General: communication

 

The first thing that needs to be done, in my opinion, and from what I've seen many people agree with me, is an improvement in communication.

I have already suggested a dedicated WG EU community representative, if need be on a trial basis, for instance by moving people around.

If WG EU has the personnel to cover all games simultaneously, then what does it matter if one person is the go-to person for WoWs?

More in general, I feel WG should announce it plans much further in advance.

Which branches are they working on?
Which direction are they thinking of taking the game?

Which ships or game mechanics are they working on?

Moreover, I feel WG should interact with us more, especially here on the forum.

Once plans become more solid, they should ask us for feedback, give us an opportunity to discuss them.

So much more could be done with the feedback from the community, to make sure the product delivered is something we want.

Once plans are crystallized, they should be announced: properly, timely, and most of all, clearly.

It would help to keep the player base engaged, to build hype for things we all like, and help WG to adjust plans in a timely fashion when there are things we don't like, before a lot of time, effort and money is spent on them.

 

Please note that this feedback is intended as constructive and not to start off a discussion in this thread, please either like if you agree, or discuss in a separate thread.

Nice idea!

 

GRAPHICS

In game (i know its not so important) but i would love a specific animation for a detonated ship. A battleship which is detonated should light up the whole sky and have an epic rumbling explosion. That way when im detonated/detonate someone i can sit back and marvel at the pyrotechnics. I know its a rare event but this would be great and like the exploding lids in world of tanks.

Matchmaker Rank System

Similiar to CS GO if anybody is familiar with it.

You get a higher rank if you win against/kill players that are higher rank than you. You loose rank when you are killed/lost against lower rank enemies. Matchmaker only allows you to play within +/- 2 levels of your rank.

Yes i know it will cause everybody to average 50% wr but this game isn't about getting high win ratio. It's about having good games. Noobs won't enjoy being sealclubbed all the time, pros don't enjoy being forced to play with noobs in their team. In cs go this system works great, though some people intencionally loose to sealclub at lowel ranks. Though it's marginal. I'm just wondering if there's enought players for this kind of mm.

An app for World of Warships as there is a great one for world of tanks and its a pity we dont have one here too. 

 

The world of tanks app is amazing, and i recommend if any of you play that and own a mobile phone download it. It has detailed specs on all the tanks and individual stats for your tanks, also news etc. Its a great companion to the game and when you are bored and away from work you can check up on whats going on.

Gameplay: New (historical) game modes

 

One thing that would be a very welcome addition to this game, especially to a history nerd like me, would be game modes that make more sense.

No navy ever won a naval battle by going to a random location at sea and staying there for a while.

I feel that it is certainly not impossible to implement something that is more historically correct, without making the game too difficult.

Just because this is an arcade game does not mean that we need to rule out certain things in advance.

I'll add all of these suggestions in one post, instead of splitting them up, because I would be happy with even just one (1) of these being implemented.

Moreover, I am only making suggestions here, of what I feel could be done, in hope that it will inspire other people, here on the forum or at WG, to come up with something even better/easier to implement.

 

Decisive battle - a.k.a. 'Deathmatch'

 

The simplest thing to introduce would be to just have one condition for winning: simply doing more damage than the enemy.

This condition is already in the game, all it would take is for the other condition to be removed (cap points).

As stated, capping just makes no sense in real life.

 

 

Dreadnought mode - a variant of Decisive battle, but only for Dreadnoughts, as in the Battle of Jutland

 

One problem in this game is the huge number of battleships at times.

One way to deal with that is to let them fight as it was intended.

Let them fight in a line of battle, against an enemy line of battle.

Or just put a lot of low-tier BBs (without post WW1 upgrades!) in a battle and let them duke it out.

I for one would find this a ton of fun.

If need be, allow at least a few cruisers and/or destroyers into the mix.

 

Axis versus Allies

 

One thing that bothers me more than it should, is that we fight alongside our enemies.

It sometimes freaks me out that my HMS Edinburgh or HMS Belfast ends up alongside a 'friendly' Scharnhorst.

These ships were designed as each other's adversaries.

