Update 0.9.1 will continue the British update cycle

The event will consist of directives, new unique commander Andrew Cunningham, and British heavy cruisers which will be leaving early access.

The new commander has three talents:

  • After receiving 2 "Caused flooding" ribbons, ship and squadron maximum speeds are increased by 5%. 
  • After receiving 2 "Destroyed" ribbons, an additional charge is added to all consumables.
  • After receiving the "Witherer" achievement, the reload time of the main battery and torpedo tubes, as well as aircraft restoration time, are reduced by 10%. 

 

All three talents can be activated once per battle.

Andrew Cunningham also has the following improved skills:

  • Jack of All Trades - Reduces reload time of all consumables for the ship and squadrons by 10% instead of the basic 5%;
  • Aircraft Armor - Decreases the continuous damage that aircraft takes from AA defenses by 11,5% instead of the basic 10%.

 

 

Ranked season

On the 26th of February, the 15th Ranked season will begin. Battles will be held on tier X ships, without class restrictions, in the 7 vs. 7 format. Battles will be conducted in the updated "Arms Race" mode.

 

 

Service record

We updated our game's service record system:

  • The order in which game features are unlocked has been changed.
  • Reduced the number of battles needed to reach most stages of the service record.
  • New rewards have been added for unlocking different stages of the service record: Coal, Free Experience, Premium Account Days, Signals, Camouflages, Containers, and upgrades.

 

Beginners will now need to play fewer battles to gain access to the main game features, and the updated rewards will make this progression easier.

Please note: Players who started playing before the release of Update 0.9.1 will receive all-new rewards for already completed stages, minus what was already received in the old version of the service record.

For example, players who have already reached the last stage of their service record before Update 0.9.1 will receive: 15,000 units of coal, 4 days of Premium account, a supercontainer, 10 daily containers (among which 5 are "More Resources" containers), as well as a large amount of upgrades, expendable camouflages, economic, and special signals.

 

Other content

A new map - North Waters - will appear in the game. Players will fight among snow-covered islands and ridges. It is designed for tier VIII-X battles and will be available in two game modes: "Epicenter" and "Domination", with three key areas.

A permanent "Nordic" camouflage for the German tier VIII battleship Odin has been added to the game.

The "Recruiting Station" flag has been added to the game.

The ways of obtaining these items will be announced in future.

Nice for CVs and DDs, but nothing exactly game breaking. At least easy to achieve, but both suffer from crap base speed, so this will not elevate them far.

Good for anything except CVs and the T8- RN DDs. Great on cruisers, T9-10 DDs and T7-8 BBs, absolutely bonkers on T9-10 BBs. Conqueror with another superheal when it can restore 75% pen damage? Seems broken, especially with only 2 kills. Pointless for CV though.

1.5% less damage from dps. An absolute joke.

 

Good on DDs, good on CLs if you got nothing better to put it on, absolutely insane on KGV to Conqueror, pretty much a 5% speed buff to CVs. Ironically, the CV with most benefit (and most need for a buff) is not able to even use this buff. This commander is basically what you want on your Conqueror or Thunderer, an extra consumable on CLs (because what are fires?) and superficially caters to CVs, but actually is an utter joke for them. Especially Indomitable, where it's likely you never will get to experience the benefits.

This is potentially a positive change. But I think this is more a reaction to people who have created accounts before and are  aware there are features they haven't unlocked yet (i.e. re-rolls), rather than aimed at new players who are unaware. Although I'll wait to see what the exact details are, the only material advantage will be having more time to add skill points to those early commanders. The potential negative is gaining access to daily combat mission that (still) clearly require Tier 5+ ships will further encourage beginners to ascend vertically through the tech tree and exit protected matchmaking even earlier than before.

 

I don't think this is part of any plan to organise a coherent new player experience that is fit for purpose. Prove me wrong, WG.

I'm not sure what these skills have to do with the historical and famous Andrew Cunningham. Just a relief we're not getting Beatty! But materially his improved skills are worse than the Dunkirk twins, who at least have improved Expert Marksman. Low effort product, hard pass.

Hasn't this already been done once?

 

And isn't this half the reason that the level of play in randoms has collapsed cause now you only need like a game or 2 in CoOp before you get access to random battles, I remember researching a line to tier 4 in CoOp before being given access to Random battles...

Hmm, so even faster progress into high tier PvP and a historic commander best suited for full HE Conq. I'm not sure that's exacty healthy for the game.

Given that this is a Cruiser event, shouldn't the captain be Henry Harwood? (Harwood was commander of the British cruiser squadron at the Battle of the River Plate, possibly the most famous cruiser action in the history of the RN. During his career he was also captain of both ExeterHawkins and London.)

The service record only unlocks features (like commanders, modules, inventory) and game modes.

 

It's not going to vastly accelerate peoples ability to grind to high tier and participate in ranked. It just increases how fast they unlock basic game features.

It also kept you in CoOp so you learnt the absolute basics of the game, I remember reaching the tier 4 IJN Cruiser before I had access to Random Battles... This would explain the influx of complete [edited] into the game as now you get access buy just playing like 3 CoOp games...

I think that is better to increase the numbers of battles needed for progress, giving more rewards to keep new players interesting. 

Or make a mod that can participate in random battles only players with less than 500-700 games. Give time to new players to get the feeling of the game. I remember my self trying to hit something with Karlsruhe and get hit with a full salvo of a BB 14km away! Is one thing to see the others fail too, and another to see the other players dont miss a salvo. u feel idiot.

give more info in side panels, in the battle, like mods did to help new players (and old players with many ships) understand the parameters of any ship. Nobody will begin playing, reading wiki 1st. I right down in paper the stats of every ship before find Aslain, 2 months after I start. Is idiotic in our time to have to memorize this amount of data needed in this game.

 

This change will make a new player face seal-clubbers earlier and leave the game sooner...

And they keep on nerfing Destroyers... As if 5 radars per game with 10 to 12.5 km range, planes, radio location, hydro on every high tier ship was not making life impossible enough for destroyers, now they add 1.8 km detection range for torpedos on ships... If you hate destroyers in high tiers so much just stop the line at tier 6 or something, or give destroyers a sub battletype.

Just heard that in the ranked season right now cvs with health buffs get invincible planes and you cant do crap to shoot them down - that would show again and again, why cv´s wont fit into the game, especially into ranked. To much power to a class, and in ranked they get the superpower again or what....
