Matchmaking seems off. Kawachi vs Fusos?

I got my first BB, the Kawachi, and aside from the Co-Op games I went in to in order to learn the mechanics of a BB (I've been sailing my Grem and mobile IJN cruisers), I have been unable to get into a balanced match.

Great example was last night. 3 matches and 3 times pitted against at least 1 Fuso and often times 2. Tier V - VI cruisers as well and I'm sure the more experienced players know that tier VI USN cruisers can pump out a significant amount of heavy metal. I'm facing more Kongos and Fusos than I am even Myogis. The Kawachi is completely out of its depth against these ships.

In the first match I took a single salvo from a Fuso from about 14 kms and was sent to the bottom. At that range I cannot even get within 3 kms of him.

In my second match a Fuso put me away with 3 salvos while I was trying to run away (again due to lack of range he was able to pump rounds in to me while I could not)

In my final match a Kongo drove me off and I was chased down by tier V and VI DDs and cruisers and was quickly sunk.

I can't keep up with my team either as they were also all in the tier V - VI bracket with only one or two tier IVs. And even when I do ask they moan about matchmaking and leave me to my fate.

In fact, since getting the ship on Saturday I have engaged an enemy Kawachi only once, and it was fun, otherwise in every match I'm having to hang back and jump on a low tier cruiser that breaks off or joining in to batter a high tier BB/cruiser that is isolated and/or under heavy fire from my own Kongos and Fusos.

I can't help but find this scene adorable.:P

Well, what can I say? Thankfully, you'll have to use the kawachi just for a few matches until you reach the decent Myogi. Until then MM will keep throwing this kind is stuff to you due to how few Kawachis are in the queue.

MM is preparing your lower body parts for USN BB gameplay:popcorn:

go do the coop battles there are against the bots and upgrade your ship then try the random battles will help a lot some ships are donkeys and some racehorses so grind in the coop will be a lot easier but take longer and the battles will be a lot stress free hope this helps

Three words. Closed Beta Test.

Give them a zero on their game balancer review.

I, however, am a firm believer that any ship that knows it's place on the map and in the team can contribute, irregardless of tier. That is what makes this game beautiful.

Wait until you start encountering the Amagi.

I hate that thing.

MM usually do a 2 tier spread if it has enough players. The fact you get 3+ MM means the matchmaking is struggling in matching the current players in a 2+ MM.

I faced the same problems when I was grinding the IJN BB Line, I quickly adapted the "tactics" of waiting, waiting and waiting, until the big enemy BB where spottet and then driving to the other side of the map to scare some Cruisers.

The Myogi is imho a far superior ship, when you understan how to drive her (when turning, always turn away from enemys), but once you have the Kongo everything before is forgiven.

i guess most of the time  not many players play  lower tiers , and because of that  mm put you in higher ones , after tier 4 matches become  a little bit better

I usually am afraid of CV's that are higher tier than I.. Well .. except Langley.. Langley is not scary. :)

Otherwise I sail happily in my cloud of ignorance and bliss and shoot every red ship I see.

The tier difference does not mean that much in WoWs yet, but let's see what happens when the armor comes into play, then I think my opinion could change.

Heh, in my Myogi I got into a Nagato battle (with attending cruisers and DDs). It wasn't exactly a hoot for me until I squared off against a Nicholas. We killed each other with him laughing in the chat about his BB kill, until I informed him of the poor trade he made. Then it didn't seem so fun... well it was for me.:teethhappy:

Does someone know if that 2-ship gap is also part of the MM balance or if it's more along the lines of the CBT? A lot of battles are with equal sized teams but a fair amount of them also have a 2 ship advantage to one team. I can see advantages to both approaches but personally I'd prefer the equal teamsize at all cost over giving one team a numerical advantage because the other team has a better/higher tier ship.

T3 always sucks in WG games. T2 is fun, but when you get to T3... you will be screwed by the match-making nearly every single match. It doesn't help that we currently have the old style WoT tier spread, with +/- 3 tiers, whereas WoT is now - sensibly I might add - using +/- 2 tiers. Let's hope we get the latter when the game moves into OBT, because if they repeat the same mistakes made in WoT... well, I suspect a lot of people will not be very happy about it.

Was the only tier 3 ship in the whole game with Kawachi. Not like there was lack of players in queue, the game started within half a minute. There were only a couple of T4 cruisers and destroyers per team, rest ships were T5 or 6.

Not much you can do in slow battleship when pretty much everything outranges you by 5-10km.

I had 2x Saipan vs 2x Lexington. You can imagine how that went.

T3 is great when you get a T2/3 match... but how often does that happen? Yeah, not much. We can only hope that they use the current WoT tier spread when the game goes into OBT, because +/- 3 tiers is just too much given the significant time gap between certain tiers.

Yeah hopefully the 3 tier spread is only for CBT because it'd be terrible to keep it into OBT, once Warships is properly free to play and not get really lucky or buy to play there should be a lot more players since imo it's more fun than wowp.

We told them that during the WoT CBT, but they didn't listen to us until almost two and a half years had passed, and even then they still believed they were in the right from the get go. They just don't seem understand that people do not want to be matched well beyond their tier's capabilities, probably because they are so out of touch with the community. It wouldn't hurt them to play their own games once in a while either, preferably in the same way that we have to, without skipping tiers and problematic tanks/ships.

It's very difficult to understand WG's logic (such as it is) at times, especially when it comes to keeping the player happy. That's a pity, because the games are on the whole pretty damned good, it's just the little things which tend to - excuse the shameless pun - sink them.

still not as bad as tier 7's vs nothing but tier 10's and some 9's

Depends on the Tier 7, I'd say. Nagato can hold her own very well in that, Pepsi and Mogami both work as skirmishers and Mahan can still go around murdering other DDs and pestering people with long-range shooting and torp ambushes. Hatsuharu and Saipan are pretty SOL, though.

The difference between tiers is nowhere near as harsh as in WoT in general, though.

In WoT I don't like much below tier 5 though.. don't enjoy tier X more then 5-9 either ;)

Guderian_GER actually managed to one on one a Yamato and beat the crap out of it in a <7 km engagement to my amazement since I was also shelling him with my Senjo.

He's not the best team player though...

Personally I haven't had much issue with the spread. There's some stinkers at the low tiers (Kawachi, I'm looking at you) that don't deal well with facing higher tiered opposition, but the problem pretty much goes away past tier V. Neither firepower nor health tends to shift drastically beyond tier 5 unless significant sacrifices are made, with some exceptions (Des Moines, I'm looking at you this time). This might change with the changes to armor in 0.3.1, but looking at the stats on paper armor doesn't change that significantly between tiers either.

Tier III in particular has issues, though. The Kawachi and the St. Louis don't stand a chance against the Myogi and the Phoenix, since both range and speed are significantly increased, meaning the later ships can kite the earlier ships to death with ease as long as the player behind them have two braincells to rub together. This can be slightly mitigated by contesting a capture point, but only slightly. Basically, the moment the opponent has you beat in both range and speed, you're doomed as long as it's a one on one scenario, which thankfully it pretty rare unless it's towards the end of the match and you don't do something silly.
