anyone else NOT playing anymore thanks to carriers?

each now and then i come back to the game, because i spent LOTS of money on it, and because i still find it occasionally fun.

the problem is, due to my unconventional working hours, i can mostly play in the morning. and - if you never hade the pleasure - each and every game has 4 carriers in it (in the afternoon i found that the situation is marginally better - maybe because there are more proper players, dunno)

and every time i come back i discover i'm sick of this idiotic gameplay, with endless waves of planes buzzing around, no way to hit back or to slow down those relentless waves of flying skill.

the times i have actually fun with this game (in games with no CVs or when the skillboat players are really too poor to affect gameplay) are getting way too sporadic for my tastes, and the less you play the less you enjoy playing, it goes without saying.

so, another WoT/arty situation (slightly better because with carriers you have the illusion of being able to do something about it, worse because you can't, really - at least SPGs were killed by some bold light tank attack, sooner or later. carriers always go home unscathed). and god knows if WG couldn't learn from their mistakes to save their lives.

i'm curious to know if there's anyone else in my situation...

Nopes, still playing just as much as before. They are sometimes a tad overwhelming (especially if there are 3 in a team) but can still be dealt with. You just need to pick the right ship and get plenty of practice. Of course, it IS annoying that this sudden abundance of CV's tends to restrict my ship choices to mainly those with a strong AA for the time being. But hoping that'll change. :cap_old:

well, the web is full of people who enjoy trolling forums and chats, so i guess it's the same with games.

I tried the "new" carriers and i didn't like the gameplay at all and prefer the old ones. There are some cases and battles where you are just hopeless and in several i just saw that DD's or CA/BB's just lost 1/4 of their HP just after 1 or 2 minutes ingame. much balance However this does not happens all the time and yes it's a pain in the [edited]that the infinite amount of planes are kinda dumb and in a double CV match where both CV's are top tier (e.g. T8) you just hope that your CV's are better (Spoiler: doesn't happen so often). But it's not so hopeless and everything is so crap like everyone says. Yes the CV's are a disease, Yes Big E is OP, Yes AA is not so effective like before the rework. I just hope WG will maybe use their brains and at least try to fixing it.

Spoiler

Those are 2 examples where i shot down plane after plane, but it just doesn't matter, when the CV wants you dead it will happen.

i wonder if every person who posts one of these whiny threads thinks "my thread will be the one to get rid of CVs and definitely wont be closed down in 2 hours and laughed at by everyone"

There are always people who complain about something.

Server stats clearly show that people like ulcus are a small minority.

@ulcusrodens the only way to understand a CV is to play CV. I usually delay playing new ships untill the hype goes down and the MM queue normalize, but I have started playing CVs recently... Had fair amount of amazing games but most of the time I wondered why my damn team evaporated in few minutes, not killed by CV but by other ground ships because doing stupid things and since now I know CV mechanics I feel more confident in ground ships when there is a CV in play.

Try it! You may enjoy it.

no. i'm sympathethic with your dislexy problems, but had you managed to gather enough brainpower to get to the end of my post, you'd have spared the resources you wasted to be brilliant.

And there in lies my current dilemma. I have lines I want to grind, but some are just to painful with poor AA, to have fun in, with all the CV's around if you go out alone.

The best way to cope at the moment seems to be to div up, and take a well balanced group of ships. At least then you can have fun and progress the grinds.

The really frustrating thing is CV player inequality. If the enemy CV captain(s) know what they are doing, while yours don't, the influence CV's can have on a battle is really shown, and that's really the only time I get annoyed by CV's.

well, glad for servers and for WG. my personal experience is that in every battle with no CV, the chat typically goes on like this for the first minute:

"wow! at f**** last!"

"great! no carriers! we can have fun"

"thank god no carriers!"

and so on.

maybe playing CVs you don't get that particular angle.

AND i'm not sure if i'm part of a small minority either. server populations are declining slowly but steadily. and the fact that WG is putting 45 new premiums and stuff each month is a sign that income is not as high as they'd like it to be

This is objectively untrue. Server population has remained stable all throughout the rework despite my best efforts to change that.

As can be seen here:

i tried it some year ago and found it abysmal. i know the half-[edited]RTS mode has given place to a half-[edited]planes-on-rails mode, but the fact is, CVs disrupt gameplay. and i don't want to be part of the problem, even if i'm pretty sure they can be difficult and thus even interesting to play.

they're born to do it in real life too - basically carriers put an end to conventional maritime warfare, so it's not a big surprise.

True all dat. I still play solo quite a bit but what I do is that I'll imprint myself on the nearest appropriate ship. For example, if i am in an Atlanta, I will look for the nearest probable first target and follow it within 3-4km range - Just enough to intervene, when they get attacked. :cap_rambo:

On the other hand IF I against all good sense and reason (and this happens also) decide to take a ship that has relatively weak AA, like my Hydro-nonAA specced-Mogami (yeah, I'm a masochist) I WILL be the one looking for nearest Atlanta or Cleveland and glue myself next to it, just c lose enough so they can give me a hand if ever. Sometimes it works too but it is challenging to play that way, always looking over your shoulder and checking where the nearest support ship might be at the moment. A great incentive boost to practice  that much talked about "teamplay" though. :cap_look:

I didn't like the RTS either, RTS is not my thing. The new one are quite different.

I still have the opinion that the game will be better without this class, but since it won't happen, the best 2nd thing is to understand it.

well to be honest, nobody will miss any of "leavers" casue WG got new guys in who love game as it is now and not as it was xy months/years ago.

there's just one small problem.

now teamplay means more or less forming the thickest AA blob possible while staying out of capzones and DDs (but they nerfed AA summation because the "OHMYGAWD NERF AA" choir from the CV boys, by the way), and that has another, less pleasant name. CAMPING.

it's undeniable, most single ships have no effect on planes. so - if i'm playing my GK, for example. i have to hug the montana in my team (if there's one) instead of doing my GK stuff. this leads to a flatter, more static gameplay.

You do realize all time stats are kinda irrelevant to the rework, no?

Also starting around June 2017 player numbers have in fact remained stable aside from the typical influx/decline at the end of the year due to new years events. That's actually pretty good player retention over two years.