Dunkerque, for instance, was specifically designed to chase the Deutschland class 'pocket battleships', while the Scharnhorst class was designed to defeat them, the Richelieu class was then designed to defeat them.

It makes no sense to have these ships side by side.

So a game mode where you are put in a team alongside with 'Allied' or 'Axis' ships, would be great!

It is so much fun as a RN cruiser to chase down a German warship. :izmena:

 

 

Convoy Escort / Convoy raiding

 

Many naval battles involved either around escorting ships to their destination, or trying to interdict them.

The Battle of the Atlantic, the convoys to Murkansk and the Tokyo Express are famous instances of this.

Perhaps better suited for two smaller teams, one team would work to protect as many cargo ships as possible, while another would work to intercept as many of them, without incurring too much damage themselves.

Game ends when all cargo vessels are sunk, all warships on one team are sunk, or time runs out.

Perhaps add a port where cargo ships are safe and where land-based aircraft prowl the skies to top it off.

This one would require a lot more work, but it is already being worked on for PvE and I just don't see why it should be PvE content only.

If it only becomes PvE content, then I'd like more XP rewards, on par with PvP.

 

 

Historical battle scenarios

 

Perhaps for specific ships, historical battle scenarios could be implemented.

Say, you own either an HMS Hood (not in the game yet), HMS Prince of Wales (not in the game yet, but sometime this year, right?), or Bismarck, or Prinz Eugen, or HMS Norfolk (not in the game yet, not announced) or HMS Suffolk (same).

If you own any one of these ships, you can click an option: Battle of Denmark Strait.

Together with other people who have any one or more of those ships, you get put in a battle until all slots are filled.

You start in something resembling the authentic positions of these ships, then try to sink all enemy ships.

Perhaps add a zone where you can 'retreat' and if you reach it with a floating ship, or x amount of HP and/or x amount of repairs left, and you win the battle.

This option could be added to any more historically accurate game modes, it makes no sense to have a fixed barrier that you can't cross and which will slow down your ship, unless it is a shoreline.

 

Something like this has been discussed, but again, only as PvP content.

I'd play HMS Hood anytime, with and without 100% no detonation flag, and I am sure many with me. :honoring:

 

 

Naval assault - improved/reinvented Bastion mode

 

When Bastion mode was announced, I was happy.

I was hoping it would resemble something like a coastal bombardment, as those done by the Germans against British coastal towns in WW1, or by the Allies in WW2, to soften up the beach for a landing.

What we got instead is yet another variant on 'capping', which makes no sense.

How about a game mode where the forts from Bastion mode have a logical function?

Where one side of a team has to reduce the forts, the other side has to defend them?

Or where one side has to land troops on an island or coast protected by a fort and the other has to prevent that?
If need be, give us bastion mode, with each side starting with one island with one fort.

The side that gets x HP of ships into a bay next to the enemy fort 'lands' troops and takes the enemy island.

Game ends when one side has both islands or there are no ships left on one of the two teams.

Extra points if it is Axis versus Allies as well. :medal:

A couple of very simple suggestions:

 

  • Can we have the replay system enabled in the client rather than requiring us to modify the preferences.xml file and improved into something more usable (I'm fairly sure the YouTube guys would be especially pleased with this).

 

  • Can we have some way of continuing the battle chat post game, this might improve game-play overall if players get the opportunity to discuss what they did and why.

As stated, capping just makes no sense in real life. Disagree with this one a LOT Capping makes sense and is real. 2 Two Examples... Battle of River Plate and Jutland.. In both cases Germany won the engagement in damage dealt and Loss of life.. However in both cases the German ships were forced to Flee to port, UK won the battle by forcing the Enamy force of the sea (capped if you will) . But a no cap kill all would just turn in to both fleets hanging back waiting

Love the idea of this one!! I have said before i wish they had started CV at tier 6 not 4 and Tiers 2-5 was at latest 1918 vintage ships with no post war Modifications

Like the idea but again balance is an issue. In your example you point to Dunkerque,  Deutschland class 'pocket battleships', while the Scharnhorst class was designed to defeat them, the Richelieu class was then designed to defeat them. again problems with balance as the counter was almost always built to out class the ship it was designed to go against in every way... would take some work but is doable

