my first encounter with a cheater?

in a BB v BB conflict i'm used to lots of damage being dealt both by myself and the opponents. if i'm using a DD i like to try and aim in for magazine shots on the big beasties with ap shells and can usualy fairly reliably bugger up a (singular) turret after 5-6 salvoes at 6-12km - the rng and the fact that i salvo instead of ripplefire these shots often meaning despite repeated hits to a similar section of the ship, it can take many rounds to produce the desired effect.

until today, where i would up in a "fierce" kongo on kongo duel, for the honour of *looks around* this rock.

 

using my standard practices i began adjustment shots a turret at a time from approx 16km, just hoping to hit his ship, oops, that one splashed behind, oops above, oops below DAMNIT CAPTAIN STOP DRINKING and there! one hit to stern!  readjust sights and salvo - hits all along the ship at 13km...  but why were his guns silent?

at 13km he opened up, one turret at a time, never having fired a shot at me to this point (and im continuously swinging a little starboard/port to vary distance by a few hundred metres as we draw parrallel) and by one turret at a time i mean with an approx 3 second interval -

 

each turret lights red.

slapping the repair button i continue to engage him when he repeats the same firing pattern, now at 15km, AND EACH TURRET GOES RED.  we are talking 3 second intervals between his turrets, mroe or less exactly enough time to adjust to a new marker and fire...

with my guns disabled i attempt to escape at full speed- turning hard behind and putting a cruiser between him and myself, when he finally fires again, and i watch each individual shot of his again unerringly slap my magazines. killing me.

 

the only two ships at that part of the map were him and myself, we are talking about a guy that has taken NO ranging shots, no refining of his aim to get towards the citadel etc, but seems to be able to almost unerringly hit turrets with every shot he fires....

so my question is this - is he using a mod or overlay that is putting me at a severe disadvantage? or was he just incredibly lucky/skilful?

cause that was a game that was zero fun for me.

Had this situation in my CA today... 3 enemy Salvos, each salvo -1 turret.

Much luck/rng for him - or bad luck for me? or something else ?

Nothing to do with "cheats" "haxx" or whatever, its just that the turret armour is bugged, nearly every salvo i do on any cruiser or bb at the moment is taking out turrets.

 

Rest sounds more like rng luck on his side.

Probably another scrub kid using the aim assist mod.

 

The aim assist wouldn't really help him take out each turret like that. It's keyed to hitting the citadel I think?

Fighting a DD with a BB or CL/CA needs you to split shots around of whereever the DD could move to. Sometimes works good, sometimes it doesn't work at all. No mod/cheat/whatever could help here, as a DD can just turn too fast.

To be honest he could have been a good player anyway. The Kongo is accurate enough to pull those stunts. He loaded HE on his first salvos, took your turrets out and then used AP to finish you.

Now, the posibility of him using the aim mod is still there since knowing your center of mass when his shells falls can help him adjust his shots to aim to your turrets instead of your citadel. But it's strange since he could have dealt with you easily on his first shots.

In any case, kudos to him even if he had been using the aim mod because it takes practice to adjust your shots this precisely.

And once more, if he'd been using the aim mod this case clearly shows what you can do with such a rudimentary tool. An improved mod could help you aim at any part of the ship (rudder, turrets, anti aerials, citadel, engine) taking as a reference the center of mass and which ship are you targeting.

Another reason to ban this kind of mods ASAP.

 

Unless there is already a mod out that can exactly do what I described.

If I read the OP right, it means that his opponent destroyed 8 turrets in a row, while firing a single turret at a time? If that's indeed the case, it's beyond fishy. If that's a stroke of luck - and I find that hard to believe - that guy should go and play the lottery right NOW.

yeah, im unsure if cheating, but it was blisteringly irritating, and far too fishy... hell ive managed to ripplefire a ships turrets away, but not with such precise tiings and shooting, once or twice, np but repeatedly is supicious.

