Why so little control over CVs aircrafts ?

So I'm not a seasoned player at all, but something with the actual CVs gameplay bugs me : if CVs are now a World of Warplane minigame, why do we have our planes locked on a rail ? Why can't we control the altitude of our squadrons, why do we have so little control over our squadrons concealment, speed(/flying capabilities), spotting range, island protection ? There must be a reason, so what is it ? If not could this be a good tweak for CVs gameplay and maybe balance ?

How does making them more powerful make them better balanced?

  • you do not need to control altitude as this makes no difference
  • how do you plan to change concealment? Stealth technology? Just use islands.
  • you can change the speed of planes...
  • how do you plan to change spotting range? give the pilots blindfolds?

Because clearly what we need is potato CVs crashing into mountains/the sea because they aren't useless enough yet.

Christ, can you even imagine that?

Where did I talk about making them more powerful ? my only point is about having variation in CVs gameplay, as for your points :
 

  1. It could make a difference, if done correctly
  2. No but the higher the squadrons, the farther they can see, be seen and attacked
  3. I'm talking about altitude differences and flight capabilites, aircraft do not have the same capabilities at the same altitudes (some are high altitude specialist others are adapted to lower altitudes)
  4. See n°2, planes are stealthier and harder to hit at low altitude, but are practically blind

Sounds like you want to play a high-end flight simulator. I suggest you go look for one instead of messing up what's supposed to be a ship-game even more.

You can fly lower with TBs when in attack mode, to dodge the flack, or to hide behind the island. More would be OP as hell.

Well this isn't incompatible with the current "protection" system we have.

God battleships nevermind battlecruisers in that game would be a complete meme lol.

And having full control of your planes would just make striking things soo much easier.

  1. AA has no height limit in game
  2. Height makes you not easier to get attacked, not in game or reality, the opposite were true, giving planes more spotting makes the more powerful
  3. the planes already attack from optimal altitude
  4. Not at the sea, if it worked like that in game, it would make them more powerful

As I suspected, you want to make them more powerful.

The squadron combat we have is completely fantasy, though the same goes for the ships really. It’s idealized naval combat the way someone who has only ever seen ww2 hollywood movies thinks it was.

While I’d like it to be some cool gamemode where you actually fly a plane and the rest of the squadron mimmicks your moves/attacks, it would still have to be super arcady, so really what’s the point then.

I’d pay money to see aircraft crash into mountains though!

All IJN CV's should have the Kamikaze option, that might be fun
