Unsporting conduct!

I've reported two players in as many days for unsporting conduct. Gearing just went to the corner and stayed there and the other a BB just hugged the bottom of the map.

Has anyone else noticed this sort of behavior increasing?

I'm not really surprised about BBs or cruisers hugging the map borders but I had a game yesterday where the only DD on our team, which is coincidentally a gearing, spent the whole game sailing around the edge of the top border. Literally looping round and round the edge of the border doing literally nothing. It was basically him griefing the entire team by refusing to play at all.

Makes me wish for more CV games so that at least even with a potato cv player I get some  indirect spotting.

Amongst forumites, I suspect the answer may well be 'everyone'!

It's the lockdown - the game is suddenly overrun with folk who probably wouldn't normally be playing, so it's the weekend/summer holidays every day of the week for the moment.

Whilst it's exasperating (even for someone as tuberous as I am), on the up-side, some of them may stick around and git gud (or at least less hopeless) and/or stick around and spend money on the game; both outcomes are good as they should improve the health of the game in the longer term. In the meantime, we have to just resist the urge to excessively torp such people when they're on our own side....!

FWIW WOT is similarly afflicted...

Players that have been wronged (In their mind or perhaps in reality) in previous games sometimes exhibit this passive aggressive behavior.

Oh yea, I have conducted very unsportingly the previous days, ramming DDs in spectator mode out of their hideouts into the open. Suddenly, after 5 min of inactivity, smoke rises from their exhausts. It's striking how they come to life just as they are confronted with a bit of team damage, after they ignore the requests for support over minutes. If WoWs would allow mild electro shocks I think the results would be even better.

Unsporting behaviour is a condition permeating through a large portion of this playerbase, reporting it for me feels like the biggest waste of time.

I reported and black-listed several players for playing like :etc_swear: braindead :etc_swear: spineless :etc_swear: island camping :etc_swear::etc_swear::etc_swear:.

And yes, it is increasing cause due to the Corona lockdown, every braindead :etc_swear: piece of :etc_swear::etc_swear::etc_swear::etc_swear: has now the time to ruin games by being useless all game.

If they decide to play safe and camp a position they can't get hit and can't shoot back, either they should play coop or not play at all.

Im guessing that was the case. But that doesnt excuse his behaviour though. Personally if i feel crappy or too angry after a game il just stop playing and go do something else. No point affecting others with my negativity.

It sounds a familiar situation. Just had a Normandie sit behind an island for most of the game, contributing nothing. And he was a member of a clan, too.

Yeah I see a lot of toxic behaviour. GZ not giving fighter cover until you are long dead, puts the fighter above your wreck and says "See, I gave you cover"... Kleber Reversed behind BBs instead of pressing the W key and was shelling and island (no cv in game) , BBs pushing you from your smoke on purpose saying 'stop camping in smoke"....

Thats pathetic actually (you are right ofc) I vent by playing a CV, or Smolensk or something equally nasty, nothing improves your mood after getting your day ruined like ruining someone else s day in return... :cap_haloween:

Whilst it's exasperating (even for someone as tuberous as I am), on the up-side, some of them may stick around - PLS NO! NO, NO...NOOOO!

and git gud (or at least less hopeless) - that's the most Sci-Fi-esque Sci-Fi thing i've ever read. Beyond Asimov levels. in fact, even beyond WGs RU Navy sikrit plans Fantasys.

If one out of 100000 gits gud, we'd be truly lucky. I also believe, before we think about all the new players getting gud, we might send a few (million) prayers about havfing the old bad players getting a tiny bit gud. But even that's a fantasy.

and/or stick around and spend money on the game; - they do not need to start the client for that. in fact, they don't even need to DL the client for that. Create account, go premium shop, use credit card. Absolutely no reason WHATSOEVER(!!!) to launch the game. :Smile_medal:

both outcomes are good as they should improve the health of the game in the longer term. - No, it wouldn't. While having more players is good indeed, it's the fact that they don't want to stay and learn.

They want the high tiers and they want them now. Because the game of today is the uninstalled game of tomorrow. Besides, the more $hit players reach the higher tiers, the less good players want to play (or may even leave for good).

In the meantime, we have to just resist the urge to excessively torp such people when they're on our own side....! - Too late, i got pink 3 times because of that in the last 4 days.

