Operations : why do players not know what to do for 1-2 days ? ?

I have been enjoying operations a long time. It is even an important reason i bought premium ships of a specific tier and keep playing the game.

But i noticed when a different ( not new ) operation begins players seems to outright suck at it, and it is nigh impossible to finish the operation let alone be rewarded with 5 stars ! When more then half of the players are sunk after only a few minutes the bots often prove overwheling to those still alive.

What is this ??? How is it caused ?? These operations are not new...or difficult if everyone does reasonable damage ??

After 1-2 days this dissapears and you nearly always win with anywhere between 2-5 stars. I used that knowledge not to waste my time  but hate having to wait for 2 days for this strange effect to kick in ?!?

Those who have failed before give it another try 1st days, but make same mistakes perhaps?

I'd love to see the numbers on this one.

A lot of repeat players are not going to be doing it with Random teams. Why risk wasting your rarer camos and flags when you can form an exclusive division?

If those players are not in the pool then their knowledge and skill is not going to be available to the Random teams. No-one to carry, no-one to communicate a plan or offer guidance: no 5 star win. The better ones learn from the mistakes made, get the 5 stars...and then go and look for divisions.

WG then see the number of players in divisions farming the rewards and decide the next iteration of that Operation needs to be harder, thus making it even harder to complete in Randoms.

There isn't a consistent standard of 'Normal' mode. Some Ops are too easy, some Ops are too hard.

But rather than make Ops harder and harder, or utilise the 'Hard' mode, I'd prefer WG to go in the other direction and have an 'Easy' mode for training.

Nerfed AI gunnery; nerfed credit and xp rewards to be commensurate with co-op; doesn't count towards completion achievements or star rewards. It would just be for training purposes to learn about the Operation and how to win.

Some don't know it after a full week. Why? Because all they do is derp along hoping for others to do the critical things enabling them to just leech along.

  • the skill level of the average operations player is lower
  • the willingness to learn is quite low in the WoWs playerbsse

My guess would be that many players are actually new to that particular operation and after a few days they probably either learned to play the operation better, or they received their 5 stars reward once and stop playing this operation.

But anyway, it's better to go to the ops channel and set up a division from there and you should get a more effective team.

That's not my experience at all. When the new Op of the week rolls around, the first few days you usually get the best teams and the easiest wins. Then come the weekend warriors and gameplay steadily deteriorates until the next change-over.

Things have been disrupted lately though, starting with the first cycle after the week when the Ootw was Dynamo. I have been hypothesizing at the time that the good players had been using Dynamo with its guaranteed wins to farm easy credits and commander XP to the point of being completely fed up with Operations, and stopping to play them for a time.

I find some stuff hilarious.

One time we had a few guys (they were in division) and they followed Parks.

Man they were salty. :Smile_trollface::Smile_trollface:

Oh there's a risk too if you find some good players.: they get to know you and your devious ways.

For example in Narai I usually failed to survive the Phoenix from Hell at the CV King.

So they usually sent somebody with me in case I went 'submarine' again in Hood.

So, the only thing to do then it 'git gud'... :Smile_hiding:

BTW divmate always plays the Fiji in Narai and kills the transports. Needs no help.

And then what does he do. He takes a Minsk and just does it. All alone.

Comes second on the scoreboard in that useless DD, too. :etc_swear:

BTW I am sure we can do Narai with even less than 5 players, if we divide the shooting at the start.

Now we sometimes end up all shooting at the same cruiser, while I can blap them just using two turrets.

We should use "MINE" or somebody should be able to take command and tag a certain ship for somebody.

This is what i assumed. But i can't place players in tier 6-7 ships having to learn every time again. Do they go through the tiers that fast so they see all operations for the 1st time ? Or are there that many players that just arrived there ?

I must admit sometimes i sink too after a couple of minutes, due to underestimating a bot DD thinking my secondaries would have finished him off switching with mains to another target already. Or getting a farewell present from that DD that i could/should have expected....But not that often. More often i am fighting an overwhelming amount of bots because (almost) everyone is dead already. Often enough in under a minute !

And the difficulty seems not that hard at all...if everyone keeps afloat and sinks his/her share of the bots......if you get a 5 star it often seems to have come very easy, while many 2-3 stars are fought for very hard.

I think the most important reason why random operations fail at all, is due to the (sometimes excruciatingly) poor quality of the participants.

A while ago I've looked up the stats of the ops I participated in and combined all the winrates and ship types with the amount of stars we got or lacked.

And basically the rules were that usually a win was because there were at least 2 players with a winrate >50% or 51% and the more DDs were in the team, the fewer stars we received (sorry about the latter but that was just the way it is). And with fewer stars, you may correctly transscribe this to "more losses".

Usually a team of 7 would consist of me (winrate 52%/53%), one other guy with winrate 50% or 51% or so, 1 with winrate around 48% 47%, 2 with winrate close to 40% and 1 of around 44% winrate. And one more random dude, usually of below 50% winrate. Sometimes one of these would be exchanged for a person with higher then 53% winrate and this would be the best game most of the time.

They are just that bad. They are often plain terrible, even though often they at least kinda try but then create a loss due to a silly mistake and not interpreting the situations correctly :Smile-_tongue:

The transports give a lot of bxp. It's common for the person soloing the transports to come into top position.

Btw, he also took out that turret over there solo? That's a bit tricky with a Fiji :Smile-_tongue:

And I know about the people getting to know you. At some point I kept getting those disappointed remarks whenever I hinted at wanting to take a Cossack :Smile_trollface:

Just won in an Aegis operation  - 4 star - with the whole team but one dead for more then half the match. In a CV.....

I really had to work for it - with all these damned nerfs to torpedo accuracy  - damaging these convoy escorts to extend they could be sunk, or kill them myself.  Got 7 citadels from divebombing attacks but would not have made it without the excellent skills of the other remaining player actually protecting the merchants. That player used smoke well and killed what i could not kill due to CV accuracy and damage NERFS !! None of the merchants sunk, but ofcourse could not sink the required BB's for 5 star. But this was a  rare exception in my experience...usually am overwhelmend if team dies too quick.

I have rammed a bot DD before in a CV and won, or defended merchants with CV secondaries/dual purpose guns until the last millisecond and won......but that is coincidence, not good team play.

Problem remains. More then half of players dying within minutes. This lasts seveal days, then suddenly improves.

Another operation gone bad like it does many times.....fought for over half the match alone as you can see from the position of the merchants, could have possible even won if not the time ran out......the reward after this does not compare to the effort you have given.

badop.jpg

Many bots came across the sea

They gave us pain and misery

I fought them hard, but the noob teammates didn't fight well

From the air and sea i gave the bots hell

But many came, to much for me

Oh will  operations ever be noob free ?

:-))
