[RONIN] 22cm Beta Tester 6,377 posts 36,662 battles Report post #1 Posted December 16, 2019 Why? 1. Year of the CV CV Reeeework. A big failure for everybody, except for WG for whom it is a succes. 0.8.0. is probably the worst update ever. 2. The famous Research Bureau Pay to win bonuses or some ships are more equal than same ships. We dodged that, but it was very close. I mean it wasnt like WG didnt try really hard. 3. Tier 9 premiums for sale With all the opposition, this became the norm. At least, you can still get them for a long grind of free XP or resources. 4. Puerto Rico part 1 When the grind becomes ungrindable. Unless you have health issues that keep you immobilized in front of the computer. Just break a leg. Or pay for it. 5. Puerto Rico part 2 Because of the anger caused by the ungrindable grind, many players missed the fact that it is the first tier 10 which can be bought for money. Something WG said will never do. 6. Year of the Russian Bias After Khabarovsk was nerfed to the ground, Stalingrad was feeling lonely. So Kremlin and Smolensk were added. Worth mentioning here is a whole line of creme that if it had ever been built, it would have been a creme. Luckily, we missed the subs introduction this year. We need something to spoil the next year too. 54 4

Demanding daily attendance except for 1 day, and if you fail set back players for at least 12.5% of the grind (100/800 points) is NOT grindable. Or user-friendly. 2019 brought us a good thing: the recruiting station... Because getting rewarded with RNG boxes for not playing yourself, what's not to like?!?

[--] Captain_Newman Players 2,147 posts 16,474 battles Report post #12 Posted December 16, 2019 Introducing an 8v8 clan battles format when a lot of clans struggled to get 7 people available at the same time was another speshul decision. 8v8 ranked when they don't let you bring even one division mate is pretty idiotic, too. Overall I agree with the OP, this year was just filled to the brim with decisions that made the game worse in one way or another.

[CHEFT] ForlornSailor Players 7,374 posts 11,735 battles Report post #14 Posted December 16, 2019 What I didnt like about Benham (and the other recent event) is, that WG creates gamemodes, that have almost nothing to do with the game itself. Absurd speeds, weird consumables or camoflages that, while beeing nice in detail, just dont connect with the whole "warships of world war 1+2" theme. I dont gain any skill for the game itself, I dont grind my lines, from the settings its not why I chose to play this game - yet im forced if I want to have the rewards.
[NECRO] MementoMori_6030 [NECRO] Players 6,381 posts Report post #15 Posted December 16, 2019 Well, I started this game on last christmas, right after I spent some hours in the emergency station of my favourite hospital, so one could say my entry into WOWs was kind of a lesser of two evils. As 2019 was my first year with the game (and it is for several reasons not really foreseeable if there will be further years), I am cautious to proclaim it as the worst year. Life always proves that most things get worse over time. But regardless of what happened with the game in the meantime, I still like it enough to keep playing - and even spending money on ships, as long as they were built and part of the IJN - as long as circumstances allow it and WG does not ruin the IJN for me. Banzai!
[RONIN] 22cm Beta Tester 6,377 posts 36,662 battles Report post #16 Posted December 16, 2019 I know that Benham was a hard grind, but it was still grindable. Compare that to Puerto Rico, during Christmas or New Year as an extra bonus.
genosse Players 460 posts 6,789 battles Report post #17 Posted December 16, 2019 I came back to the game in 2019 and to be honest, I enjoyed and still enjoy it a great deal, probably more than in 2015 (stealth firing sucked). So, if this was the worst year, it was still pretty good, in my opinion. That's the gameplay, though, not the grind, events or other meta stuff. If the trend of turning WoWs into an online casino with an attached game mode continues, I have a bad feeling for 2020. Not very often did I feel more neglected, undervalued and downright scammed, than by being a cash cow customer of Wargaming in 2019. Remember when WoT started, it was praised as free to play done right. It was the first game I ever spent money on after the initial purchase, because what you could get seemed fair and modest for the asking price, and there was no pay to win. See how much of this attitude has survived until now. A shame, really.
[KAKE] Uglesett Players 2,804 posts 6,795 battles Report post #18 Posted December 16, 2019 Benham grind was a natural step in seeing how far they could push people which they followed up with the Puerto Rico event now. The only reason it didn't get more criticism than it did was because people were too busy rioting over the NTC to really pay attention to the runaway train on the "special event" track.
[LADA] Gvozdika [LADA] Players 975 posts 10,423 battles Report post #19 Posted December 16, 2019 2019 the worst year of wows. Highly likely. However, someone in St Petersberg may read the above and not take it as a complaint. Oh no. They'll view it as a challenge. Stay tuned for 2020 - we've probably seen nothing yet.
