Surely this ship should be tier 2 rather than 3.  Every other tier 3 bb is a more advanced dreadnought with defensive AA? It is completely unable to defend itself from the air!

Dreadnought is extremely similar to Bellerophon but it is difficult to say Dreadnought is better, with less hp, less AA (not that Bel has much to speak of), less speed and less main gun range. Her advantages are only that she has better turning and reduced concealment, slightly thicker belt armor and a permanent camo.

However, nothing would justify a BB able to bring 8 guns to bear on a target being a tier 2, the standard set by the existing t2 BB Mikasa should make that apparent.

The thing you have to remember is that Dreadnought is a Premium ship, so any Royal Navy Commander can be dropped into the Captain's chair for seal-clubbing. Typically that means using a 19-point Captain for the job (to farm Elite Commander XP) with all the added perks of Basics of Survivability, Fire Prevention, and Concealment Expert.

The original iteration for super-testing had Dreadnought with a base 10.3km sea detection radius, and the old Concealment Expert skill (14%) could reduce that to 8.6km (with the extra 3% from camo). That meant that she had an ability to ambush unwary red cruisers showing broadside, go dark, and disengage quite quickly.

The second iteration reduced her speed from 21 knots to 19.01 knots, provoking much outrage and jokes over the lack of fidelity to the original. Her base concealment increased to the 12.26km we know today (10.2 with CE). On release her original 21.0 knot top speed was re-instated. The 0.8.0 update nerfed CE so her maximum concealment is *only* 10.7km.

Premiums are hard to balance because while base performance can be calculated there is going to be a wide disparity between a player who can use an optimal 19-point commander, and a player who cannot; not to mention the skill disparity between players. Is a ship over-powered, or over-performing? Konig Albert, the original Premium T3 battleship, is definitely over-powered and was removed from sale. Dreadnought is over-performing.

She is just one of the best performing Tier III BB in the game.

The AA on any Tier III BB is not much to speak of. I do not see a drawback there, especially since Tier IV CV are weak.

Thank you for the detailed explanation.  I just feel someone on board the ship when in battle with newer ships and aircraft carriers should be pointing something into the sky! I still maintain that this should be a tier 2 ship as it was revolutionary for its time!

Both ships have the same turning radius. Game show better number for Dreadnught, becouse it's calculated for max speed. As we know, the faster You are going, the more turning radious (past some speed).

Bellerophon radious: 560, speed: 22.5, ratio : 24,88

Dreadnought radious: 520 speed: 21, ratio: 24,76

So at the same speed, both ships, have probably 99% the same radious.

Generally premium BB is worse then silver part, becouse one thing: much shorter firing range. 13,7 km vs 15 km. Of course, we will not "snipe" in both of them, but there will be time when Bellerophon can still do damage, while other will not. 1.5 knots less is not helping to maximize DPM and survability eighter . Difference in camo at that tier means almost nothing anyway. And there is no AA ...

What to say ? Shi. premium (aka - port Queen), but at least She is fine to look at ;-)

Don't forget dreadnought also has an incredibly fast rudder shift time of 11.6 seconds compared to bellerophons excrutiating 11.7s rudder shift.
