Hello. Most of you don't know me. It's fine, I have grown used to it. I just want to propose something quick that might make ranked a bit more tolerable for people.

Right now, we have a start saving mechanic which I see both the benefits of and the problems with. On one hand, it allows for a player who plays exceptionally well on a team that does not do them justice to save a star. On the other hand, it promotes a certain kind of play that is not conducive to the health of the game. For a losing team, the carriers or Conquerors at the back of the map can keep stars because they can farm a lot of damage as the enemy team scrambles to kill them even if they did nothing but bloat up their team and allowed the members of the team more vital to victory to die first and therefore not save their star. If we took a poll though, I think that people on average perfer to at least have a chance to save a star compared to yoyoing constantly. I thought of a way to potentially fix this issue however.

Instead of saving the star when you lose, you instead get two types of stars. If you are on the winning team you get a golden star as usual. If you are at the top of the team list in the winning team however, you get a gold star AND a white star. Now the white star is not going to allow you to go up ranks. You still need to get the same number of stars to rank out. It's just something you accumulate. Every time you win and top your team, you gain a white star which gets accumulated in one part of your statistics. Whenever you lose however, the entire team loses a star instead of having the person at the top save theirs. If you have a white star however, it becomes a sacrifice and gets expended in lieu of the gold star. Every time you win and come first, you accumulate the 'right' to keep your spot at your rank. On average, this would mean that the same amount of golden stars is being lost each match.

In this system, those who play only to save the star at the detriment of their team will be heavily penalized as they will keep losing stars if they can't meaningfully contribute to their team's victory. Those who are shackled with bad teams as we all are occasionally will still be able to 'save' a star by burning through their excellent performance in other matches. With this system, those who parasitize off their team's infrequent victories by suffering few defeats will just end up sliding down the ranks. Those who perform exceptionally even on the willing team will be able to save their ranking. It also means that a person doesn't lose their rank just because they screwed up in one match and didn't make the XP for it on the losing team. Adjustments may need to be made. Maybe the first two members of the winning team get white stars. Maybe topping the team grants two white stars. The technicalities are unimportant, what is more important is that I believe that this is a system that will truly promote skill, benefit those who play for the team instead of just themselves, and ultimately make the game better for everyone.

Just make it simple, 2 stars for first by exp in winning team, one to all others at winning team and in loosing team everybody lose star. Or lets make it we vote after match who will save star.

Let's pick the easiest, most logical and effortless thing to do, and remove the "keep the star for the losing team".

It sounded like a awesome thing at start, but now it's only promoting bad teamplay like:"Oh crap, this team is losing 6v7, I better go to edge of map and farm battleships for xp." Especially this for CV's.

My idea would be to keep the current "save a star system" but not base it on xp. Every time you lose or win a ranked battle, you get a popup window where you HAVE to vote for 1 player on your team(not yourself) that gets to keep a star in case of a loss, or get 2 stars in case of a win. The person with the most votes get the reward.

Such a system would mean that the person that gets to save a star is decided purely by the impression he makes on his team. Theoretically, such a system would make everyone always play for the win, and be nice and helpful in chat.

The only downsides i can see would be how to get people to vote, and that people might abuse the system with strategic voting(Voting for the person who least deserve it, to spread the votes and hopefully get the most votes yourself)

@dasCKD and @thiextar

Game ends;

Window pops up;

You are given a choice between three (or two) best players in XP to vote for (vote for yourself if you are in the list - I think the other two in the list will do the same so it is indifferent);

If you don't vote in given time frame, vote goes to highest XP player;

Next window pops up = X saves a star. (it could be you)

This way you avoid the caveat of voting for a bad player so you get the star save.

Many other solutions could exist.

The OP however made a very good proposal.

Help the game and system by promoting good play not whatever we have now.

Warm regards

Saltface

Too much work for player induced selfish game play. Then again, it's human nature to preserve oneself before others.

As a side note:

Those that say "oh another CV that goes for damage" in chat. Are just not helping themselves, or understanding/reading the battle sequence. Unless the CV is not spotting, providing fighters, assisting in taking out the threat, etc. Then fine, go all out and say it.

However, I see too many players just saying that for the sake of saying it. With no basis from to accuse the CV player or their actions.

I've also realised it's usually the first/second player that died. That usually, starts to go chat crazy and snowball the CV hate for no valid reasons. Worse yet, with no valid reasoning other than their own bias towards that ship class. This is just unhealthy, no matter which way you cut it.

I am totally against a voting system:

Think of it: When you have endured a usual loss with the in your eyes the Noobiest team of Noobs you have ever seen and there are in your team you also should rely on that they understand your famous contribution to the good play in the catastrophe.

You want to rely on they being able to judge play?

I am in favor for cold hard data logic that at least makes us vent the frustration to that impartial computer/serverprogram rather than people, that may vote for a absolute crap player..
