Same goes for this event - if you play as usual, you still can contribute few stars to the effort and again help out the clan. 

So in short,... this clan system is just another way to boost your income / discounts etc.
So to join a clan is to help yourself .... 
Not actually forced to join the clan system but as long as you don't.... you can't get the cookies!

This is what I mean.
Your clan system should be about clan wars!
filled with dedicated "clan"-players .
Not about to lure players into "clan-tag" by a hidden way to get items cheaper. so it only looks as if the game has many clans

See it as you like it,... I lost respect for clan players since I learned this side of the clans....
What a bummer to know many "clan"players are not clan-players at all.

The goodies are being distributed as we speak, but since there's quite a LOT of them, it may take some time (seems the camos are going out first, the containers should follow) - but they will get to the Deserving™

Update: Looking into The System it would seem all prizes were distributed among the crew overnight. Definitely got mine  (yes, WG clan also managed to get 10 stars or more )
