What ship did you instantly fell in love with and why? (Include your build)

Even though I have the Hindenburg in port for some time, I never really cared to play it. I did some matches in it this week, and was swept off my feet by how much fun this cruiser is to play, and how smooth and well she operates. She instantly became my favorite tier X ship. We just 'clicked' from the first match on, everything feels right. Her fire rate is great, her AP is fantastic, and her armor is trollish to say the least, purrrfect for chasing tail or kiting. I really didn't expect to enjoy her as much as I do, but I actually fell in love with her within the first match.

So, I'm curious, what sweetheart swept you off your feet, and why? I might have overlooked certain gems in our techtree! And please, show us your build so we can admire this love of yours.

My current build is focused on rate of fire(s) and ammo switching for extra sexy times.

Its a difficult question to answer depending on what you mean :D Des Moines is my favorite ship in the game quiet possibly, its easely my most played ships (not in randoms thou, but in CBs and ranked). It was however not love on first sight, it took a while to master.

Then we have ships like Zao that I first loved and now is a bit meh about, same with Izmael.

I think there is a ship or two that I loved from the first battle and still do and that is the Lightning, and the Cossack, but I think I prefer Lightning, the guns feels more reliable. Could possibly count in Montana in that category however I like tier 10 BBs less and less. HE kiting cruisers from way long range are killing BB fun in tier 10.

One ship that i instantly fell in love with huh, easy.

The old T8 Fubuki "Bucky"

That ship had it all for me, it was fast enough, maneuvrable enough, the 3x3 launcher setup was perfect (small gaps) they were sneaky as was the ship (5.4km specced <3), traverse was ok, and the reload coupled with the range was perfect (1min reload) to top it all of the guns (B hull and gun spec) were decent and punchy.

Thats why i'm soo nagy on WG to put out a hight tier IJN DD with the 3x3 setup...any of the fubuki class sisterships, maaabe with akizuki turrets a'la Harekaze since the game is different now and those are better suited for self defence, but with the old (copy paste) fubuki torps. :cap_money:

The playstyle it had was just my flavour but it all came to a abrupt end because some smartypants einstein at WG decided to butcher her and slam her to T6 when the split happened:Smile-angry:

Now im stuck with Harekaze or Kamikaze...... exelent ships but...... Muuh bucky :Smile_sad:

I also like DM, Kronny, Nagato, Kii, Gaede, v-25, growing on Yoshino and a few others.... But.... Bucky!!!!!!

Powercrept, maybe, not that popular, possible, still a great fun ship to play that can be put in any situation and still pull a decent result out of it? Oh yes.

RTS Enterprise.

Because she was an actual challenge to play. Low strike reserves and wonky TB drop pattern meant she was extremely unforgiving, any mistake you made would severely hamper you for the rest of the game. Downtiered fighters required mastery of strafe mechanics despite ridiculous reserves. And she made KM BBs finally collect all those citadels they've been avoiding since their release (although make no mistake, AP bombs were a broken mechanic that never should've been implemented).

Also reworked Enterprise because I instantly realized she is laughably overpowered. WG seemed to disagree with me and proceeded to buff her tho. :Smile_trollface:

Didn't see a lot of RTS Enterprise, especially in 2k18.

Izmail. Why? ( apart from it being ridicoulsy OP ) Because this BB actually manages to land his shells where you aim and does this for most of your volleys.

Well, that's because there were only like a dozen players or so playing her (which did give her pretty good stats tho). She was unpopular due to several factors.

I think LWM sums it up quite nicely in her review:

Quote

Welcome to Hell!  To succeed with Enterprise, new players must master fighter strafing.  On top of this, they also have to have a good grasp of manual torpedo dropping -- except this is hard-mode manual torpedo dropping, not regular ol' easy-mode of torpedo dropping with Lexington torpedoes.  To top it all off, they also have to keep an index of high AA firepower ships in their heads from tiers 8+ otherwise their planes will evaporate when they're not top tier before they drop.  This all just to do an acceptable level of damage.

For the veteran knowing when it's acceptable to sacrifice planes to make a drop on a high-value target is difficult.  Managing Enterprise's reserves to win this war of attrition efficiently is key.  Trying to juggle your fighters against forces that can outrun and/or outgun you isn't fun.  And finally, getting her ordnance on target is always a challenge, particularly when it's not just sniping dumb, lone battleships.  Then comes the question of juggling damage over time effects versus with fires / floods or eschewing that and going for AP bomb drops instead.  There's so much to know for small but appreciable gains in performance!
[...]

This is not a new-player friendly carrier ... and carriers aren't new player friendly to begin with.  This is worse.  This is an expert's carrier and they may not want to bother with the amount of work needed to make it excel.

Roma. People ignore it, but if played right the ship can tank Yamato shells and keep coming. It's also stealthy, so it can ambush every other BB in it's tier and up. Plus, it's a beautiful ship.

As for the captain, I'm running a standard tank build - PT, AR, SI, CE, FP, BoS.

Aside from lol-ships like the Atlanta, GK or some other OP ships, I keep coming back to New Orleans. Great ship, not OP, no special features, just a normal ship that handles well and can solve a decent amount of situations and usually in fine MM as tier 7.

Given the no-special-features and a 19p captain I'm running some pretty questionable skills on her. Not a big fan of RL, but here I got it.

