Uncommon builds/ships you like

I am interested to have opinions on ships/builds that are in your opinion are overlooked despite being enjoyable - or on alternative playstyle for ships that are known for very specific role.

Now I highlighted enjoyable as I'm not interested in the meta and min-maxing. I don't like blatantly OP or jack of all trades ships - therefore I'm not interested in most Ruski BBs, or ships like Des Moines. I am interested in things that are uncommon, but enjoyable for you.

A ship or build that on paper is inefficient, but fits your playstyle. Also, isn't it fun to surprise the opponents with doing something unexpected?

For example, I'm running a secondary build Nagato and Yamato, it is entertaining and helps a lot in late matches (My Yamato damage record is 244k, and of that about 40k came from secondaries/fires), and I love the Huanghe just because it is a de-facto DD that occupies a cruiser slot. For some reason, I also like Prinz Eitel Friedrich, to me it is a good battlecruiser with decent AA, secondaries, agility.

Full Secondaries in all KM BBs, even though everyone says stealth/tank is better

Imo the dispersion buff for them only helps in sub 11km brawls, where old KM dispersion would still allow the red boat to live, now it is significantly less likely to happen

Also USN BBs (if you ignore RU) are better at the gunnery stealth/tank role

Dunno if there are any builds I run that are particularly unconventional.

I don't take them out nearly as often as I should, but I genuinely enjoy Graf Spee and Prinz Eitel Friedrich, both of which are sort of odd ducks.

Don't know if running Gun Fire Control System Modification 2 instead of Main Battery Mod 3 on Buffalo counts. I ended up in too many situations where I couldn't really contribute against BBs in particular without getting too far ahead of friendlies, so tried swapping for the extra range and it makes her a bit more comfortable. Makes her a bit better at kiting BBs as well, since I get a little bit more reaction time to incoming shells, and with her handling reaction time is definitely nice.

I'm not sure if it counts as that uncommon, but I play the Hindenburg with a maneuverability build engine + rudder instead of rudder + stealth. When your guns should always be firing, stealth is less useful.

I went for the US CL line, but I also chose the extended range despite trying my best to occupy an efficient radar spot on the map.

Well, yeah, total heresy but on almost all ships I'm taking fast rudder shift (all BBs in fact) as I tend to move a lot.

The only exception is the propulsion mod for some island-edge poking cruisers and in general DDs that have already very fast rudder.

Normandie with better rudder instead of damage control system. Screw the fires, torpedobeat to the limit - extremely satisfying when you cap despite enemy CV's best efforts :cap_cool:

I remember not building my Udaloi as a pure gunboat, going for a full stealth build instead, and having a great time with it. Yes, the stealth isn't great, but I found late game I could switch between hybrind and pure gunboat gameplay as needed, and I quite liked it, had good results with it. Mind you, this was pre-CV rework when CV's were a rare sight, otoh this was also before it had a heal, so things have changed. It's still a good boat no matter how you build her, though.

Ah yes, radar Mino. Nothing beats the visible panic once a DD captain spots you only to be counterspotted with a rain of silver coming their way.

I play her the same way although recently either CVs will keep buggers away or they are dead before in my range or there is only one and on the other flank.

I currently respecced my Buffalo to this:

- EL / PT

- AR

- SI

- IFHE/CE/RPF

But havent played with it yet.

Also running Hindenburg with IFHE (which might be a bit more common tho).

Just witnessed 2 divisioned enemy Ognevois charge B cap in Hotspot only to get caught by allied radar Mino: I was in an Akizuki and the slaughter was so massive that it ended before I could turn my guns to help :cap_fainting:

Uneque build, hmm, here's one.

Full secondary spec Yubari, make the enemy fear the lone 120 in the front, bonus points if you get close quarters :Smile_teethhappy:

Great, I've had some memorable battles. Especially when you think you've switched to smoke and only realise when charging towards cap:Smile_izmena:.

I only go out in my Yuyang with radar. Scared off a Des Moines and DD and enjoyed 132k damage

Ah yes I should have also mentioned that too

rudder mod on everything that can use rudder mod And not have decent rudder crap base, where I use prop or DCP mod depending on boat(exception is RN DD, they cannot use prop mod, and DCP mod does nothing, so rudder mod)

agile Yamato for the win

Full secondary build Edinburgh and Wichita. Quite fun when you can get into range. As Bonus Wichitas secondaries are more accurate by default already.

all good and fun until a storm comes in, at that point: smolensk get deleted, monquerror too, kleber loses great part of his advantage. We had the same build in the last season, in this one, if you find someone capable of thinking and breathing at the same time and you get a cyclone ( 40% of the time) you get tyrannosaurus reck
