[TORAZ] Adm_Ballsey Community Contributor 549 posts 22,876 battles Report post #1 Posted August 17, 2019 Hello once again everyone, I finally managed to get the Jaguar mission drop from one of the French containers and it's kind of surprised me compared to the Siroco and the Guépard which are very much gunboats. The Jaguar has the same guns but it's these amazing torpedos and large hitpool that make this tier 5 French DD really stand out from the crowd. I hope you enjoy the video and until the next time keep sailing it like you stole it o7 My YouTube Channel link once again is Carbine Carlito I hope you feel free to drop by check out this and some of my other videos and Good Luck and fair seas to you all.
[P0RT] Admiral_H_Nelson Players 3,938 posts 23,206 battles Report post #2 Posted August 19, 2019 Another very enjoyable and informative video! APOLOGIES FOR THE WALL OF TEXT - BUT I FEEL RATHER FRUSTRATED AND NEED TO LET THIS OFF MY CHEST I watched this vide and the one that you did on the Guépard, and earlier I watched (and commented) on the Siroco video. Well I went ahead and got the Siroco so that I could do the mission to get 250 tokens. in the meantime I won the Jaguar and Guépard. I have all the available tier X DDs from the regular trees, so I was looking forward to completing the French line also (especially since - as I never tire of stating - I am an admirer of France in real life) There has been a very big "hiccup" I'm afraid. As you say the play style is not everyone's "cup of tea". As far as the Jaguar(the supplied 3 point captain) and the Siroco (16 point captain borrowed from a cruiser) the results have been quite effective, even if not particularly enjoyable. But Guépard has been a nightmare. Those Tier 8 cruisers murder it. The vaunted special damage system does not seem to help it at all. Whilst the guns are good for a comparable DD at the same tier, there is nothing as a gunboat that you can do in it that you cannot do better in a regular cruiser. The trajectory of the shells is also rather callenging for a gunfight. Carriers make your life a nightmare and when you do get into dog fights with enemy DDs the guns turn very slowly - almost like the old Russian DDs. If the rest of the line is like Guépard than it will be the first regular line that I will abandon (Apart from Carriers because of other issues which is a separate discussion). The fact that you can make all of these ships so well tells me that you own skill ceiling can cope with them. I think that there will be an awful lot of average players out there who get frustrated with them.
[TORAZ] Adm_Ballsey Community Contributor 549 posts 22,876 battles Report post #3 Posted August 20, 2019 @Admiral_H_Nelson Firstly, let me say thank you and I'm glad you enjoyed them. The French destroyer line is difficult to play well. It's the main reason I've tried to lay out simple guidelines about how to approach each ship as there are quite subtle differences between them and moving up the tiers really does affect the gameplay quite dramatically. I feel your pain with the Guépard, my first 10 games in it had 8 with tier 8 cvs and the other two had double tier 6 carriers so I got used to getting smacked around plenty -) Avoid the rush forward and whenever possible look to play the role as support destroyer operating in the zone just behind your own destroyers. Can be difficult when playing solos in randoms as you are reliant on solid dd play from teammates but when playing divisions it's much easier you can set up with this in mind I'm currently playing the Vauquelin and it's proving to be the most difficult so far. Lot of tier 9 matchmaking, tier 8 carriers enemy, tier 8 destroyers with far superior concealment, you know the drill. I'm going to cover this aspect of support dd play more and hope to provide a clearer picture in the next video. All I can say is "Don't give up". These ships are good and feel very powerful at times.