PM.EL.

AR

Vigilance

FP.RL.CE

unlocked the Myoko the other day and having lots of fun in it, good damage and fire starting and those random torp hits are just a brucey bonus, recently made a Edinburgh radar build and that has become much more fun than the smoke variant

Cruiser Number One - Fiji (1063 battles in random with her...). IMHO best light cruiser in the game :), 19 p skipper and permacamo.

She fell off a crate during XMass 2018. I looked at her and said "pfffft...a destroyer" and left her alone in port. Didn't even bother to dress her up. Just played her once in a CoOp for the snowflake event and I forgot all about her existence. February 20, 2019, I get the crazy idea to learn how to play DDs. Just after the rework. Don't know why. Even now I can't figure it out. Why on earth someone in his right mind wants to play DD when all cry out that DDs are unplayable is still beyond me. Not that I had good stats on DDs. I was a total disaster. I ask the forum, and I say "look guys..I have these ships in my port and I want to learn how to play DDs". She was one of the suggestions. I picked her. And since then I have almost 1,000 battles with her.

She doesn't care if she is low tier in a battle or if there are two CVs. She doesn't even blink if all her teammates turn and run. She will keep her flank just fine. Give her an opening and you are in trouble. She will carry you through and she will carry your team as well. Even if they potato she will make sure things get right. If you potato however, you are going to sink fast. She has it all. Stealth, Speed, Agility and a powerful bite. Well, her guns are decorative items and for AA you have a sailor with a slingshot astern but you don't need them. She is never seen. Silent, invisible and deadly. If they hadn't nerfed the flooding, she would be the definition of an OP ship.

beauty.thumb.png.fb379aba037da988b6de1f560a10fbdb.png

She is the Kamikaze. The perfect torpedo boat.

If I should play the game with only one ship it would be the Kamikaze.

Massachusetts.

Full secondary build; MFCSA, FP & AFT - no CE. Suits my play style of pushing into caps to give close support to DDs.

My favourite used to be Fiji, but she now feels very power-crept in the current meta.

Fiji

Murmansk and Marblehead ofc have the advantage of being Premiums, so i use Wooster and Chapa/Kutu captn on those 2

You inverted the historical camouflage. REEEEE

I don't use SE, but LS instead. Got sick and tired of the rudder being jammed.

I have a whole list of ships I instantly fell in love with:

-Bogue. I can't remember what build I used.

-T7 Pensacola. I can't remember what build I used.

-Arizona. Nowadays I seem to fail to hit anything in any US BB, but back then it was one of the few ships with which I dared to go into randoms without being in division. Most of the times I use my New Mexico captain: PM, EM, SI, CE, FP so far. After that BoS and I think HA.

-Tashkent. PT, LS, SE, AFT, SI, BFT, DE. I'm thinking about switching SI to AR and PM. Oh, and the plain blue camouflage of course. No dazzle fantasy.

-Z-39. For some reason I find it easier being bottom tier in this ship than being top tier in the Z-23. I use the Z-23 captain: PM, LS, SE, CE, SI, AR, TAE, PT.

-Icarus, Jervis, Lightning, Cossack: all great ships. My build is PT, LS, SE, CE, AR, BFT, RPF.

-Duguay-Trouin: replaced the Clemson as my go-to ship whenever I'm going to play tier 4. PT, LS, DE, CE

-Lyon: because 16 shell broadsides. I can't remember what build I used, but I guess PM, EM, SI, CE

-Cesare: because balans. PT, EM, SI, CE, FP

And probably a few more. :Smile_teethhappy:

Gneisenau, Secondary build.   I’d read a lot about Scharnhorst vs Gneisenau, before I got both, and opinion was divided, I’ve had shiny for months and got Gne a week ago, I got my first Kraken in the Gne 3 days ago, and still await my first in the shiny, The Gne is a ruthless killing machine, anything (DD, cruiser or BB) within 8km is toast, above 8km those 15 inch guns may fire slower than shiny’s but they do far more damage. Add in better AA and you have one very good T7 BB, that unlike Shiny uptiers well.  Which one; not even close, Gneisenau every time.

I’d always thought KGV was special but having annihilated a KGV earlier today nah, some say the Shiny is a cruiser killer, it may be but the Gneisenau kills them all.

Well it's a semi Khaba that can torp and - in lower tiers - cap/fight for cap with other DD. The speed, MBRB.

IFHE is great against lower tier BBs and higher tier cruisers.

Her TB drop pattern was very wonky, yes. LWM has a picture of it in her review. Just google for it.

Mikasa :Smile_teethhappy:

No really, it's true. Instantly loved that crazy boat. Triple Mikasa division is still the most fun moment I've had in this game in all those years. I literally had to stop playing because I was laughing so hard when my secondaries scored 2 double strikes in one game, while my main guns never hit anything that game :Smile_teethhappy:

Also Warspite, which I used to run full secondary spec in closed beta. Later, when the Germans made secondary spec on any other ship obsolete I switched to standard tank build. Still love that thing, even though it's slightly crippled by T6 MM.

I also love Arkansas, but I don't nearly play that ship as much as I would like. Still training a secondary captain for it to make full use of it's crazy secondaries.

Last but not least: Nikolai. Because clubbing poor little T3 seals with Rasputin camo is just glorious :fish_cute_2:
