G'day folks.

I'm looking to buy in to CBT as I just cannot stand watching the Youtube videos anymore and not being able to join.

That said, which premium purchase would you guys recommend as newbie friendly but also something that would add to team/game value? I really like the idea behind the Japanese cruiser Yubari as an escort to BBs, but from the little I have been able to find you don't come across many CVs at its tier level so its strong point is underutilised.

I think I prefer the sims to the yubari, with hindsight I think I should have got the grem over the yubari. But if escorting and shooting planes down looks fun you wont regret the yubari. Its got ok guns and the torps come in handy as well.

p.s i ended getting the sims and the yubari as i couldnt make my mind up.

As this would be your first foray into the game I would suggest getting the cheapest (Yubari for example) as I certainly would not suggest you go straight out into battle with your Sims for example if you bought her or the entire package. Watching the videos of gameplay to the actual involvement is as far apart as you can expect but once mastered you will find the need to go out in your new Premium ship. Just take your time in the first couple of tiers to gain the experience and I am sure that you will be very happy with your decision to buy into the game now.

Sail on :honoring:

Buy the "Three-pack", includes Tokens(Gold), Premium account & discount on all three ships, much better value for money.

Ducat is right though, don't sail the higher Tier ships until you gain enough experience.

I got all 3,but do like Cruiser's and Battleship's a lot, Think it's more that I am not that good with torpedoes and do not want to sink my teamates

I would just buy any 1 to get ingame and then work out which ship's you like playing.

But does the prem account carry over into release? Otherwise it's wasted no in beta?

I have seen the prem function and wondered re this. As it stands you get enough credits and xp without prem (unless you are in a real rush to try out every ship, which I prefer to save for main game).

The Grem is the best I think because , in the Simms its the Im invincible 5sec s later no Im dead syndrome ... also the Grem is an allrounder kind of vessel. I use it as a light..ish cruiser

I agree with Guy, for sheer value the 3-ship package, with one month of premium and a fair bit of gold included, is a great buy if you can afford it.

Other than that, a lot of players seem to enjoy the tier V russian DD. It's the same price as the Yubari, and I reckon you'll get more mileage out of it.

Also, eLdritchMD put together an in-depth review of all 3 ships here:

buy the cheapest package you can...i got the T5 russian destroyer but didnt play with it until i got to T3. Soooo i would suggest nuying the cheapest one and playing through the low tiers until you get the hang of it...afterwards you can enjoy playing in a good high tier ship without getting your bottom handed o you ;) this is my suggestion but the final desition is yours

sail on captain!!! :honoring:

He said he is going to escort battleships :D

I really love t he intention and the optimism there but I give it 5 games and then you'll be bored with nothing to do as the battleships stay as far away from the fighting as they possibly can and you wont get to shoot at anything.

Great advice, thank you. And thanks to the others for chiming in.

I will definitely start out slowly. I learnt very quickly in WoT that one does not charge down the tiers and blast off down the middle of the map. . .Shot up before I even knew what was going on. For that reason the Sims ''scares'' me as at T7 I'd be up against quality captains.

Thank you for the link. Great reviews. A bit of a bloody nose for the Yubari.

The Grem does sound like a solid middle ground.

Is it that bad?

Hmm, maybe one of the destroyers would be the wisest way to get in then maybe I'll end up playing a heavily-gunned cruiser. Something that can fight alongside/escort BBs but also do its own thing (within reason)?

I agree, its pointless to worry about the choice. You get plenty of ships just playing and its not like they are drastically different stats wise to those, so you won't be missing out really.

I puzzled about it and eventually went for the Grem after watching youtubes and wanting to play (like you did). I'm now at the point where I have both the other tier V destroyers and I'm having so much fun with those that I haven't even gotten around to trying it yet. If I suddenly had it swapped for one of the others or even taken away entirely it wouldn't bother me in the slightest. There are plenty of other ships in the sea.

I have the Yubari and the Grem, and of those two, I'd definitely recommend the latter.

i would recommend the Gremyaschy.

its the most "new player friendly" ship of the three. kind of jack of all trades.

the Sims will just drop you in highest tier battles, as the new player facing the veterans it will be pretty short matches for you. (and your team may rage at you for being useless)

the Yubari looks nice, but it just lacks on the preformance. its AA strenght looks nice, but it wont help to save any battleships because you dont have that "AA buff" ability that higher cruisers get.

I have the 3 pack. Get the gremlin, it is on relatively low level (5), and has torpedoes comparable to IJN rangewise and guns which are pretty powerful... especially the AP against other DDs. The result is that with lucky torpedo hits you can farm a lot of credits, while also blasting smaller ships with gun. AA range is so short, that you do not even have to worry about turning it off in order not to get exposed by aircraft. Warning though, turrets rotate very slowly, so plan ahead in a firefight.

Yubari is my least favourite, since it is not good for anything except for some AA support, and it doesn't even have a good range for that either. Sims performs well, but being tier 7 means throwing you out into the higher tier games, so don't use it while learning the ropes.

Wait for the Warspite in a couple of days :P

I have the Gremlin (Gremyaschy), and its a beauty of a destroyer. Can't recommend it highly enough!

I don't like the gremy at all, short torp range, the guns are weak and the turn rate of the guns is awful, almost as slow as a battleship. A minor course correction and your cant shoot for several seconds even if you are loaded. Its fast and manoeuvrable but that's only good against idiots who cant aim and sail in a straight line.

Wot veteran of 30,000 game here.  I bought the three ship pack because everyone I tust except Silenstalker raved about the game.  The gold allows you to buy trained crews and some other premiums to find what you like before the wipe at the end of CBT.  I also bought it because there are Tier V and V ships as well as a VII.  I didn't wantt o make the mistake of leaping straight intio Tier VII games as a total noob.
