I do like the new feature that using radar or hydro is visible for allies. (Would be nice if even more visible, e.g. in minimap).

What fascinates me is how many players use hydro , radar and floatplanes way out of reach of anything spotable.... even in higher tier games. Amazing... XD

To know for certain you have to use the consumable. For all you know an enemy DD spawned next to you at the start of the game.

People have different goals in random and they rarely check around, this can be the case too (tunnel vision) but mostly its what you suggested.

To be fair, some of the radar ships have a ton of other consumables as well, so it might just be fat fingers.

While I don't have too many high tier radar ships, I can honestly say I've lost count of the times I've smoked up and repaired at the same time.

I occasionally press the wrong consumable, because we cant have unified consumables ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You don't have to reach things with hydro. Many players using it for protection thinking there might be torps going their way.

Most people tend to pop hydro just AFTER the torps are already spotted :Smile_amazed: Thats basicly 1+ minute where certainly NO torps will be coming, unless there are several DDs ahead (which is ofc not always the case)

Yeah, this as well.

Also, since I'm still not used to the "fixed" bloom reset, I sometimes trigger radar upon being spotted after rounding an island or something because I forget that I still have full gun bloom.

I seen people using radar or hydro right of the start. I asked one why he used hydro, and he said: "it sounds cool".

Dear All,

I have 2,845 battles (1,764 in Random)

What I can say with a degree of certainty is that during the last couple of hundred battles I started really understanding the game.

Every new battle I play I discover how much more I need to learn.

The game has depth and it is a "multiparametric equation" that has to be solved for any decision a player makes.

I would suggest you go a bit easy on fellow players that make mistakes.

On the same note, I have to point out to all of you that if I know anything about the game I learnt by being mentored on the forum by some people that had the kindness to spend their time and effort to give me advise. So maybe it would be better if those players that make mistakes (which most probably most novice players do) would be given advise and not, lets put it mildly, be given "risen eyebrows".

I can imagine some reactions to my post. However, just to preempt you, not all players are the same. The ones that don't listen to advise and think they know all are lost cases. If they learn it will be a miracle. But the ones that will listen to advise will be the biggest "gain" for the game. They are the ones that will make the player base better.

So next time you see a "wrong" action, don't scold. Give advise. Don't be "salty" - that's my privilege = be a bit patient and tolerant.

Oh, I should not forget, if you have the time and patience write a primer.

For example - "How to use radar" or "How to use Hydro". I for one would read it attentively,

Regards

Saltface

This actually depends. I rarely play ships with hydro but sometimes I see 2-4 torps coming more-or-less my way and I wonder "did someone try to torp but most torps got stuck on an island (or an ally) or are these torps just the edge of a huge wall of skill coming my way? Or maybe their launcher was just small?" If faced with a situation like that, I would actually gladly fire my hydro to make sure if these spotted torps are really the only ones I need to worry about or perhaps they are just the proverbial tip of the iceberg.

Ye well, thats true ofc. For DWTs id do it too (asashio f.e.), because you hardly spot them. But ive seen people pop hydro despite all torps being accounted for. Maybe they dont know how many torps could potentially come :cap_yes:

Radar
You can use it on undetected ships you want to shoot at that are in your radar range. You can use your minimap, enable radar ring, to check whether an enemy ship is inside your radar range.
I am the selfish radar player that only uses it when I can fire at the target, but you can also use it for your team.

Hydro
I use it when I have to reposition and thus show my broadside to a possible enemy DD. To avoid taking torpedoes during my turn I pop my hydro before hand to make a safe turn.
I also use it sometimes to rush a smoke cloud.

Nah, not always.  I activated hydro prematurely yesterday trying to hover over but clicked it by accident. Ship happens. Its more noticeable now.

I remember a nice Indianapolis that flashed the Radar (upon my request !!) for me to check if any "thing" was approaching the cap I was contesting. I was about to go in from north and he was a bit south and east. He lit up a good 10 Km. Nothing. That was a carefree capping. After we took the first cap he lit a smoked Belfast on the second one I was trying to contest. The easiest torpedo kill ever.

Note: "thing" = Destroyer. Anything bigger I can see from far away. Those "things" sneak onto you. OOPS I sail a Kamikaze.

So because it might happen one in one million times I should give people the benefit of a doubt? "Oh he might have sneezed in his radar-button 20 sec in the game. Might still be a usefull unicum". Hell nah. They are all turds to me and get nothing. At best they are meatshields for me.

I have a habit of only radaring when I know I can radar something. If the cap is free of any reds I won't radar, but as soon as one enters I make sure I am ready to escort the enemy DD out the cap ;p

I've used all available consumables as soon as the game started before. And I knew what I was doing.

Several months ago there was some event where you got given little challenges, and one of them was "Use X consumables"

I found that the way that the only way I could get it done in short co-op battles was to use the consumables needlessly and as soon as possible.

Great mission design from Wargaming as usual. [/sarcasm]

At the start of a battle I have on a few occasions in a DD set off my smoke by mistake - usually when I've been typing something and hit some key combination that means I'm no longer in chat but issuing commands......   It does happen.

I agree that at least now we know other players are triggering consumables - probably by mistake also but previously (unlike smoke) this wasn't visible to other players.

I think it has been mentioned several times before but it would be nice if the keys for consumables were able to be configured - so radar can always be a single character (for instance).

Happens to me when i start typing and i forget to activate chat.

But sometimes i am just evil and I say to everybody: "press enter twice and type TOYZU2019WOWS for free super container". Always amazes me to see smoke clouds ON the horizon. No need for CV to spot DDs.

No wonder my karma is always 0...

It is an indication of exactly how little some people use the mini map. They have no idea where the enemy DDs are and are in a permanent state of panic. Though given the behaviour and whining of most BB players that should have been obvious anyway.

Also funny when seeing a DD smoke right at the start. They are always so high on themselves, must be really good stuff :crab::dance_turtle:
