The Battle of the Philippine Sea

On the morning of 19th June, 1944, Admiral Ozawa Jisaburo – commanding from the newly-completed armored carrier Taiho – received a report from land-based scout planes that a large American invasion fleet was approaching the Japanese bastion on the Marianas Islands. For the Imperial Navy, this was the moment they'd all been waiting for since 1941: the Kantai Kessen, or the decisive naval battle that they believed would turn the tide of the war in their favor.

The occasion called for the deployment of nearly all of Japan's last functioning warships, which were assembled into one of the largest and most powerful fleets to ever grace the seas. Admiral Raymond Spruance's US Navy 5th Fleet, however, would make Ozawa's 1st Mobile Fleet blush.

The US Navy was more than willing to take part in the "decisive final battle", as years of military innovation and industrial mass production since the start of the war had given the American forces the edge both technologically and with regards to the training of their personnel.

At 10:00 A.M. American carriers picked up the signature of the approaching formations on their advanced radar arrays and immediately scrambled their squadrons to intercept.

With both forces hot on each other's tails, the stage was set for the largest and most decisive aircraft carrier battle of the Pacific War.

I have all the ships in question so no idea what to do with it, same as this invite a friend, lol you would have to be pretty unfriendly to invite someone to this madness, I don't have any that are foolish enough.

You will get Doubloons if you already have the ships.... handy if you have a captain in need of retraining, or you can spend them in the Armory on another ship....

Monaghan's great fun. Not sure which side to pick... Massachusets or Atago would be my favourites... hmm. :fish_nerv:

if you don't have her go for the Atago, she is just a nice ship, sure T10MM here and there but i would favor her with her Heal and Stealth over the US DD with Guns Nr. 1323

Well considering there is 3 Prizes the best botprograms will win. I just go for 2 containers.

That.

The jackpot is going to be divided between CoOp farming bots and players who have the time to play eight hours or more straight every day of the event. The event scoring system is basically tailored to mindless grinding, so mindless grinders is who will win it. Just go for the 10 points for the containers and call it quits there, anything more is going to require unreasonable effort to compete.

I don't own that many tier IV-VII US or Japanese ships. Hmmm lets see, off the top of my head Kamikaze, Shinonome, Ryujo (no chance I'm inflicting that pain on my team) and Southern Dragon against Indianapolis and I think Colorado on the US side.

So US, 750XP at tier 7 is a given and I'm not going further than the 10 points for the containers anyway.

We used to rage about weekly missions being usually way too difficult but I do long for some rewards based on some skill rather than these endless grinding. But hey, for free stuff so all is good.

Southern Dragon

Is that one in the IJN techtree?

Because if in doubt, only ships belonging to the IJN (alternatively US) faction count and I wouldn't be surprised that ships like the ARP and possibly the Myoukou Dragons which technically belong to other event factions end up not being eligible.

@MrConway or @Crysantos might do a quick behind the scenes check on that.

When I see events like this I always hope one funny developer cranks up bots so they just massacre the half-afk human teams. Imagine getting 0 points after 72 hours of hard botting.

To be honest I'm not sure and I was wondering myself. I think I've seen them counted as IJN somewhere and wows-numbers has them as Japanese but official confirmation would be great.

I wonder how the games will pan out? The odds do seem heavily stacked in favour of USA, given the relative availability of decent ships in the tech tree and as premiums. E.g. for tier7 CAs US has Atlanta, Boise, Helena,  New Orleans, Indianapolis;  Japan has, er, just Myoko (and its identical ARP clones).

Boise with its heal is pretty much capable of taking on the Japanese Tier7 BBs mano a mano, let alone the Myoko....

Well then I wonder why in my port I have exactly 3 (!) US ship which are matching the contest criteria vs 13 Japanese (if the ARP ships count).

Yes, this will be counted for IJN.

No, you can get points for baseXP and / or winning separately.
