250swb Players 628 posts 2,129 battles Report post #1 Posted August 9, 2019 I have a few of the unique Commanders but only one, Admiral Kuznetsov, who comes with fireworks and special coloured tracers. The question is does anybody here with a unique Commander who gets coloured tracers (or also fireworks like Kuznetsov) have them switched 'On'? I'm thinking if the Commander has special skills why would I want the enemy to know about them? Or am I overthinking this and there aren't enough knowledgeable players who care or understand a Russian ship firing coloured tracers can only mean one thing 'beware Kuznetsov !' Coloured tracers are pretty, but I can't bring myself to use them.
[THESO] Excavatus [THESO] Moderator 4,705 posts 17,888 battles Report post #2 Posted August 9, 2019 When kuznetsov uses his fireworks, it will be already too late for the enemy to act out. And frankly, I don't think anybody in this game, acts differently or change their playstyle when they see the colored tracers of a unique captain :)
[CMP] Hummus Weekend Tester 605 posts 5,346 battles Report post #3 Posted August 9, 2019 Ofc I have them turned on. When I'm sealclubbing with my Kamikaze at tier 5 it's important that the enemy team can see I'm doing it with the unique commander. (it's not like the information is really useful for the enemy anyway ..... they know you have a decent commander with at least 15 points ... that info doesn't affect the playstyle I use against the ship) 1

[EUR] lossi_2018 Players 3,122 posts Report post #6 Posted August 9, 2019 I learned about unique caps after 2k games. Still dont have one as I forget to work on the missions but I think it's nice having pretty tracers imo :)
[R-M] Isoruku_Yamamoto Players 1,437 posts 16,266 battles Report post #7 Posted August 9, 2019 I think i have them turned off, but then again i kinda like the clean look. Also i use isoroku yamamoto on my yamato, and securing a first blood or kraken is not exactly ideal- i just use it because the skills are very helpful. Im still a bit salty about missing out on Kuznetsov, since that commander is insanely good but was so grindy to get by. Wouldve liked it better if theyd made a campaign for him. Edit: or at least some way of working up to him eventually

Yes, Ovechkin, Halsey, Yamamoto and Kuznetsov do have their tracers activated for me - it's no big deal and some guys yuse even mods for colored tracers.

If they took the trouble to earn the Unique Captain, or spent the money for one, I think there going to be a " a more problematic player " and if there in My range, subject to other ships shooting at me I tend to try and " Retire " them as a priority. ~~

Coloured tracers are pretty, but I can't bring myself to use them. I do understand how your thinking but I also think you are overthinking it a bit. Myself, I actually always have averything turned on, specially on my Yamamoto captain that I have sailing my Harugumo and thats because of the physiological effect it brings combined with that scary DPM, add also to this the fireworks explodiong in the sky after you secure the first blood. I want to scare the living begesus out of the enemy and force him to panic and make mistakes. This could of course also have the effect that many more will focus me but I dought that since im a Harugumo, pretty much everyone and their mother will try and shoot me anyways. Just imagine you are a BB facing me in a Harugumo, you are burning in multiple places, suddenly fireworks explode and the DMP makes those pink shells form a solid rainbow upon your deck while the Harugumo gains back about half his health. Psychological warfare for the win! I think many enemy BBs on my flank will just tuck tail and run when they see my pink rainbow of death on their flank because they know they will soon the the focus of that rainbow.

[SM0KE] Verblonde Players 9,787 posts 20,664 battles Report post #24 Posted August 9, 2019 I have mine on (when I remember); when you're as dreadful at the game as I am, a few funny colours don't make much practical difference. I do react slightly differently to opposition ships with the tracers on though: at the very least, they're often an indication of a player that has at least played enough to earn said commander, so a little more caution may be called for (and I don't lose much if it's just someone who bought it from the shop)... If I shoot coloured traces, with my customary acuity and precision, my target might draw the conclusion that I haven't earned my special commander by skill and effort, and label me - correctly, as it were - as a Wallet Warrior. And he would then feel an added pressure to win the engagement, since no one wants to lose to a Wallet Warrior. I do not wish to be the cause of such embarrassment. 1
