Playing devils advocate here.

IF WG introduce these damn submarines into the game, how about a line of Sub hunting Frigates ??

Just a thought.

Because CVs need more free kills I suppose?

If all ships had AA like a Black Swan then CVs would be weeping. Six DP 4 inch guns, a quad pom-pom and 12 x 20 mm Oerlikons on a Tier I. More of that sort of thing, please.

Nono. What we need is player controlled E-boats. :Smile_trollface:

No no, what we need are player controlled characters armed with magnetic mines and riding jet skis :Smile_trollface:

There were frigates in that time period? I thought there were only sailing frigates before and modern frigates later.

Guess they had DDs for sub hunting or sub-chaser boats.

Yeah you had torp boats, corvettes and frigates plus heavy dd’s.

Just none of them are in game yet (think of kamchatka when you think of Torpboats xD)

You do realize that this is actually less AA than on your typical DD, right?

A ship intended for convoy escort, larger than a corvette and up to roughly small destroyer size, generally made to merchant marine rather than true naval construction standards to speed up production.

Googled a list of frigates during snd World War and the list is full of US and RN ships. No german or IJN, guess that's why I never noticed this ship type :D

The ships I checked in the list are actually called destroyer escort. Guess they just didn't used that term

I'm talking about the AA packed by the actual Black Swan class, not the nerfed one at Tier I. Based on what the ships actually had, it's more AA than any British Destroyer until Lightning, and overall it's pretty similar to a Tier V/VI Cruiser (London, for example, has one extra 4 inch mount, five fewer 20mm mounts, and two octuple pom-poms as opposed to one quad). Hell, Cossack would love an AA outfit like that, and that ship is seven tiers higher.

Potato, tomato. The USN called them Destroyer Escorts (DEs), RN called them Frigates :)

You can blame the Brits for that. We had Destroyers (torpedo ships, for work with the fleet), Sloops (convoy escorts and colonial duties, small, built to Naval dockyard standards), Corvettes (convoy escort ships descended from trawlers and other extreme weather civilian ships, could be built anywhere), Escort Destroyers (faster than Sloops/Corvettes, better sea boats than high speed destroyers, could be built in civilian yards) and Frigates (bigger than a Corvette, smaller than a Destroyer, specialist anti-sub, convoy escort ship).

In theory it would be great to add a greater diversity of escort ships such as Frigates or Destroyer Escorts, possibly even Corvettes.

However considering how the game works in regards to CVs and AA they would just be easy kills for the CV players and we would get even more of the same tiresome debates.

So lovely idea but probably not worth investing in considering how things are.

I am well aware. T5-6 cruiser AA is practically nonexistent with few exceptions, London definitely NOT being one of them. I don't see where you're going with this quite frankly.

I think this is a ship class best used as AI assets in operations. Like the liberty ships and the Bogue.

They don't really scale up the general PvP gameplay. They'd have to be in mid tiers or higher, to not be anachronistic. And then they'd be cannon fodder due to combination of low HP, slow speed, and negligible armour.

You could of course throw one in the protected environment of T1.

A small craft "carrier" could be a fun class to play. Being able to spawn and control smaller ships of different types using some sort of support ship.

The problem is that there weren't a huge number of different ships able to fit this role for each nation. You could probably find a few awkward ships here and there that could be used for this role even though they weren't actually support ships.

Since WG went back on the "no submarines" promise for the sake of extra content, there is a possibility that something like this could get added at some point down the line when sources for current ship classes runs dry.

WG's imagination seems to be the main source now for higher tier ships, that's limitless :etc_hide_turtle:

Frigates could make an appearance in a special anti-submarine or convoy protection mode/operation, but in randoms they'd be farmed for the limited amount of hit points that they could offer.

I, for one, would like to see this mode/operation, alongside T4 style carriers with anti-submarine role. Stressing that this would be separate from the current randoms.

I think that is a good idea for a new range of Scenario games. @MrConway @Crysantos
