So is anyone actually enjoying this?

Besides the rare t6 game where it feels pretty stronk, it seems totally lackluster to me.

Small squad sizes mean you get one strike, maybe two... lost planes are felt because of the tiny deck capacity too.

I get they are t10 (well stock ones) planes but even in t8 games the AA is sufficient to destroy most or all of a squad every time.

The biggest complaint i have though is being forced to have Tiny Tim rockets instead of HVARs, arguably the best thing from the t10 planes is their great speed.

But if RNG says no, you get nothing. Even a perfect drop on a stationary DD all the TT rockets can miss.

So what is the point in this ship now?

Zoom around the map superfast weeee look at meeeee.......

Used to absolutely hate Lexington, but right now, its more fun than Saipan :fish_glass:

Opinions? Advice?

She's a tricky one for sure. It's funny how the rework turned the tables. Now the old, much-maligned Lexington is basically the gold standard of all CV's -- including the IJN! And the Saipan though not bad is regarded as a tricky one to do well in.

The Tiny Tims are actually really, really good once you get used to long approach needed to tighten the aim. You can hit big ships with most of your salvo and they feel like they do almost as much alpha damage as the bombs. But they also make the ship somewhat limited -- you have a hard time dealing reliably with DD's, but you're basically an anti capital ship specialist.

I fortunately started the rework with a 19-pt USN CV captain, so I have ALL the skills that improve the planes. I feel like the Saipan really needs these to make good use of that limited hangar -- I think I'd use this ship only after you have a high-skill captain and not use her as a trainer.

Overall I kinda like her because she's so different from the Lexington and the Enterprise -- this is a good thing. I expected to sell her immediately after rework, but I think she's a keeper after all.

(I'm easy to please right now because I just had a really great game with her -- but yeah I was top tier.)

made the mistake of touching this floating piece of scrap metal again...

barely able to get even 30k dmg because almost no floods

rocket nerf is extremely bad

dive bombers are too few and too fragile to land enough hits to do much of anything on anything

with a heavy heart saipan is no longer in my port

It's not my favourite tier 8, but she is ok. I really like the torpedo bombers. Rockets are a bit lackluster against destroyers though.

I have 91k avg dmg in Lexington atm

            81k in Enterprise

            86k in Saipan

So, I do about the same amount of dmg with all my t8 american carriers.

saipan is great when team is mostly tier6/8 but god awful if its heavy tier 10

the reserve is so low you can end up with nothing left after 10 mins so you have to be extremely careful what your doing

the torps need a epic long run up to close the aim but once done you should get a good few 2/3 hits per drop

the dive bombers are as expected very good but your gonna lose em all fast due to low numbers and high aa damage done to get close and after leaving your drop

its a ship that needs very good cv skills to make it work really well on a constant level and is probably overall the worst tier 8 cv in the game

the plane reserve numbers is the thing that kills this ship and wg say yea but its got tier 10 stock planes but I personally would prefer tier 8 planes and tier 8 reserve numbers at least that way you could feel more comfortable when you lose full squads which you do nearly every time in tier 10 games
