Has anybody played low tier DDs lately?

No point these days as you will often run into 2 cvs a game and the way as is will put people off playing them.

I totally agree, not a way to gain new players or keep them, they soon work out that to progress in this game requires hard cash, people just do not want to do that, I have had my fun in this game but am now at that junction where on this account anyway, I have no further interest in grinding anything, reached the end of the line so to speak and at the end of the line there are only a few good ships.

Also got to tier ten on my alt, just not as many, four in fact, one sold, another maybe going that way.

Best CV is the Hosho at tier 4 and the best DD I think is the Shenyang, even then I still suck in the DD's but at least it is more fun, ever so slightly:cap_like:

What exactly IS low tier? I am reading a lot of "T5" stuff here, which is - mathematically - alongside T6 rather "mid tier". I would consider T1 - T3 to be low tier, with T4 being kind of a transitional tier from low to mid.

Well given DDs start at III, CVs at IV, think this applies to everything up to VI... especially since VI can and frequently does feature double CV.

DD start at T2, mate :Smile_Default: Tachibana, Umikaze, V-25, Smith... alle the fun jollyboats.

Played the EU-DD line recently,  up to T 8. T2-4 I Think is hard, especially when there are CVs around. Fo a lousy DD-player like me, its not that fun. I just go in there trying to get in torps range without being killed. Sometimes it works but far from allways. :-/ From T 5, its much better. Having a lot of fun with the "Visby". T7 "Skåne" is fantastic. But thats another story.

I'm with you on that, but for most people it seems "low tier" is everything below T10 ^^

don't have Klas horn. And I managed 78% wr in Västerås with blue/purple stats. Skåne only 60% wr and purple dmg and it feels a bit weak.

Yeah, my stats are a bit less braggishable... nonetheless you seem to have not understood what I wanted to say:

it's all nice and cool to have a T5 DD club some T4 CVs. Like, today I managed to shoot down 26 planes from a poor little T6 Ranger that seemed very eager to sink my (T7) Skane. And I did survive those attacks - yay - and managed to get some citadel hits on that Ranger - yay - before it got sunk by some allied torpedoes...

But that doesn't mean f*ck about how this game feels like real new players in real low tier ships. Hell, even I feel quite f*cked often when a CV with a bit skill - or luck - decides to waste his time sending wave after wave of rocketplanes after me to widdle me down over time. Sometimes I survive, sometimes I don't, but it's never fun and engaging gameplay.

So now I try to think how this would feel for a new player... and I guess they probably will sink "wow, what a sh*t class these DDs are.. let's try something else... big bad ships with AA and many HP so they don't get sinkered so fast... lets try BBs next..." and, Bingo, a new BaBBy is born... Or the player drops the game completely... which I would prefer... ^^

So, please get yourself a T4 DD - like the Klas Horn - and try to repeat your deeds of bravery against CVs with that ship. Then you come back and brag about it...

Umikaze plays best on ~T4, though. :Smile_Default:

Yes, since I randomly determine what ship I play, sometimes, I play a low tier DD. It is fun to play a low tier ship since there aren't a lot of OP premium ships sold there (WG markets to the high tier crowd, lol).

Oh i'm with you on that. But that isn't exactly new?

Reworked CVs and sealclubber Hosho has been like that since 0.8.0.

If anything low tier BBs have it worse than DDs for players with a bit of skill.

At least DDs can hide from the skypolice!

Couldnt be further away from the truth. Implying, that farming fire damage actually has an impact on the game. Which takes like minutes to achieve, unless the BB disengages then it was worth nothing. Meanwhile, BBs can blap cruisers with one salvo. If you get only overpens, then its desync and you need to take more lead.

Naturally, with this desync problem around, stationary BBs can easily get farmed, while moving Cruisers are harder to hit as you have to take the desync into account.

or... the shells simply don't hit.

I don't know how 6 shells from 8 can miss a broadside target 4 Km away.

then you go into a 30 sec reload. neat!

short range accuracy for BB needs a buff.

I've had the opposite experience, there's been less lolcarriers around T5 than there was before. There's always one but haven't seen four in a while.

After yesterday, dont tell me about it :cap_fainting:

Massa vs Nelson at ~7km, first salvo out of 9: 1 pen 1 BOUNCE (how is that even possible?!)

2nd salvo: 2 overpen, 1 pen, 1 shatter.

I died and ragequit the game immediately.

And earlier in the game, i shot an angled Fubuki at 6 km for like 7k with AP :cap_wander: Ofc BBs can hit 6 shells on a bow on DD, but fail to hit a BB with a citadel that has the size of several DDs...

And actually, better dispersion for BBs in closerange engagements is something id be in favour of anyway. The problem with closerange battles is, if your guns derp you are basicly dead. So why take the risk? Longrange, nothing will happen...

Battle dynamics sometimes bring short range engagements... forced or deliberate.

If in the late game when I know I can surprise a relatively isolated enemy cruiser that is broadside and has its guns turned the other way by popping out from behind an island, I will do it... so I unload 8 shells into the broadside cruiser that is 4 Km away and do 1060 damage or something with my well-aimed salvo. This shouldn't be possible in my opinion.

Since games began to throw in 2 and sometimes 3 CV's per side I am afraid my lower tier DD's sit idle... I start from Tier 7 now....

@MrConway allowing up the 3 CV's per side in lower tier games is really going to keep the interest of new players isn't it... I mean if you're continually being dumped on by CV's where's the fun in that?

Potentially 9 players of a team being :etc_swear: on and if this happens game on game.... They're not going to uninstall the game are they?

We literally just implemented a change that removed the possibility of having three CVs in a game and at the same time reduced the amount of of battles with 2 CVs: https://worldofwarships.eu/en/news/game-updates/update-093-europen-destroyers-part-2/#matchmaking-improvements

So maybe its time to take those ships out again, especially the Europeans are a boatload of fun!

I agree, but more importantly new and upcoming players who want competitive game play may just stay with WG...
