Irian, is it's fun/good?

Topic title, hardly heared anything about the release of tis ship, and it looks pretty interesting. Who's got some experience with it and can tell me how it plays?

If you like light cruiser gameplay with great guns but bad armor, this ship should be interesting for you - particularly if you liked ships like the Tier VI-VIII USSR cruisers. The deepwater torpedoes can be a nice gimmick - but I wouldn't recommend buying the ship for that aspect alone.

Fun - most certainly yes.

 

It follows the usual Soviet traits - laser guided shells on one side. No armor, visible from space on the other. 

 

It can be deleted by any BB with a single volley at any angle, but I love it. One of best  purchases I made this year. (and I was always - I will never touch Pan-Asia, now I can't imagine not having it in the port) And torpedoes pack an all-mighty wallop.

@VorlonInside @Crysantos Thanks, sounds like my cup of tea. I like glass cannons that have a challanging risk reward scheme. The only downside for me is no silver cruiser line to train the capt. for. It needs it's own dedicated captain for now I presume?

If you have a Kutuzov you can share the commander, otherwise the commander would be probably the most suited for a mid-Tier Soviet cruiser.

 

Disregard, this is true for the captain build but not for sharing due to different nations.

Not sure that you can share a Russian Commander in a Pan Asian ship, unless I missed something?  

 

So yes, IMO @europizza you need a dedicated Pan Asian Cruiser commander with this, but you could use a DD Commander in it with IFHE and CE I suppose and make it work.

Ah god, it's Friday evening and my brain stopped working - you're right

 

Obviously this commander is quite special and you need to train it up specifically for this ship - no other Pan-Asian ship would really share except for maybe the Huanghe. For the PA DDs I would recommend a different build.

Actually planning of using the specific one in my Gadjah. Sure he's not absolutely perfect as a Irian driver with SE and IFHE, but should be workable..

For me it's great. Those torps are a good tool in some situations. Can stop the pushing flank by torp soup. The bad armor and big size are the problem cause you don't have the Kutuzov range - 17.5km on this not 19.1km.  imho 8.5/10.

Got the ship today and omgg it's great I killed 2 bbs with the torps and the guns where starting fires left right and centre so glad I've got her now.

I have this ship and this is by far my favourite ship in the whole game. I have cca 15 premium ships, but Irian is the most potent and fun. It's absolute beast with high chance starting fires. Guns are so powerful and accurate, and 13,5 km torps are hillarious. You are menace for destroyers and all other ships. I am not sure is it worth to have IFHE for captain build, I guess it would be worth it.

It is worth it. You can pen 32 mm armor, which is every bow and stern section of all BB's in the game and pretty much all cruisers with some exceptions. The raw damage output outweighs the rather small loss in firechance.

There's a trick with that one. If you put that special PAN Asian captain on that ship, the one that comes with boosted fire chance. And you take both IFHE and the skill to increase fire chance. You actually only lose the extra fire chance "boost" taking IFHE that the special captain gives you. So you can take IFHE and Fire chance skill, and gain the full fire chance extra with IFHE - that you would get with a normal captain that does not have that boosted fire chance, like that special Pan Asian captain gives you.

 

If you get what I mean...? So it's worth taking both IFHE and Fire Chance skill with that special Pan Asian captain. You'll gain on both, IFHE only loses you that boost the captain offers extra over other normal captains. So you end up with same fire chance boost as a normal captain would give without IFHE taken