 

 

Convoy Escort / Convoy raiding

 

The Programming is there.. Ref Halloween missions. And the game model is also there Ref. PASX9004 and Cimarron models... Like this one

 

 

Historical battle scenarios

 

MMM they tried this in tanks.. Historical battles are hard to balance

Land based AI controlled aircraft

What I always wanted was land based AI controlled aircraft that harasses players with High Altitude Bombing or HE dive bombing. This way ships (especially cruisers) with good AA or specced to have good AA will always have some use even if there is no CV in the match. Also it would make players group up more to focus their AA fire and that way play with more teamwork. This would of course need some tweaking, like DDs should almost never get attacked since it could spot them and many DDs plays best ahead or away from the rest of the team. Historically I think this is also very cool since for example Stukas were a big part of the whole Atlantic engagements and B17/25 a big part of the pacific theatre. I mean wouldn't you want to hear the Jericho trumpets sing as AA guns fire in all directions or see a B17 fly through a cloud of black flak smoke or see a B25 skip bombing a convoy you are escorting (yeah this ties into the whole Convoy escort/raiding thing as well). Now this could be limited to certain tiers and/or maps of course.

 

whoa, I really hate topics like this, because it gets my hopes up way to much. I end up spending way too much time thinking about something that'll never happen. Still with WG overlooking this thread I wanted to give it a go.

Because it´s the most annoying thing when some salty guy writes to you after the battle just to insult you to the last. 

And that option would just support that.

Dunkerque ships on deck in the wrong position compared to historical location that did not block the secondaries as much from firing forward.

how about decreasing the capture point gain to 2 per tick in domination? i found that domination games are over so much quicker than standard battles. so often there are still many ships alive at the end of the game.

i personally prefer domination mode over all others. fighting over cap zones is alot of fun but when one team has 3 points the game´s over in 8-10 minutes...

Standard battles end slower because people do not feel pressure and camp. If they would decrease the tick count, then the teams would push even less then they do now. 

 

This games has sooo many new players, or players with a limited skill set, that often the team who has some skill advantage (especially DD's) win faster. Why make it slower and more painful then just make changes to the MM system? 

 

I get that WG tries to help new players, but help them in their own corner (something like the school system - kindergarten - primary school - high school - college - unicums). Make it more interesting, make it people want to get better and more team oriented. 

 

A below-average player either rushes and dies fast (hence losing points for the team) or lays in the back waiting for some lucky shots and farming some damage. 

 

I was (still am) a bad player, but trying to learn from experience, from my mistakes, often get wiped because i overcommit in my DD's, but my primary objective is to help the team win, by getting points, damage and kills are extra. 

 

So my suggestion : IN THE NEAR FUTURE - TRY TO IMPROVE MM BY A RANK SYSTEM - YOU HAVE A BASE - RANKED - HELP US GET LESS FRUSTRATED. (yes, i sometimes get frustrated, because of me, because of my teams).

Remember choice of currency (i.e. silver vs doubloons) used when buying premium consumables so they don't revert back to doubloons every time. Please.

I've got automatic resupply enabled, and I've disabled "use in game credits to purchase" thing. Each time I want to manually buy a premium consumable, it tries to trick me into using doubloons.

This is extremely annoying.

Wow! I stumbled upon this thread. must have missed it somehow. Wonderful done OP!

 

What I would love to see are more different color palets for the cammo's. Don't want to use mods for that. IMO the palets given are godafwully ugly. Especially the WW1 era ships in the "green baret landscheme staints!" I for one would really love to see them in the paterns like Emden....

A friend of mine wanted the AA to work as the secondary. You know, instead of having a 360° degree DPS gun will only open fire if they have the angle to do so.

 

Well, that's not that clear... Isn't it?

Insert some player skill stats into the MM (however light they are).

 

Better yet: never do something so retarded. Even now, with no such system, people periodically spawn tinfoil whines about getting burdened by bad players in attempt to keep their own well deserved winrate down. Imagine the frustration if MM really did just that, trying to keep everyone at 50% winrate by giving good players better opponents and worse teammates to create evenly matched (by skill) teams...
