Does Detonation Mechanic actually have any Use in this Game aside from annoying People ?

Nah, just another mechanic made by wargaming to piss you off essentially.

Because it happens so rarely its far more noticeable when it does.

Even worse during crucial moments of gameplay.

essentially, when you get detonated you get ammoracked, but wargaming hasn't bothered to make the ammorack seperate so they just stuck with what they bothered to do.

I Generally dont Feel Happy either way.

If it happens to me I feel annoyed. Because I didnt get a Chance to do something this Match.

If it happens to someone else. I somehow dont feel like I deserved the Kill.

Mounting a special flag with magical powers to stop detonation is about as unreal as everthing else in this game.

Datalinks to help you see out of smoke.

Unlimited reloads of torpedoes/shells/planes.

Imaginary circles in the ocean that have to be "captured".

The fact that I accept all this as normal proves that I am insane. :Smile_sad:

I think I'll go and get drunk. :Smile_teethhappy:

As said: Adding another RNG level to give even a low player (low tier, low skill) a chance to win against any opponent.

Apart from that: Don't mind them. It's funny ... especially if it happens 3 times back to back in my Maass back then.

As it is implemented now, I think it's a bit meaningless. I do have a chuckle when my target blows up -- depending on the time and place it can be downright hilarious. When I gamble and don't fly the signal, I don't really mind when it happens to me.

But they could be a lot more dramatic. Something like below, possibly also producing a big-[edited] cloud of smoke that takes minutes to disperse. Then it would be meaningful. @Crysantos please fix?

In real life, many magazines exploded when the ship was already sinking and developed a heavy list. In the game, if detonations had nice audio-visuals, the mechanic could also be applied to ships already dead -- obviously with a very small chance.

Yeah, pretty much.

RNG of MM gave you 3 players without detonation flags and then RNG of damage mechanics detonate them.

.. Flip the table and take a break for favorite beverage

Going to Repeat the Question.

Does this Mechanic have any meaningful reasoning behind it.

Or is it just a way to Annoy Players into Spending Gold to Disable it.

The reasoning from WG is this: "detonations happened in real life, so they are historic, and they make every engagement unpredictable, no matter how low the chance is"

The arguments you often hear in favour of it: "it's historical", "it's balanced because it's rare", "you can counter it" and "it's fun to detonate an enemy".

In my opinion, detonations are the most moronic mechanic in this game (yes, it beats radar going through islands, CV rework, and upcoming subs) and should have never been implemented.

Besides all that, WG, for some strange reason, is absolutely determined to leave this "fun and engaging" mechanic in the game.

If they want to make the Game Historical they should first Remove HP and stop giving Russian and Japanese Ships the most Accurate Guns of Naval Warfare.....

Mostly i detonated on my ruski dds and sometimes german bbs. I detonate mostly Des Moises and Salem when they tries to flank me from very close distances. Its very irritating and the same time enjoying mechanic :) Don't know why but i like it on both way actually.

I once had a one shot torpedo kill on a Montana in my Shimakaze...

How many ships in previous conflicts simply exploded because a shell penetrated a magazine.. easy answer loads.

Nice when it is in your favour..

I wouldn't want to remove it though, it is as least a realistic feature. If you don't like it put up a single flag... problem solved.

3 Games in a row... fun times :Smile_sceptic:

In total, 96 detonations out of 10 440 random games played :etc_red_button:

That is 95 too many IMHO

Let's leave just one in recognition of whichever warped person put in the work of implementing this sick feature. A tiny piece of recognition of his/her evil.

Literally just got detonated in my Yamato, survived enough damage to heal through 4 damage controls.

Finally start engaging again and then a CV fires three torps at me.

All hit the torpedo belt for 5k dmg and then the last one detonates me.

Brilliant mechanic.

Gotta reward them zero skill CV's more WG.

Then my team lost because they only had one BB left when we was winning.

And in any case if that bothers you, there IS a Signal Flag (Juliet Charlie) AND an upgrade slot (Magazine Mod 1) you could take to deal with that problem so if you have chosen not to mount either, it is kinda your own fault after all... :Smile_great:

That's ofc a silly and useless comment. To have to ommit a crappy game mechanic by using a modslot or flagslot to get rid of the crappy mechanic. On top of that, having something manditory in an optional slot doesn't really make it an option anymore, does it? WG fixed the same thing with the detection skill being a mandatory skill for all captains to take and integrated the skill into the game as a regular game mechanic.

So as to Sun's question: if the ships that are prone to detonate have to use flags and mods to get rid of the chance as mandatory, I'd say "get rid of the mechanic". On top of that, a mechanic that randomly deletes you from the game for no apparant reason other than a suuuuuuuuper lucky shot without intention to detonate, is imo a crap mechanic not worthy to be put in the game. It's not fun for anyone as there is no skill involved.

See, this is just BS. If you can ommit a whole game mechanic, and it even becomes mandatory to do so because of what you can lose if you don't, then the mechanic becomes useless and unnessecary. You might as well get rid of the mechanic, the flags and a flag slot and you have the same effect. And I'd rather have that than to have to manage something extra that adds like 0% fun or proffit to my gaming experience.

Edit: we can even turn the whole issue around and add in all kinds of things that disrupts gameplay, but are fully avoidable by putting flags in the game with a 100% nullification, like stranding on sandbanks and be unable to move for the remainder of the game (ofc with lots of sandbanks added to the game by WG just under the waterline where you can't see them), breaking your hull while hitting islands and sink instantly, losing fragile equipment in storms (like radar dishes or electrical equipment getting damaged so you lose all your abilities, or "losing crew" which won't let you be able to repair anymore) randomly without the ability to get them back, etc. I wouldn't even mind adding flag slots for them, but "hey, it's realistic and if you just manage all the flags, you never have to encounter any of these game mechanics ever.

Had that in a Game with my Hosho Yesterday....

It was like Wargaming Literally did not want me to Win this Game.

Each time the Team went Slightly ahead. BAM Some Nearly Full HP Ship just Exploded with an Detonation Award...

So, from reading through the thread, it seems like one has a detonation in about 1% of games.

And a mechanic that comes only into effect every 100th match is completely irrelevant and could be removed without any impact whatsoever.

I mean no Offense to anyone. its not like its happening so often that I really care so much.

But not caring about it and it actually having any meaningful purpose in the Game is two different things.

So does this mechanic actually have any reason to exist beyond being annoying and frustrating and thus giving WG an option to Sell a Signal which just removes the Mechanic from the Game for you ????

Or is this Mechanic really just a sort of Middle Finger from WG to anyone who is too new to the Game as to Afford the Signals for Credits and who wont throw Gold at WG to buy Signals to make this go away ???

It annoys you, that's good enough for me.

If you sail a dd and don't fly the detonation signal, you pretty much deserve it for being that cheap...

It's to give a choice to players so not every setup is the same. If you decide to use the module and flag you can't use a other module or flag. So it's a player  choice ..... It gives some different setups.
