CVs don't need to have a cover! They don't get shot at 99% of game and they certainly don't need island to hide near spawn.

It is not the maps fault when you ignore the caps for too long.

Your team was too passive.

Most teams win with a ship advantage.

 

These teams are usually able to take caps undisturbed as there are no enemies in range who can interrupt the capture.

When you focus only one side and stay there for most of the match, you might win the ship battle, but leave the points for the remaining caps to your enemy. If you do not move out in time, you end up in an unfortunate defeat, despite the significant ship advantage. But that is not the maps fault.

Is there a way to know the win rate of a team based on its spawn location? 

This is the way to know if it's badly designed, at least in terms of balance.

Nope. The island is not the cause of your defeat. The enemy CV could also be at A1...

To the contrary, the island gave you a chance to win as the enemy CV player did not consider moving and therefore stayed close to your ships. Had your team started movement a bit sooner, you could have got him.

WG has these numbers. One of the reasons for map changes from time to time.

It has nothing to do with map design. You gave all caps to enemy until end of the game. What do you expect???

I had never actually noticed this usually WG do a good job of roughly mirror imagining their maps, I mean there are bad maps (North being an obvious one) but over all they usually are roughly balanced for either side.

 

Still not sure the island was the most deciding factor in this particular battle.

Do you remember how where placed the ships at the beginning? The island at H3 or H1 could given a similar spot for your team, but you CV is far away from that point.
