Really not the case. At least not right now. Maybe in 2 months time when it's actually cold out. Right now, the air is as clean as it gets (not much but not smoggy either). It is only really bad if you're sitting in a car, in the middle of a traffic jam in the center of the city. If you're anywhere else it's normal for a 4,5 million resident city, if not a bit better.

The valley thing is true, the little air movement not so much. It gets pretty windy because Athens is built between two mountains and the valley inside gets narrow, fast moving streams. It occasionally gets no wind but most of the times there's a breeze. Not to mention the past 5-8 days, that I started to feel like we were constantly in the middle of a monsoon. The air was blowing so fast I could feel it driving down a very central 3 lane road here. You don't usually expect to feel the air pushing your car anywhere other than in a large highway.

Take this opportunity to visit The ancient Triereme and RHN "AVEROF" ( as a live Navy History Museum)  in the FLOISVOS Marine Bay , you wont regret it!

Maybe a small article and video about it , you dont get to see 2000 year old design and a very well preserved 1910 dreadnought everyday !

Don't mock T10 Belgian Battleship "A4"! The fastest and biggest warship Belgium had at the outbreak of WW2! Yes, it's a Mersey-class trawler that was scheduled to be scrapped, but we found out that we didn't have a ship anymore to carry our gold to the UK when Germany visited us again.

In addition to the above mentioned I have to point out:

1. The 2.500 naval history of Greece starting from Salamina naval battle up to date

2. The "lucky uncle George" (nick name of "Averof") and its first captain Pavlos Koundouriotis

3. The amazing history of "Adrias" (please check)...

4. Lots and lots of other history insidents regarding Greek naval history

5. The history of "Nautilus" (first ever seaplane used in war). 

6. The fact that Greek owned merchant navy is one of the three globaly (not bad for t 10mil. Nation

 

    Therefore I believe that the traditional unbreakable bond between Greeks and sea must be honored with two or three ships (including Averof) to the near future... I have to say that I feel allready honored as a Greek when  I see Greek captains in the co-op battles and we must thank you on this.
