Royal Navy Tier VII - HMS Formidable?

Ok so I think we can (mostly) agree that if WG are doing a tier 7 RN Carrier it's going to be a Illustrious Class with the Ark Royal as a Tier 6 or 7 Premium. I really want to see HMS Formidable appear in game for personal reasons and that it fought for some of the hardest yards in WW2 which left it badly battered and beyond repair by the end of the war. It fought at Cape Matapan where it crippled the Vittorio Veneto and the Pola, participated in the evacuation of Greece only to be hit by two 1000lb bombs from JU88's.  It got patched up and got sent to the Indian Ocean to provide top cover for the invasion of Diego Suarez then sailed back to the Med to take part in Operation Torch and operation Husky, sinking U 331 in the process. Old Formy then supported the allied landings at Salerno. Three months later the Formidable was deployed to the Home Fleet to attack the Tirpitz in Operation Goodwood before transferring to the Pacific Fleet 5 months later to support the invasion of Okinawa where she was struck by bombs and Kamikaze planes. After being patched up again with wood (sic) and 1 inch armour plate as no correct plating was available in Australia at the time the carrier was back in action again off Japan, crippling the carrier Kaiyo and sinking the escort ship Amakusa. By the end of the war HMS Formidable was in a terrible shape and was passed into reserve before being paid off and scrapped in the early 50's.

 

My favourite story from the Formidable was when, just after the bombs hit in the Med a certain Officer took the opportunity to steal a bottle of Scotch from a sailor previously on Destroyers who panicked and ran(!?!?!). His excuse was, "We had a concrete flight deck, they weren't going to dab us from up there, besides, I wasn't having my card game ruined I was up!." It is only now I realise the realise what kind of world my Grandfather lived through on that ship.

 

 

What are your thoughts for Tier 7? Can you think of a better ship than HMS Formidable?

WG isn’t planning odd-tiered carriers, if this ship was added would be a tier 6 or more likely tier 8, either as a premium or in a 2nd CV line which is what WG plans to do with the CVs that were removed in 0.8.0.

There won't be odd numbered CVs anymore. They'd rather add a second CV line.
