I play and stream from  Both EU and NA  regularly. .   Help Please  :Smile_unsure: :fish_nerv:

As @Monalie said, yes you can do it.

You have to go to "Add Account

And then choose the different region of your choice when you log in

I hope that you will find this helpful.

You only need the launcher for game updates, you can launch the game directly with a link to the wows.exe.

Hadn't sufficiently realised that. Thanks for the tip!

I have no problems with WGC but it is important to let people specify the folder to which the game installs. Many people have relatively small but fast C drives for the OS and more space on old school hard drives.. Wows doesn't need to be on the fast drive, so don't install it there without giving people a choice. Thanks!

Which points?

Do you really want me to look up a two year old post of mine? For questions that I will most likely still not recieve answers to?

(your forum search is failing miserably for posts that old)

Found it with google.

Ok @MrConway You said in the comments on the news article that the new launcher has new usefull features for updates.

I have a few questions for you that will not fit into those comments. I'd like to have detailed answers instead of marketing talk. If need be drag the responsible person here to reply.

From a users perspective:

  • What are those supposedly usefull features, if I do not plan on letting the launcher or any associated service run in the background?
  • How are those features superior to the current update procedure, so that I would have an interested in installing the bloatware that comes with it on my system?

For marketing:

  • Why does every single publisher believe that their players want a dedicated "game center" just for their games, even if those players only run a single game?
  • Why do you feel it is necessary to clutter up our data storage with your bits and bytes for software we do not want or need?
  • Does the department behind this decision read the feedback you recieved in regards to the launcher?

As a developer:

Maintaining a single purpose updater isn't hard or time consuming, unless you want to change the update process completly. All it needs to do is check the version number of the software, download the newest one and apply it to the installation folder (replacing older files, removing files listed in the update manifest, adding new files). It isn't exactly rocket science that makes an updater work. So I'm not buying the excuse that it is a resource hog in Wargamings development. I am willing to hear a technical explanation that might support those repeated statements. Are you willing to provide it?

  • What exactly does the WGC do on my system?
    • What ports are used?
    • Can the installation directory be changed?
    • Is a service running once I install the WGC?
      • If Yes: What does that service do?
      • If Yes: Will I have to close the service manually after each launch of the WGC?
    • What data is the WGC transfering exactly and how is it anonymized?
  • When will a function to actually close the WGC instead of minimizing it to the tray be implemented? (Users are used to the "X" in the upper right corner means a program stops running. Almost every other software does that. Why does the WGC has to be an exception?)
  • Is the ability for an automatic closing of the WGC after the update process is finished planned?
  • What browser is used in the WGC web application?
    • How often are security features / updates, provided by the creator, implemented into that browser?

If I get answers to those questions, depending on the answers, there is a very slim chance I might use it.

Some of that is answered by now. Most of it is still unanswered (I highlighted those).

I want to add some more:

One launcher on one computer isn't much of an ecological problem. Several launchers on millions of PCs is a lot of wasted energy and quite a bit of CO2 produced just for advertisment.

Do you agree or not?

Today we have launchers from Steam, Bethesta, Ubisoft, EA, Paradox, Wargaming, GoG, and many many more. Each one claiming to only need minimal ressources. Most of them necessary to launch the repective games. Most of them setting themself up for autostart on system boot. Accumulating quite a bit of ressources necessary to run them.

Is that something you take into consideration? If yes: How?

Not every user knows how to tune their PCs properly. Most actually don't know it at all. They just run with the default setting and let the launchers run all the time. After a while they purchase a new PC because the old one is supposedly performing badly, despite it still having plenty of power, or they call someone like me to optimize it for them.

You can find the reply of @MrConway here:

https://forum.worldofwarships.eu/topic/104238-au-revoir-you-old-standalone-launcher-the-wargaming-game-center-will-be-forced-upon-us-all-in-the-near-future/?do=findComment&comment=2574954

The first part is false. The old launcher did provide functionality for integrity checks and download speed control.

We could make a bet:

If I retrieve the old post of mine (already done), and you are unable to provide the missing answers, what will you offer?

My offer is to give the WGC a try if you can provide them. Otherwise I will stay true to my word of two years ago.

Acceptable?

4 hours ago, Sehales said:

We added a "minimize to try on game launch"-feature.

That's not even remotly the same. That's just hiding the WGC that you wouldn't see while you play anyway. Minimized to tray still means 100 % active.

Not addressed in this reply but part of my post and the quote you used: A social media free version or one with disabled browser.

4 hours ago, Sehales said:

Less than over 90% of the active players have already switched to the WGC.

Is that a total number, or just those who switched and were active back then while and still active now?

If it is a total number that it would mean that still 10 % of your players don't like the WGC. Considering your millions of active accounts, that's hundreds of thousends of players. By no means a small number.

4 hours ago, Sehales said:

The WGC is pretty lightweight

How lightweight? I mean... that's pretty much what all publishers say about their launchers. Do you know how many publishers want you to install their own game center by now and have it running all the time? This totals up to quite a lot of porcessing and memory usuage. Which means quite a lot of wasted energy. In the days of "the great Greta" one might want to look for solutions that use even less energy.

