Captains! 

 

Tier II–VIII French destroyers now become available for research in the Tech Tree. More details are available in a dedicated article.

 

Completing missions and Directives will bring you signals, expendable camouflage patterns, Legion of Honor containers, and a new temporary resource—French Tokens!

These Tokens can be exchanged in the Armory for the main reward of the event—the new unique Commander, Philippe Auboyneau.

Guys... You are going way too far with the special commanders... through an intensive grind with the directives you can barely get to 50% of the required tokens for Philippe... Please tell me how a better captain locked behind premium content (i.e. Missions for le Terrible or Mogador hidden behind a huge RNG pay wall on the previous event) is not evidence of a pay 2 win game. You must immediately clarify if Philippe will eventually be widely available for coal later on as you did on a small note for the Soviet special captain!

 

If my math is not wrong grinding the directives you can get 1150 tokens when you need 2100 (and then a bit more on the hall of fame, so, only for those without job or school or life outside WoWs)... Please tell me how a player with a life and without spending +/- 10000 doubloons can get the commander, and now tell me it is a free to play, pay to advance game!

 

STOP with these time AND money intensive events, use the bloody campaign system as you did with Yamamoto!

PD: Seriously, tell me how I can get it without having to spend 10000 doubloons +/- on top of giving you all my leisure time grinding the whole directives. Let me first talk about valuation:

Special captains cost 1500 doubloons in the arsenal. This captain is not any more special than these.

 

Wargaming took a lot of money for Ovechkin, but there was two free Ovechkins and they could be attained through a reasonable grind. And Ovechkin was a bit of a fan thing, so some people valued him higher, though most of us didn't. One could argue that the unique voice and avatar might constitute a value added. Still that was a weak argument, as fans of warships are not in particular fans of ice hockey.

Anyway this Auboyneau that is just a special captain. WG didn't have to bring him in for a record and photo session and pay him, he is dead. Why should players commit to a lengthy grind for something that is priced 6€ (1500 doubloons)?

 

Most people have the two special french captains (the Honoré ones) and they are easy to unlock getting a few crates for coal in the arsenal. Both Honoré captains are perfect for BBs and CAs. The new captain (Survivability expert, skill activating after capping) is a DD captain. Keep that in mind for the next paragraph.

 

Now let's talk about what Wargaming needed instead:

Wargaming created the new french DD-line to make people play them, thus being invested into the game. But most people don't like them. The french DDs are a disappointment to the community. The community wants DDs that can contest caps, spot and do surgical strikes on the other team. The french DDs promote an open water kiting style, are vulnerable to planes and mediocre at the key roles of DDs. Their low aggregate winrates reflect that.

A special french DD-captain could have compensated these negative experiences a little, if he was a reasonable grind. WG however makes him hard to get, further sabotaging the success of the DD-line.

Even worse. With the Research Bureau even players who had finished all lines now have an alternative to playing these unattractive french-DDs. They might have played the french DD-line just cause they had nothing else left.

 

How is that gonna backfire?

Players once again get the impression, WG loses touch with reality and gets greedy. A developer needs sympathy. Being seen as greedy sabotages sales as people refrain from spending money purely for spite.

How can players now still be looking forward to that special german captain WG announced yesterday at Gamescom? WG just signalled he might be waiting behind yet another unrealistic paywall. In business, trust and signalling is everything.

I have a feeling every event so far included the '3-day Premium' option to be bought with event tokens. I can only see '1-day Premium' now. Are we lowering prizes as well?

Wargaming should really start to get consistent again with how they marked their products. 

They started with Legendary Captains for BBs and CAs, then they added those for the dds. In that regard alone, they neglected the German and Japanese tree, because they are the ones with no better Turret travers and Survivability captains. 

(Well Japan just has Yamamoto.) 

Then they added the historical figures like Halsey, Yamamoto, Kuznetsov and now Philippe Auboyneau.

With their extra special abilities, to further break the gamebalance in random battles and ranked. 

Why does Wargaming hide critically historically Content behind premium events, so players joining at a later date will never get the chance?????????
This is beyond me? Even the short term monitary boost of these events cannot have more significance than the long term support and availability of content?

I have reached a point where wows is tiring me out, this is not entertainment anymore, but a chore. If this overflow of content continues,

I will lose intrest in playing the game as a hobby and stop even supporting the game with premium, 

Because withholding money is the only reasonble threat we as a cutomer have against WG. 

 

So what I would like to suggest is, stretch out the content more, don't hold Ranked, Clanbattles and new ships at the same time, because we your cutomers don't have the need time to commit to the game.

Give us more breaks between the events, or sequence them better, like one periode of competitive gp, one periode of content gameplay. 

And make anything that is "premium content" like premium ships or captains Transparent to the overall market inside the game. Like with the tier 9 large CAs. They are in the store and 100k free xp in the game. 

Right now WG is hoping on the frustration of its players when they see that they have invested so much time into the game so they will spent the extra 20 Euros it would cost to get the Captain. Thats scumy, sorry.

Why not make it hard to get, but possible for the dedicated players so they are happy,

available in the premium stroy for the moneykids,

and last but not least with the extra containers for those that would still like to have the content, so they will spent their money like this.

 

But right now even if you want the captain with money, you need 17 containers and you would need 4 transactions just to get them or spend extra with the 25 container pack and bind the customers money already for future content.

For all interested here is all the math.

Available Tokens in legion of Honor: 200+3*250+11*4*15= 1610

combat missions:

if you got or grinded to the le terrible: 200

if you already spend money or was lucky to get the Mogador: 200

so now you also need to be in the top 50% in the hall of fame to get another: 300 tokens

and we have 4 time the posability to get into the hall of fame.

 

Now for the Money part:

90 Euros for either the big pack

67,48 Euros if you buy seperate packs

 

So these are my long 2 cents to the topic. I hope Wargaming will change World of warships so the long term players don't get burn out.

After opening over a hundred of 'french crates' I finally got a mission.

 

Didn't read everything but I clearly recall reading 'Le Terrible' along the lines of the Bonus Mission received.

 

When I checked the 'Combat Mission' it was a mission for a freakin' Aigle.

 

Just when I thought WG would give me something worth having... Oh well, the struggle is real.

Last time i checked (9/12/2019 23:00 UTC +2), I was in the top 10% with ~8400 points, with the limit for the top 10% at around 7600 points and also well above the top 25% limit (some ~3000-4000 points). Today I only received the French Riviera camos. Will the tokens be given later or the top 50% limit increased that much over night?

No, it didn't increase that much... At 3 am the 25% was around 5000 points. I was in the 50% with 4000 + or -

 

Same, just got 5 cammos...

I got a reply, they told me they know about the issue and the are trying to solve it. The exact time of the token distribution is unknown.

STOP LOCKING THE MAIN PRIZES BEHIND PAYWALLS

The fact that the commander could only be achieved if you had Le terrible or Mogador to complete the final directives is ridiculous. Make ALL TASKS AVAILABLE FOR EVERYONE and put special combat missions for those ships if you really want to reward people that have them. How many people have the terrible and/or Mogador? I play your game every day grinding through the lines, I have the patience to do that but I have no patience for "pay to play" events like this!