FWIW WOT is similarly afflicted... - i play WoT daily, and i can safely say, that in my games, i have NOT witnessed this kind of idiocy. Not even remotely.  WoWS is the place where the creme de la $hit of the dumbest players is currently doing jack all game. WoT is so much more relaxing and fun (even on a defeat).

This behaviour has been happening for a long time.

I think about six months ago a clan mate and I were in a battle (DDs and a cruiser) and a BB division from another clan capped one base (Tears of the Desert) and refused to move away from behind the large islands despite requests for them to help the team.   They were flanked and torped to death and while this was happening they were asking for support.  Needless to say they received little sympathy.

I think we have all seen plenty of this kind of behaviour during our time playing this game but I cannot say I have seen a specific increase in toxic behaviour.

Just a general decline in overall team quality which isn't surprising, with a lot of bored people who are probably either returning players or those we would usually call "weekend warriors".

I did hear that there was a particular type of bot that sails around at the back and then just goes into a corner whenever it's spotted; actually saw 'someone' play that way in a game before hearing about it, so it made total sense to find out.

Then again, I also heard that there's a place in a man's head where, if you shoot it, it explodes. So... :Smile_hiding:

well i have no idea why i was reported for unsporting conduct yes i was in a destroyer yes i scouted round the edge to hunt down the carrier but on route i engaged 2 other destroyers and heavily damaged them engaged and destroyed a battle ship and then finally engaged and destroyed the carrier with the help of a cruiser that had gone the other way round, so i was an active participant but still got reported befuddled

I wouldn't put too much thought into it.

Every player should try and be critical to his own play and that is independent of any reports.

Reports are irrelevant in every possible way.

Think of it in a conditional way:

- If you are reporting a bad player, he has zero karma anyway. He regularly gets reported, his karma will never rise. It will stay around zero for most of the time and not bother him at all, even less so since there is no benefit to it. Even if he is aware of being reported, he will ignore it for that reason and because it insults his vanity. He will reject your criticism, which is what got him into being a bad player in the first place. So you won't change him. Even if you did, chances are 50% you meet him on the opposite team next time. What is your incentive to improve his play? None.

- If you are reporting a good player, he might realize the drop in karma and see the criticism. But then again he usually is aware of his mistakes. Does he need the varying expertise of a random player to improve his play? The random player with a probability of 80-95% is playing worse than the reported player, with a probability of 2/3 he is so much worse, he doesn't even know what he is talking about. So considering his criticism, implementing it into ones play, is likely going to make a good player a worse player. It's only consequential that he ignores the report. It also again is irrelevant, as the good players get way more compliments than reports. So in the long run that number is going up anyway, confirming the player in his approach to the game. Your single report is not going to change that perception in any way. And again, your chance is 50% to meet him on the opposite team in the future. What is your incentive trying to improve your possible opponent?

So how ever you put it, it's irrelevant, it's not going to have any consequences apart from you having released a bit of frustration. That again you can do much more effective utterly cursing about your less gifted team mates in voice chat with your division mates, as a moderator, who shall remain nameless, has demonstrated in one of my favorite videos.

Or let's put it another way:

I know for a fact that some of the most notorious players of this community, regularly showing unsportive conduct, have been around for many years, largely unchallenged by WG-support. These people must have gotten thousands of reports and - I imagine - dozens of tickets over the years. The sheer number of reports and tickets gives a comprehensive picture of their inability or unwillingness to comply and yet they are not banned or sanctioned to an extend that would force them into compliance.

So, to put it bluntly, the report system as well as their big brother, the ticket, have failed.

The simple truth is that even if the user is botting WG doesn't actually care.

Yes since hunting down the carrier while beeing out of the way the whole match is a great and usefull contribution to the match.

Do not get me wrong, if you have indeed taken the cap on the way broke the side of the enemy and then catch the carrier its a nice bonus but other than that hunting for a carrier out on the flank usually just gets you a lot of rockets to the face :pepega:

No at this point i barely touch random battles on weekends :)

I rather play clanbattles or just avoid the game all together ;D

You would be surprised how many of this are actual players.

They are just muppets, who deliberately destroy the game for everyone .. and WG lets them.
