What do you think are the most valuable players in a team now if they play for the team and don't go solo farming.

Now? They always have been.

Difference between then and now is that solo farming IS how CVs "teamplay" nowadays.

It can be anyone that makes others follow and breaks through the enemy line that collapses there. Or it can be the DD or CV that makes such a breakthrough possible by removing enemy strenght there.

Good CV players at higher tiers can determine the outcome of a game, but it does depend on the builds of other players.   Anti-AA destroyers are a nightmare for CVs.

I noticed in tier X matches where there are 4 tier X DD a  tier 8 CV or even double CV ( or even tier X aircraft like the Saipan )  is unable to stop the DD and some break through on purpose to kill the CV's, and they will succeed if the CV has no allied help.

Tier X DD are quite the little armoured cruisers......Tier 8 CV rockets have almost no effect on them, the best weapon seems to be AP bombs of all weapons. And the rate they kill CV with their cannons at range is quite alarming too, as if most T8 CV have no armoured belts..... It is hard to stop 1 of them......4 of such butcher whole teams once their adversary DD are gone or play bad. Extremely dangerous class if run rampant.

Many cruisers seem to have forgotten their anti-DD role as well.

What like the Kebab? All the others have 19-21 mm (pretty sure there is some DD parts with 21 mm, could be wrong. Or maybe that was CV's) so rockets from tier 6 CV's and up shred them all equally hard. The difference beeing that you get more rockets and higher damage the higher you go.

- 3x DD`s in a capture circle

- 2x Mino`s in smoke, in central map position

- 3x Shimakaze Trio

- DD`s which burn down one or several ships with HE spam ( spamming BB`s with HE is best )

- Players which do an undetected sneak to a CV and sink it, then eating other team members from the backyard

- Players in any ship which cap

- Players in any ship which seek AA ships escort

Any of this combined with a good CV player on the team = Nails for the coffin

until tier 7 its DD over CV, above its CV over DD..

Most games had been 4 CV games today, there was only 1 in 14 games when I played crap and underestimated the CV. All other games CVs had been neither a significant factor to my gameplay nor for the outcome of the game on neither side.

solo, dd only

Always been, Carriers were never balanced in this stupid game. That s why high tier carriers were always restricted to 1 per team.

I have met strangely effective AA DD at some occasions but they are very rare........it is more their ability to withstand rocket attacks and take very little damage that worries me in tier IX-X DD.

Rockets are a bit of a 2-bladed sword. On the one hand they are the only thing a DD has a chance to shoot down since (at least IJN ones) need to fly straight for quite a while to get a reasonable amount of hits,

on the other hand they are the fastest, utterly sh*t on DDs dmg-wise and are easy to land even for potatos like me.

A good CV player has always been the most valuable player, although it's different from RTS in how it works you can easily see the effect on a battle when one team has a good CV captain and the other has a bad CV player.

I‘ll state, that in the upcoming ranked season mostly the DD will be the deciding factor.

Probably not played much, it will shift the momentum to the team of that DD which is able to outplay the other and give the team a cap edge midgame with the the accumulating points working like a sword of Damocles forcing the other team to make moves they wouldn’t without the forcing factor. Just like in most ranks before.

Most games will be decided on points, killing full enemy team will be an exception.

Gonna be interesting..

As for where the good players are the most important - this basically boils to impact. Generally speaking, CVs are the most impactful but not by as big of a margin as they used to (there are outliers and some of them claim to be even more powerful than they used to but, normally, the impact of a CV is lower than it used to be). DDs are second but this is situational (depends on the number of DDs, the presence of CVs, the number of enemy Radars, the game mode). As for BBs and cruisers - it depends on the situation which are more important.

As for who you need teamplay for the most, this doesn't necessarily follow the same logic. CVs currently are limited in their supporting potential - they can drop you fighters to deter the enemy CV occasionally, they can sometimes spot a DD - but their main focus is on dealing damage anyway. That's what they are good at. Sure, it's good to have a CV that thinks about the team, but the difference between a competent damage farmer and competent team player is smaller in CVs than most other classes. They aren't even that good at focusing fire together with the rest of the team - their target selection is limited by enemy AA, so if the intended target is with friends, the CV will probably have to look for someone else to strike because a drop is either not worth it or outright impossible.

DDs have more teamplay options but even they are quite limited. A competent selfish DD won't be that much less useful than a competent teamplayer.

Ultimately, if I were to pick the general order:

If I could pick one ship and make sure that the player inside is competent, my priorities would be:

1. CV (if t10 or t8 and not bottom tier, at least)

2. DD

3.,4. BB,CA/CL (depends on situation and match-up)

If I could pick one ship and make sure the player inside is at least somewhat competent but, above all, consciously plays for the team rather than for farm, my priorities would be:

1. CA/CL

2. BB

3. DD

4. CV

As for the second list, I assume a minimal level of competence in their intended plystyle. For example: DD is below BB because a DD damage farmer needs to still get in front of the team, doing quite some "teamplay" DD job "accidentally". A BB that just farms tends to play campy, being of no use for the team. A competent farmer in a DD is thus more useful for the team than a competent farmer in a BB. An utterly incompetent AND selfish DD ends up suiciding or sailing too far away from the enemy - in both cases they end up being utterly useless while a really bad BB can sometimes at least draw some fire away from more useful allies.

Problem is that <good> CV players are not as good in other ships. Is obviously the ship, not the player.

Love rocketing DD’s to death. It’s easy mode in USN and IJN CV’s. Implacable seems to really screw DD’s with rockets also.