A game center without social media functions, without a browser, and without all the other stuff not entirely necessary to keep the games you installed up to date, would be even less lightweight. Even if it is only an option you need to activate, by that handing the choice to the user. You don't need an advertisment platform on every PC your game runs on.

i remember an article when wgc is first released, it says; in game rewards will be given to players who switched to wgc early.

probably i am one of the first small percent switchers, so what will be the rewards for players like us?

my computer have been your loyal test platform for long time :Smile_sceptic:

btw; wgc not cause problems for my very out dated pc. but still i dont like it.

I'm a non-steam Linux user and I had to switch back to the old Launcher a couple of updates ago because the WGC would refuse to even download the game through Proton. Every update I basically have to install the game from scratch. It's a pain since it takes an hour but I don't mind it as long as I have a tool, any tool, to do it.

If I understand this news properly I'll soon be forced back to use the WGC. I don't mind but if it still doesn't work, or if one day it stops working again, my only backup plan will be to boot back to Windows. :cap_fainting:

I know my setup is not officially supported by WG so that's just the way it is but this news definitely doesn't feel me with joy.

+1 on the drive choice, it's 2020. However, I would highly recommend installing the game on a SSD if you have the space for it. It loads into battle much faster, you never are late and you can even salvage a game when it kicks you from the server.

We made a lot of changes, added improvements and bug fixes and several new features. Less than over 90% of the active players have already switched to the WGC.

And while we are at questioning those numbers: Including or excluding all the World of Tanks players you forced to use it?

Anyway, for me it is the same as with World of Tanks: I rather quit the game than getting that oh so necessary WGC forced down my throat.
If there were the option to use the Wargaming account with the Steam client I might have stayed, but as this option is not intended  by Wargaming, that's the end. There used to be a workaround to make it playable despite this, but apparently this has been "fixed" so now it's either forced WGC or a completely new account at Steam.
Or neither, in my case.

Yours sincerely,

Easha

Well I have tried the WGC and I disliked it .. I can't see any real technical reason for not having the stand alone launcher which everyone loves to use at the moment .. Let me warn you that when EA made this step with Origin they lost a lot of gamers - including me. IF I need a unified launcher I would use steam to run warships - so you have allready given me the options I want or need. WGC will be in direct violation with Discord and Steam and this is simply stupid.

Sorry I can't support WGC when we have an excellent stand alone launcher that everyone love.

Just let us keep the damn stand alone launcher ...

I don't want that WGC because I don't need it.

- I don't play any other WG games but WoWs.

- I don't download updates while I play,  because I can't play if the game isn't up to date anyway, lol.

- I can't play online while I'am downloading huge files.

- I hate Gamecenters.

- I hate useless background programs that clog up my tray.

- I hate being advertised to.

- You don't need an advertising platform on my computer.

- You don't need an advertising platform, period.

- You already waste enough resources for your stupid Port UI that will never get fixed.

- Everything you do makes things only worse.

That doesn't make any sense.

In general I have no issues with WGC. I was long using Launcher or directly via exe. However since WG started improving everything, they screwed Ultra audio version which stopped working (couldn't select Ultra in Settings if started game via launcher or exe - did numerous clean-installs). So finally switched. There is only one annoyance which you should solve ASAP.

Game should be able to launch just with the click on shortcut or right click on tray icon, select WoWs and game starts. Why the hell you have to bring WGC window to the forefront is beyond my capacity to comprehend. WGC is like early W10 versions which just flashed ads everywhere.

I don't like any game managers, Steam or Origin or WGC.  S&O are basically only to run Mass Effect, that's their only job. And even abominable Origin doesn't require game manager window open to start games. Get it sorted or else :fish_viking: :D

Just removed this game from my PC and not installing it again.

Updated the game yesterday and now getting error, game won't run. Tired of the constant problems with this game, I'm done with it now.

Unfortunately the amount of time that we need to support both the launcher and the game center is just not worth it, especially since the WGC does everything we need it to do.

Feel free to run the game center only once per update and use the .exe to start the game going forward.

I also refuse to install additional launchers normally - hate the things, but the WGC is a very harmless one and does what it needs to without causing any issues. And if you belong to the people who do things like play public test or play on other servers, it is really very useful.

Hi Captain!

as previously mentioned in this discussion you can set manually the destination of the installation by using the WGC installer provided at this link  http://redirect.wargaming.net/WGC/Wargaming_Game_Center_Install_EU.exe

For the less experienced, here you can find a useful guide that explains how to do it https://eu.wargaming.net/support/en/products/wgc/article/10301/#section_0

i'm something like refugee from WoT project.

the reason i abandoned my hangar with hundreds of tanks (i donated A LOT, purchased or grinded almost everything from 2011),

and moved to totally new game with empty port was WGC.

not WGC itself actually, but the way wg FORCED me to use it.

I have no problem with you doing so. Fine. Good.

I would just like to balance this with my experience.

I've been runing WoWs and WGC on the same computer for the last four and a half years. The only problems have been server-related, something that needed a hotfix and once when I used some mods. That's it. No problems with my computer running it at all.

It's strange when  I run it without problems for years but others seem to have problems all the time. It's the same game isn't it?

Same for me and as with you, my only problems were either when my connection went crazy or when the problems were "global", with WG servers going crazy or hotfixes. I didn't even had any problems with mods (maybe because i don't use those that might have problems).

My only problem with this "news article" was that i was confused about the "launcher" because i didn't know it even existed; i always thought that besides using a link to the .exe file, you could only launch the game via the WGC. When i first started playing in fact, i downloaded the installer, which downloaded the WGC, from which i downloaded WoWS.
