Fanta, Mogador and Kleber share the same 18s traverse speed. The difference is the turret angles on Fanta are very bad, forcing almost broadside on sailing if you want to use them all.

Will see how it goes, if I want to respec once hitting the tier 9.

For long range gunnery it might be enough. But any <10km brawls and you might find turret traverse lacking. Mogador have abysmal firing arcs on 4th turret, so most of the time you'd use 3/4 your firepower. Only Kleber gets good, and I mean GOOD firing arcs, 24 degrees off axis.

 Out of interest just how big are these things?

 

 I'm only up to the Jaguar but find them to be bullet magnets, is the ship model overly large for a DD?

 

 I don't find them much use for Russian DD style running and gunning, frankly even with PM, last stand etc their engines or rudders are knocked out so often as to make you a sitting duck.

Well, French decided to go BIG with their destroyers and they encroach on "small cruiser" territory size wise.

 

Until tier 8 they don't have shell velocity for reliable open water gunnery, thus you focus more on assisting DD proper during cap brawls. From Fanta onwards things change, as you get:

-43kts base speed

-long barreled guns, fixing ballistics issue and getting serious AP pen buff along the way

-concealment gap only extends, making early on solo cap ventures potentially even more lethal

Agreed. However, it is easier to set up the engagement to have someone passively spot for you than following an ijn dd around (provided you have one on the team)

Against bow-tankers you tend to hit the nose or superstructure. Having IFHE has won me games in Fanta, but having played a bit of Mogador now, I will agree BFT+EM is more useful than situational IFHE.

Can't say I'm a fan of AFT and the Khaba playstyle on Mogador since i prefer the ambush style. On the other hand, I'm sold on EM on Mogador.

If one were to go playing Khaba style, AFT will probably be needed (testet without: At normal max range, you get hit too hard by stuff shooting back).

 

For the Mogador i now test my standard gunboat build modified to take EM instead of SI.

BFT cuts reload to something acceptable, and considering the amount of landscape to hide behind i rather have it for DD duels than AFT for longrange, low impact shelling.

You do not really need EM for 18s/180 degree turning turrets.

I also take Preventive M. instead of Priority Target, but otherwise my captain looks indentical.

I got Jaguar from a container, skipped her along with Guepard and Vanquelin with FreeXP and straight into Le Fantasque with my Aigle captain, that wasn't really suitable.

Enjoyed Le Fantasque. I don't think I survived a single battle on her but always took one or two with me.

Mogador I enjoyed even more and sped through her thanks to ubercamos and 200%XP on Anniversary week.

 

This will be the captain for her when I re-spec:

Personally I had this on all my FR DD from Fanta onwards

AFT gives healthy range boost for open water shenanigans after dealing with enemy DDs around cap or team refuses to get even remotely close to them. Alternatively Year of the Carrier rears its ugly head again and with no smoke, you'd want to stick close(r) to friendly AA.

For the captain I'm planning to go PT, JOAT, AR, SE, SI, CE,AFT.

But JOAT and SI good in combination with the extended engine boost which now lasts 4,5 minutes and more importantly the main battery reload booster?

Hey guys I'm wondering what to choose between BFT and DE?

 

I'm using Jean jacques Honoré and his buffed AR. And wondering what should I choose between increased DPM or increased fire?

 

Atm my captain build is PT, LS, AR, SE, and CE.

I'd like to take RPF with the four remaining point.

On high tier french DDs DE increases the fire chance from 10% to 12%, so a relative 20% increase. BFT increases the pure DPM by 11% AND a 11% increase in average fires set per time. Draw your own conclusion from these numbers, for me personally BFT is the clear winner in this comparison. The DPM bonus further stacks better with the reload booster consumable in my opinion.

Usually not a fan of Radiolocation, but I picked it for Kleber and it's decent so far. Not sure how it holds up, but being able to know where the enemy spotter is - which is outspotting you - is pretty valuable.

Only got as far as tier 6, and i still can't work out if i like french DDs. It's feast or famine. One minute 100k damage, the next about 500!

 

Playing against tier 8s with a CV in the game is no fun at all. I do sometimes think I should just park beside the CV and wait a couple of minutes before doing anything
