Indeed. Only worse cardinal sin than showing your side to the enemy in a Richie is to hump the border.

You got several Options due to her not so tough side and the sometimes brutal MM and dispersion i rather like her in a position as she really can melt fast.

She has no RL Booster like Jean Bart. ( In fact no french bb has as they all come with speed boost as their gimmick ) 

So yes Patiently getting into a good position and then hammer away on the enemy , she has french guns so they randomly have strange baguette factors build into their penetration that makes citadels happen or not. if you come under fire try to drop detection look for a new spot to get the enemy under crossfire rinse and repeat...

As with any religious icons, the key to making the Richelieu work, specifically its guns, is copious amounts of praying.
When they work, it's bonkers penetration on fast shells with a lower arming threshold than 406mm guns, so a bit less chance of overpenetration.
If you can make that work with the fast ship with all forward turret layout, you're good to go.

When you can't though, and it will happen, you'll be out of boost when you most need it, in a ship with 32mm plating, massive superstructure that can eat 10k damage from AP while bow on, with bent guns that hit nothing, or can't overmatch that one Des Moines, or just overpens a tasty broadside.
This will happen.
It will not be fun.
You will not have a superheal to compensate.
Praying is all you will have left.

But then the next game, you see a broadside Montana 20km away and score a double citpen on it, while rushing down a poor DD who's out of torpedoes on a cap with your oversized battlecruiser.

Secondary skills are either for just having fun or people without skills. You will most likely do better with increased artillery/survivability, if you know what you're doing.

While viable on the Alsace later i don't see them viable at the Cardinal.... She just has not enough of them ahead to justify putting points into that. Also Republique suffers from speccing into Secondary Skills she suffers very hard while getting in range to make the fireworks work.

Frankly I have found that copious amounts of swearing can work just as well.