 

i did hang around to watch him take out another BB - and it appeared as though his turrets stopped working the same way as mine, luckilly the "offender" ate a bucket of torps... could be extreme skill, but if he was that good he'd be a quickybaby or jingles tbh and wed all know about them.  screenshots would have happened if not for people forcing my game to minimise by calling me on skype at the time, a "feature" i've now disabled

Trrets/ammo delivery tubes have zero ammount of armor at the moment, It's well known Bug, and it'll be fixed soon. Not sure about AP, But HA shells make Turrets drop like flies at this time.

 

Lately i usually play most of a Battle with only like 2 or 3 Turrets instead of 8 in my Atlanta.

Doesn't sound like the kind of behavior I'd expect from someone running that blasted aim mod. They generally just spam shots at the lead point that's generated, though I wouldn't write off the possibility since it'd still serve as a useful reference point for shooting individual sections.  If I'm understanding you right it sounds like (s)he was a good shot that held their fire until within their comfort zone. The accuracy of BB guns go up significantly as you start to close within 15km. I've done similar things to people myself, though not nearly as efficiently. It's a bit on the easy side at the moment since the barbettes (tubes the turrets are mounted on) got implemented with 0 armor.

 

So really, we might be talking about cheating scum, or someone who's gotten legitimately good. Either fits, and it could be both, actually.

And I really wouldn't associate skill with fame, you got a lot more people that are really good at something than you got people that are famous for being really good at something. Not that WoWS have a significant pool of good players, yet.

I've been doing a bit of standardised testing with the aim mod, and this doesn't sound like anything you could achieve with that.

Actually, to my personal astonishment, after 18 battles alternating with aim mod on and off in my Fuso (so 9 each), my hit rate is hardly different. Even when I exclude one outlier it's 20.7% vs. 17.1%... not anything like what I would have expected.

And at shorter ranges around 10 km the mod hardly helps at all, probably because ping is not included in the prediction, and I find my results are actually better if I just ignore the marker at those distances. Precisely hitting turrets based on this mod is something I would not consider possible. It would take the same level of skill as without it.

I don't know of course if there is a new mod that includes ping or some other way of helping you adjust for discrepancies between aim indication and actual hit area.

If the aimbot is allowed in this game then i stop play also.

I played this game from the start but when cheats are comming in the game then is the fun far away.

And aslo i hope i get my money back what i put in the game.....

The 'good old' aim assist mod would not make that kind of shooting easy - but that's a relatively old mod from a paysite that was reposted on an open site, that's why it's so pervasive. Is there a 'new and improved' version? Dunno. Probably. Don't really want to know.

 

Thing is, this sort of thread is the main problem with such mods - instead of the first reaction being 'man, that guy was good. I want to do that!', it's 'which mod did that bloody cheater use?'. I am looking forward to 3.1 and it's new and harder to cheat architecture.

He might have been using SeaPack, the the functional equivalent of WarPack and is now being peddled by the same people who use WarPack. I'm an alpha tester on the NA server and I was offered SeaPack over the weekend. When I posted a thread about it on our forums, I was given a warning and the thread deleted...something to think about there.

You do not really need ranging shots at 13km (or even 15km for that matter).

I would say RNG gods smiled at him :)

 

If I understood the aim-mod thread correctly, it is aiming at the citadel at all times and you cannot pick to aim at different turrets.

As already said the main issue is very weak turrets. Is it a bug or balancing attempt from WG cant really say.

Don't go there...

People have claimed that there were killed by cheaters on WG games for 5 years. There never was any.

The aim mod is, by far, the most cheated mod there ever was on all 3 WG games and well, it doesn't turn an idiot into an unicum so...

This is a one sided account of a NO SCREEN SHOT, NO REPLAY battle, how many have there been in WOT where "I swear it's a hax/cheat" only to turn out when replay is viewed that the OP was wrong & WG engine RNG got the shots in SERVER SIDE.

 

Stop posting these I lost to a cheat threads..., it's a BETA & you win some you lose some, man up and accept things happen, if you ever played WoT you'd know !!! go see the WG, RNG series of videos on YT.

The impossible is possible.
