Hey there,

Long time reader, first time poster. :cap_horn:

I would like to hear your opinion to following question:

I have bought the Arizona when it came out and recently got lucky with the Black Friday Container and got the Massachusetts B.

Since I'm playing mainly Nagato, Hermes and Gneisenau at the moment, I'm only at poor New York in the US BB tree.

I would like to lighten my grind and reduce it a little bit. So, what do you think, would you stop with the US BBs with Arizona and Massachusetts in port?

Thanks a lot.

Shikari

I heard the colorado is good and it gets better from there on in (although still bloody slow).

I gave up at the new pork too because it's fat and takes 10k years to turn. And can get rekt by a toineh baby with a 65mm gun on the beach for reasons.

I am at the New Mexico and actually quite enjoying it but I have been told Colorado is quite a step up.

I have Massachusetts as well but don’t actually play it that much in the new meta - it is so rare you get into good secondary range.

My favourite BBs at the moment are Gneisenau and Lyon as they play like big cruisers.

Depends what your captain situation is like, as the massachusets requires a dedicated captain with 18 points to really shine, but the skills you need on massachusets wont fit any other american battleships.

This means that you will need to grind two commanders, one for the tech tree line, and one specifically for the massachusets.

I can heartly recommend massachusets tho, full secondary spec with ifhe is amongst the most fun you can have in this game, and it will net you tons of credits.

The us bbs get a lot better than the New York.

I would recommend that you at least grind to t8 to get the North Carolina. It's very maneuverable has good concealment and very accurate guns. It's also much faster than the previous ships in the line.

The Iowa and the Montana are also quite good ships to follow.

The Colorado has good guns but due to its speed you have to accept that you won't be able to keep up with events on the other side of the map. You have to pick a side and stick to it.

All in all I don't think you've experienced everything the us bbs have to offer until you get to tier 8

eew, i hated it, after 1 game :cap_haloween:

For me, i liked NY and NM, but thats long time ago, i dont think they are that good anymore these days. Colorado i "skipped" because i got the NC from a Container. NC is awesome if you can handle the slow shells, and they hit like a truck.

Iowa and Monty are good too, and for Monty i definetely think its worth going for (and NC as a keeper too)

For me i want to bin the new pork, smoll, smelly and gets citadelled by the he queen herself kgv from teh front.

i might try the new mexico, but i think im too used to the fast playstyle of other ships at this point.

USN battleships starts with North Carolina, until then you have extra slow glass cannons, soaking HE shells left right center and diagonal as well being overmatched by newer additions across pretty much entire hull.

Will inevitably will lead to excellent frustration exercise, which may or may not trigger you to open wallet and Free Exp your way through :cap_tea:

Though you can grind them in Operations, New Mexico 12gun salvo can prove handy as well 406mm guns on Colorado.

Colorado is glorious. Easily the best BB I have ever played.

I always have had special hatred against NC. With Colorado guns, I would probably like it.

Why have you not joined a clan if only for the XP - a number of clans are simply lone wolf units but they speed up the grind.

Their slowness and inaccuracy at distance do not make them a favorite Operations ship type for me. In fact they are not so very different from the new RU BB, or German BB at the same tier....all spray shells about and you are lucky one of them hits.

Battlecruisers* - US don't have any at T6/T7 - are far better at that, and most players seem to prefer light and heavy  cruisers for operations, although DD can do very well too.

BB are good for drawing fire so bots don't execute the allies or allied escort transports. They are usefull.....i am sure some players can make them perform, but overall they are pretty meh in operations.

* I consider ships like the Dunkerque battlecruisers too.

US BB's shine when you get to North Carolina, with good speed and some of the best AA (pre-CV rework) in the game. Iowa is even better, with high speed and decent guns/AA (pre-CV rework). Haven't reached Montana yet, so can't comment on her. They are painful up to Colorado, but more tolerable at the lower levels as most other BB's are equally slow. Unfortunately, the USN gets its fast battleship one tier higher than everyone else. Overall, you can pause the USN BB grind if you like, but don't give up on it.

Couldn't have described my first year in WoWs any better!

With Republique being in the game, I cant say any longer that Colorado is the best BB i ever played.

Republique offer many of the same qualities at tier X that Colorado offered at tier 7...and does so with speedboost! :cat_cool:

Colorado is too low, and the Republique needs to be the Alsace, she might be the only tier X ship that I sell, how people play her in ranked I do not know, i sold the gascan for the exact same reason, lack of turrets, shame really as the Dunkurque, Richelieu and JB I can make work.

Im speccing meme: http://shipcomrade.com/captcalc/1000000000000010000010001010100019

Full-meme-secondary build works soo well on massachusets as long as you can get into good secondary positions, which isnt always easy, but if you can make it work, that ship is sooo strong. Ive held a 72% winrate over 100 battles with that build.

While the Colorado is a decent enough ship it's so slow compared to similar tiered ships - and yes I do realize that is common to USA BBs to that tier.  I've been bottom tier in the Colorado and been spawned on a flank by mysef and the ship is to slow to even get to the middle of the map before being spotted (even when not sailing towards the enemy to swap flanks).

For me the the line improves a lot with the North Carolina.

I have had the Alabama in my dock for quite a while and have used her to train up my BB captain.  I did get the Massachusetts in a container recently and while I know it needs a specialist captain I've kept the NC captain on her (he is only a level 16 captain at the moment).

My first BB grind way back then..

You cant go wrong with the American BB line.  It fairs even better in this rework as their AA is very good and the Monty is still a solid pick in CB and Randoms.

It's all about medium range and long support, not close support, not sniping, but long range cruiser support.

2 of my fav ships are US BB's.  Texas (AA.lol) and Massachusetts (pure fun).  I loved the Alabama but when i got the Massa, i haven't took it out since.

They are reliable solid ships.  Good accuracy on the whole with hard hitting guns.  Floatly shells (which can work to your advantage) but good on the whole. Now planes have gone up, US BB's are more appealing.

The thing with all the US lines, even to this day, are IMHO base line ships.  You play them to get a feel for anything as they can do a bit of everything.  You can then go off to specialise in different types of gameplay that fit your style.

But the best ships in the game for a support player, is any of the US lines.

Hi guys. Can anybody tell me what the recent build options for a North Carolina are and how they work out under the current meta?

I saw on shipcomrade that FP & AFT are pretty popular compared to the more CB oriented stealth build with FP & CE. Also I am curious about your experiences with the AA mod vs. range mod. Any recent "gut data" is appreciated.

Well, no planes in CB so makes sense.

Nevertheless FP & AFT will give you only a bit of air - meaning the CV will get you anyway once your HP drains below 70%.

And they are quite useless when there is no CV ingame, which happens.

Arizona is all but useless and completely unfun in the carrier-contaminated meta.

Mass is fun for a good brawler.

Up to Colorado, the US line is definitely tedious because they are so slow. Then again, do you really need speed any more? It's a blobby campy carrier meta and their AA is good.

It all depends on what you want in the end. For Clan Battles, the NC would probably be better, and the next-but-one season should be back to tier X anyhow. Tier VIII in Randoms is also the worst tier matchmaking wise, constantly uptiered.

Yeah, the step up from Colorado to NC feels like the ship got much better, but guns didn't. NC guns aren't terrible, but shell velocity does matter, especially when you have targets that actually pay attention.

T8 isn't really worse off than T5 or T6 most of the time, except that T8 ships get the tools to handle the MM they get, T5-7 is screwed across all classes if they get +2 MM.
