Does Detonation Mechanic actually have any Use in this Game aside from annoying People ?

What the? There is no choice. And viable setups generally means min-maxing stuff. There is no min-maxing with a random occurance that takes away your whole ship in one go. It's not like you lose a bit less attackpower and gain something else, be it increased stats or an extra buff. If you don't equip the flag, there is a big chance that you are sent directly back to port even if you were full life, just for taking one bullit or torp. You can't take the gamble because you can lose everything in one go: the rest of the flags, the cammo, the help you are for your team, the potential money/xp/etc you might have earned that match. So no, it has nothing to do with "a different setup".

It is completely irrelevant as it does not rewards any of the players for playing the game correctly or showing skill. It's just something random that happens and only takes the joy out of the player that gets detonated. I think that players that really like playing the game the right way don't even want to shoot down other people with a detonation as it doesn't take any skill to do so, thus there is no satisfaction to get out of killing people with a detonation. It can easily be removed from the game without anyone being worse because of it.

First of all, detonation is not an "invented" mechanic. Ships actually detonated. And it is a choice to fly the detonation signal as it is for BBs to fly fire duration reduction signal.  You may choose not to use it but it will have consequences same as using/not using any other module/signal/upgrade etc.

I got detonated yesterday in my Amagi when the enemy CV torpedoed me. I was down to 2000 hp, so it felt like a bonus. I wasn't even mad! :fish_cute_2:

Yes, that is correct.... but the roll for the detonation is done AFTER the damage from the projectile (torp) has been calculated... so the torp hit would have taken him below the 75% threshold and then rng said 'detonation = True'... BOOM :etc_red_button:

All these thoughts and concerns about detonating DDs around every corner. They are so touching.

 

Yet here I am playing my DDs mostly without the anti-detonation signals and still have less then 1 detonation per 100 games. I have streaks of several months of almost daily playing without a single detonation occuring to me. I always die due to shells or torps totalling my hitpoints. Am I doing something wrong?

I like detonations; giving and receiving. 

 

I'm sure somebody above has already mentioned Hood etc.

I'm down to 50 or so detonation flags.. up till a while ago I always ran them on DD's as I had plenty. I'm running a bit dry I feel, I want a min number of them available ( and I don't want to buy them, that is to easy ) so I am running my DD's without that flag for some time. 

 

Like you I'm still waiting on those new tasty detonation flags..
