & Cruisers - the T8 DD's are out of the game almost immediately.

 

Its the same with T8 Cruisers against T10 Battleships - one hit from a T10 Battleship annihilates a T8 Cruiser

 

Should be +1/-1 - imo

T6-T8 difference is a lot bigger then T8-T10.

Exactly, this is SHIP matchmaking not PLAYER matchmaking...its just ABSURD....who needs ship matchmaking after all...its totally absurd.

Though I would not rate the WoWs matchmaking as bad it still has its glitches.

 

* Distribution of radar ships in between teams (and no, I am not talking about a Minotaur running radar instead of smoke)

* Distribution of specialised ship types in the different map modes, usually DDs. There is a huge difference if your side has Khabarovsk and Haragumo or Grozovoi and Shimakaze in a standard battle versus a domination battle.

Yes, sometimes. That is what random means.

I suggest you improve the MM for newcomers. Maybe extend the newbie protection to 120 matches.

I also think a second stage of newbie protection up to 300 games would be a good idea to allow an easier introduction into the game. That second stage could also end at Tier IV or maybe at Tier V.

A constant influx of new players is important for the health of the game and I think you should make life easier for them.

IMO player statistics should matter in matchamking, if you would more or less be matched against players of your own skill, the games would be more enjoyable, less snowballing (which you can get like 5 times in a row = not fun) as well as its easyer to improve your own skill if you play against same lvl players. As your winrate increases, so would your MMR rating and then you get matched with better players, the fact that the MM system only looks at ship types/tiers seems utterly stupid to me

+2 matchmaking DOES NOT WORK.

 

It is garbage when you are bottom tier.

But people say, "at least you can still do damage".

How can I do damage when I am out ranged and out gunned?

 

I find it is at its worse when I play a tier 5 ship.

If I get into a tier 7 battle, 9 times out of 10, I have NO CHANCE.

 

+2 matchmaking in both WoWS and WoT is totally unfair.

But Wargaming refuse to try out +1 matchmaking in any of their games.

I wouldn't mind waiting in the queue a little longer, to get a +1 -1 game.

We are not all 59% win rate players like you pal.

Well, to be honest, most us also have more battles than forum posts, not the other way around. So that's that.

The pairings with more than one level only generate problems for the lowest level, if you are in levels from 5 to 8, most battles are tedium, because you have to dodge what is raining you without knowing where you are from. It arrives, you are with lower defenses, longer reload times, less power, precision and range, all this is not taken into account when it comes to pounding.
There only has to be a level of difference as they do with the newbies and when they are levels 10, none lower than them.

If something does not work, it does not work at all. Apparantly you are finding matches.

And YOU asked how to do damage when bottom Tier. I just showed you.

And it is even easier when you stay on Tier V and VI.

The only thing you actually need to work on (forget the Smolenks and other HE spammers, the Russian paper and highly dubious atributes, the absence of real ships, the Puerto Rico, the CVs and how they take most of the fun of the game, the submarines, etc etc). It is an engaging game, with historical interest put in it, but the overall experience is becoming unsustainable. Matchmaking can fix it, if done right. Melting teams won't make me buy better ships (guess that is where you are going at). Balanced teams with good battles make me wanna buy better ships to get ahead. Thanks for listening.

The matchmaker is garbage.

As long as it is +2 it will always be garbage.

That's my opinion, and I couldn't give a rats arse what you think.
