Stat shamers and toxic behaviour. Why is this allowed ?

@MrConway  stated this should be a welcoming community.

 

Yet when someone has an opinion, or want to discuss a tactic he is met with "Shut up you are a wall of red stats" or "Listen to better players" with or without actually making screens of someones stats, with intent of "stat shaming" or derating that playerm attempting to make his words without value.

 

Is this welcoming ? Is that a nice community ?  Or is it toxic bahaviour derating and belittling anyone that cannot flare pink stats ? Is this the purpose of stats ?

 

I think it is very toxic behaviour ruiining forum enjoyment. It is also a standard buch of hardcore individuals that do this. Prisioners of their own pink stats, they seem to need vent their frustrations on others.

 

This behaviour should stop and it would be best to actually BAN everyone displaying or citing  someone elses stats out without that player agreeying with this. This would make the forums less toxic and the moderators less busy and irritated. And it is not a proposed new rule, it is the forum rules.

 

Players should be able to express what they want to say without getting a band of stat shamers react with a string of insults, derating, stat shaming and what not. If you do not stroke their feathers the right way - and God forbid - go against them it's even worse. Whole topics get filled with bickering because of this.

 

It is a bit worrying that this seems to be reviewed as "normal" anyway. But maybe this forum is not what it seems....lets have a little poll what forum members think is normal......

Stats show if a player knows what he's talking about or not. They can be used to validate opinions. For example I wouldn't want advice from some 45%wr player trying to tell me how to play but if a 60%wr player gave some advice that would be backed up and validated by his stats which prove his advice works. Anyway why are you getting so offended, if you don't like people stat shaming then don't talk to people. You can't expect to come on the Internet and try to change how people view things or how they talk to people. That's the beauty of freedom of speech.

No because it then isn't a welcoming forum but a very hostile one to all but blue/pink stat players. It is in fact discrimination.

 

I am sure WG would not like this very much as red/orange/yellow  stat players could and probably are customers too.........as for myself i payed WG a sizable sum of money on premium ships - which i enjoy a lot - and premium account. Would WG like customers like me to be chased off by some hardcore (stat) griefers ? Think not...

But your problem is not that , if you are shame by your stats , fix them by playing better ..

To be honest, most "stat shaming" is used to point out that a poster has a distorted view of reality (well, within the realm of the game at least). For example, if I were to claim that AA is underwhelming while having an average plane kill number of 33 per game, it would not be of any use to argue with me since I'm clearly too biased. But I'm not sure why I bother pointing this out since you are one of these players who refuse to take in any information which doesn't come from yourself or your own experiences.

I've probably put 5 times the amount of money you have into this game. WG don't care about induvidual putting money into the game who go on the forums. The vast majority of their profits come from people who probably don't even know the forums exist.

So in practice, that means what? I should pretend to listen to bad players with bad advice and factually incorrect opinions just to not burst their bubble?

There is no distorted reality in actual displaying my stats without my permission, or citing them without my permission. Yet it is done many times. I want that to stop right here because is is against forum rules and it is making the forum unwelcome to anyone but a "blue/pink stat" status.

I don't do this, but from what I see, it's not so much shaming as it is proving a point. 

People don't just randomly pull up statistics for the sake of putting others down - more for arguments sake. 

 

That isn't to say there aren't some assholes around who stat bash others for no reason other than sad self-gratification, but for the most part it isn't like that in here.

all this red potatoes with 30% winrate und PR of sub 400 died their way up without willing to learn a BIT of this game. and exactly such players ruin the fun for the whole team.

I'm fully in agreement that people shouldn't be "stat shamed" purely for being bad. This game is open to everyone regardless of ability.

 

However, all to often I see people both on the forum and in game mouthing off when a quick glance at their stats reveals that the emperor is in fact not wearing any clothes.

Ofc we shouldnt dismiss anyones opinion based on what their stats are showing. But most of the time, its so far off that any real arguement would be futile (even tho it would be the correct way to argue about something), simply because the other one wouldnt even accnowledge it.

So basicly, if you invalidate the other persons arguement, there is atleast a chance that other people reading those posts wont fall into a trap by believing the nonsense somebody wrote.

 

And still, if you dont want to be statshamed, maybe it would be good to stop that behaviour yourself first

First observation is that options 1 and 3 in the poll are not necessarily mutually exclusive.

 

Altogether, as with so many things in life, this is a question of nuances. Yes, everyone is welcome to post. However, if one is not a particularly good player (hello, it's me *waves*), one should have the self-awareness to either not put forward advice on tactics etc., or at least preface it with an appropriate disclaimer, and probably defer to the opinions of the more skilled of they're (almost) all saying that what you're doing is wrong. When it comes to discussions of changes, events, and maybe even mechanics (it is, I think, possible to understand the mechanics well and just fail at applying that knowledge successfully), then have at it.

 

Equally, it's incumbent on good players to be patient with not-so-good players at first and not jump down their throats immediately. But obviously everyone's patience has a limit and if someone fails to take well-meant, patiently given advice on board, or if they e.g. create their first post on the forums whining about the fire mechanics and emanding it's all changed to accommodate them after a whole 400 games, well, we're back to the need to have some self-awareness.

Thats not the point.

It was a general recommendation. Just think about it. The fact that you answered instantly not grasping what I wrote underlines my statement pretty well.

You make a poll about something there can not be 2 opinions about in a civilized and ethically acting community.

For the well of yourself settle and think about it..

 

besides:

Stats shaming and bullying is not ok there is no discussion about it.

As in life it's very probable that there is always somebody who might be better than oneself and could say about oneself what oneself says about others stat-shaming them.

In this game (on the european side) there are less than 20 people who might be in the position to stat-shame others, but they won't for some reason.
