Locking guns in neutral postion

Given that there are quite a few ships on which the turret rotation time is measured in fractions of eternity, planning ahead where to point your guns is an important skill. However, sometimes you do not know if the next target will come from port or starboard. In these cases it would be best to have the guns locked into their neutral position (like they are right at the start of the battle), so they never have much more than half of their arc to turn, whatever direction the next enemy may come from. Otherwise, if something happens to turn up at the wrong side, you could be looking at a 60 second wait to bring all guns on target. Unfortunately, the game does not seem to allow for this.

 

There is the CTRL+X command that will point the guns to a fixed bearing. But this will still try to point all guns at the same bearing, which could be the wrong one, while in the neutral position some guns will point backwards and others forwards. So a separate command is needed for that. It seems this would be a relatively simple feature to implement and it would make life, especially for BB captains, a little easier.

This!

The problem is that we would have to manually select which turret(s) to traverse, and then give the command. I was thinking about how nice it would be to have a toggle key to pre-aim the turrets that aren't able to aim where your reticle is at any given time (the turrets that are shown in orange on screen). The toggle could be left/neutral/right/manual with information on-screen what the current setting is.



By the way, I think this thread should be in the 0.3.1 feedback forum...

Well honestly I would love 3 functions:

 

Train all turrets in to neutral position.

Train all turrets out to 90° starboard

Train all turrets out to 90° port.
