So how does Continous DPS AA actually work? Potential bug!?

So ive actually got confused after i watched my own replay from yesterday where i wanted to analyze some stuff.

 

First the Data:

- Dallas long range DPS 72 with 81% hitchance, that means 58 DPS.

- AA reinforcement 25%, that means 75%/125%.

1. Pic the planes are in the weak sector. I deal 153 damage with first DPS. They are in the longrange sector.

2. Pic Now the planes are in the reinforced sector, once again, i deal 153 damage as you see.

 

And to get more confusing

Between pic 2 and 3, 3 seconds have passed. DPS is applied every 3 secs, because i didnt deal any damage between that.

 

So now the math:

Without reinforced sector, my DPS should be 58. Since we just established, DPS only ticks every 3 seconds.

3x58 = 174. -10% from captain skill aircraft armor = 156. Could be rounding stuff or whatever the discrepency. But i guess the math is correct so far.

 

In either case:

Reinforced sector didnt do any difference towards my DPS. Its 100%, even if it should be 75% or 125%! Possible bug? Or did i miss something, maybe someone else knows.

 

And DPS is actually DP3S :cap_hmm:

Might be a bug not always showing the correct DMG. (Same as spotting dmg) 

 

Planes definitively take the dmg.

This sounds like something that could be tested in training room by taking a captain with manual AA sitting in some premium DD with only one AA aura (so that they don't get mixed up). With 20:180 damage distribution it should be easy to check with t4 planes if one side deals some damage with the other basically having no effect (as you'd expect with 1:9 damage ratio).

The values shown are due to flak burst not continuous dmg, so they are not affected by reinforcement AA.

Flakburst real DPS = 420 * 0.81 = 340

Plane hit by flak burst in 0.5s --> Dmg taken = 170 -10% armour = 153

Wow, so flak actually deals less damage than DPS.

Its not showing top right corner either, as you can see, the number only increases by 153 :cap_hmm:

DPS is not shown on screen and not in the plane damage? That would be weird actually.

It records only damage due to flak bursts...

Yes. Now things start to make a lot of sense. So basically, everyone with high plane damage right now is playing against newbs, that fly into the flak. I was wondering yesterday, why my damage only showed 100-something on my shinonome, while I constantly had planes over me and often AA active. 

Could WG for the love of god finaly build a UI, that gives me CORRECT feedback without me having to guess WTF is going on on my screen? Is that too much to ask?

Isnt armour only suppossed to apply to continuous? Rather than flak?

It already changed since when they switched flak burst dmg from alpha dmg to continous dmg too.

Pre-hotfix when I tried to play Langley I did find a few cases where I could go straight through 3 waves of flak and still have full squad, but if I took my time to dodge that ships flak as I was in the AA aura for a slightly longer time the DPS would shoot multiple of them down :Smile_trollface:

Definitely was working intended

 

Haven't played since so can't say if that still holds up or no

You can definitively not fly through flak undamaged now. Sometimes if you hit a flak cloud all your planes get heavily damaged, then they all instantly die to continues AA the second after.

Yeah, at t4 you still can

 

Langleys APs and TBs can freely approach practically everything in a straight line, and (in most cases) it will take 3+ waves of flak that you go through to start losing aircraft

Continuous DPS takes more of mine than flak does, even if I'm not bothering with dodging
