What's the point?

You're never going to hit a specific weakpoint anyway. Just aim in the general area and pray to RNGsus.

The point is to better compare ships. I am all for it.

I am using sites like

https://wowsft.com/

or

https://mustanghx.github.io/ship_ap_calculator/

every week to compare ships or understand changes.

But these sites depend on a bit of guesswork as it is not 100% clear what the WoWs AP formula looks like. These sites are close, but they still have slight difference to the few offically published numbers.

Knowing the penetration performance curve (i.e.: penetration at any given range) is quite nice information to figure out at what range your AP is effective against mainbelt/citadel armour (or for more practical purposes, at what ranges it isn't so you can specifically aim higher for casemate/hull penetrations or just switch to HE entirely).

I'm all up for getting any sort of information about ship perferomance characteristics, the more complete the information is about a ship, the better!

Though WG is going to brush this off with "not wanting to confuse players with too much statistics".

I'd like to see a bit of in game info about ships effective range.

For example, Russian BBs can shoot much farther than their effective range, but if you don't know that range you may be completely missing the point of those ships, or how some lighter guns have terrible range due to shell drop off, etc.

I'm sorry but memorizing hundreds of ships armor and gun stats just to get a slight edge in the game sounds like a bad idea to me. It's not like you have time to go look it up while in a match. Learn the overmatch-rule and then play the game. That's the way to know what works and doesn't work.

You learn by doing. You can try it out and learn by trial and error or you look it up and use it in game multiple times until you just know the distances.

If you make a list of armor pen values and try to memorize it, it will fail (for most people).

For an average playerbase member the existing pen value of HE shells is already an information overload as witnessed multiple times...
