Radar consumable for CV squadrons

First some facts:
During WW2 surface searching radar were used on allied carrier borne aircrafts to locate submarines with.

When DDs are using smoke it completely hides them from the CVs' squadrons and this makes it hard for CV players to support their team by chasing/locating enemy DDs.

The French DDs, certain Japanese ones and the Khabarovsk either have no smoke or can be chosen not to have smoke and this places them in an unfair position compared to the DDs that always have access to smoke.

In order to make all DDs equal and fairly balanced with respect to CVs I suggest to introduce a radar consumable for all of the CVs' squadrons having a TBD activation time.

Actually... if submarines are still planned, a new specialised squadron type with maybe ASV radar, but armed only with depth charges would make sense, or maybe a one-plane unit like a PBY Catalina, FW Condor or similar coming in from off-map. Something suitably easy to shoot down.

Failing that, a squadron that is only able to scout very well but not fight is viable.

And before you freak out, just to remind that a CV player can only be controlling one squadron at a time, in one part of the map... if he’s hunting subs he’s leaving the rest of you alone...

Only if the Radar ONLY detected Periscopes of submerged Subs and not DDs/CLs - They don't need anything else spotting them.

It is a hard enough job playing a stealthy DD or a CL (with the exception of Smolensk, Minotaur and Worcester) Here being spotted unexpectedly often means a trip back to harbour.

Except with what last sub test has shown, rockets and dive bombers are more than adept at obliterating surfaced and periscope depth subs.

Why not just add the frickkin "I win!" button for CVs????

They have that already. It's orange and it says 'BATTLE'.

It’s asking a bit much for a radar set to pick up a teeny weeny periscope but fail to detect something bigger (eg a whole cruiser).

Again, if a squadron is faffing about spotting then the CV is not doing other things elsewhere on the map. DD drivers are pretty good at hiding in smoke, and with AA switched off they can sometimes be very hard to spot in the first instance. If they are the slightest bit awake, they can avoid bombs and torps very easily. Even rockets aren’t an autokill, given the short attack run and the wide turning circle needed for a second pass - during which DDs can quite often vanish from contact again. And if the rockets don’t finish the DD off, even incapacitating the destroyer’s engines or steering can be useless if the DD driver has a repair party available. Ditto setting them on fire.

Basically, the Destroyer is far harder to kill with a CV than players are giving them credit for, if the driver knows what he’s doing.

They already have it. It's called "why are my planes spotted but I can't see a damn thing".

I have an Enterprise that says different.

The last thing that CLs and DDs need is ENHANCED spotting by Aircraft - sorry to disagree with you.

It isn't the CV that kills in most instances it is the surface ships that that then focus on a spotted DD so enhancing the spotting, allowing aircraft to radar into smoke or around islands will be murder.

If you had aircraft with Radar that would only light up BBs and CVs then it might work, nut you would struggle to sell the idea as nothing can be allowed that seriously challenges BBs.

As for the physics of a Periscope only detection, yeah, I'll agree with you.

And yes the OP is right, it was when we had flying Radar that the Battle of the Atlantic finally turned in the Allies favour. But this was also down to the use of Enigma intercepts as well as the Radar.

Aircraft killed more Subs than surface ships. Subs only killed a handful of other submarines, and only one documented kill of a submerged sub by another, the others were torpedoed on the surface like a surface ship.

He just trolls and you know it.

Please, don't play his game and take him serious!

I liked the one where he thought MM should consist of all the best players (and him) on one team, and a bunch of below 50% on the other, so that he always won.

During WW2 atomic bombs were used from planes, ergo TX CV planes should have nuclear capability:Smile_smile:

Please tell me this is just trolling, because this would be a terrible idea.

Anyway a good CV player doesn't need an extra tool to make a DDs life hell, they can do it very well already.

Oh God I just realised this will be one of the two trates of Russian CVs, the other of course will be that Russian CVs will have captured Fritz X guided anti ship bombs
