As a German I just can't fathom a life without work, you know. I have to ask. In any case, stay safe. And the matches are truly horrible right now, but what else can you do. ;)
RenamedUser_92906789 Players 5,828 posts Report post #7 Posted March 24, 2020 Some of the countries are very late .... In Slovenia schools are out for more than 10 days, we have over a week of quarantine already. Everything is closed except stores, pharmacy and postal services.... we are forbidden to socialize in any way. I hope the rest of EU takes this very seriously .... because they do not want to follow Italy's path.

Yeah, I am working in IT, so that's sorted at least. We got direct access to our sales numbers, though, and let's just say people aren't especially eager to spend their money in the online printing sector, at least in B2B. Turnover is pretty much halved since Monday last week, but I think we will make it. We all will, I am positive. :)

So yeah lots of people not working atm. In case of restaurants that have a delivery - they work only with that. That's why there's much more people playing games. 2 days ago there was over 30k on the server, something happens only after patch release not in the mid of it with no CB.

Alright, pretty much like in Germany then. For a second I thought that even businesses where home office work is an option, or who aren't open to the public had to shut down, too. That would have been a lot more severe.
[ARRSE] cracktrackflak Weekend Tester 947 posts Report post #12 Posted March 24, 2020 I wonder how long the internet will hold up? I notice that its already virtually impossible to contact customer help in my gas, electricity, mobile phone, bank and internet companies. Even in good times, its taken weeks to fix some network issues (I'm on Virgin media), so i can foresee outages cascading and remaining unresolved for months now. The great backbones (X-IX) have enough capacity to handle an increase in traffic by the factor 100 or more, so the Internet itself ist not at risk of being overloaded. The downtimes and low bandwidth some people experience, are caused by weak local relays or even bad home connections (eg shared access lines in houses with multiple families). Basically, if your country invested in digital infrastructure recently, you are on the safe side. If it did not, like mine, you might experience some ... difficulties. With cellphone access, it's down to the individual carrier, if they have their own infrastructure or not, or how much they invest in renting resources/bandwidth etc.

Or is this a total lockdown of all businesses aswell? A lot will depend on how ad where you work. I work in IT as a contractor in Ireland. A few weeks ago I asked to be able to work from home (at some stage) with the likelyhood that if I did not have that I would not be working. On Monday last week the ones left in the office, including myself, were told to go home at noon and not return for a while. I've been able to work remotely since last Friday. I guess I am lucky in that I can continue to work I feel for those who may be losing income.
