A plea to all Destroyer captains.

Plea 1. This is not World of Tanks. You do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT need to charge off at the start of the match in order to light up the whole enemy team. There are no spotting medals in this game, you cannot get a scout medal for spotting every single enemy ship so please get out of that World of Tanks scout mind set.

Plea 2. Stop doing Kamikaze runs at the start of the match straight into the middle of the enemy fleet in order to spam off all your torpedos before you die. Each and every game I have played this past week has resulted in all of our Destroyers being the first ships to be sunk, not because you're the ship with the lowest hit points pool or the weakest armour, but because you just charge straight in thinking you're untouchable until one AP citadel hit later when you're lying on the ocean floor, venting in team chat about lack of support and a noob team.

You are ninjas, meant to be working in the dark, harassing the enemy and this especially applies to you IJN Destroyers. You are the perfect assassins, launching well timed salvos of torps at enemy BBs and CAs who are too busy tunnel visioning on enemy ships to notice your incoming silent death.

I especially mean this to Sims captains. Just because you have a mere 5.5km torp range does not mean you need to chase after enemy cruisers. Last night in my Mogami I had a division of three Sims captains CHASING AFTER ME, spamming HE shells at me trying to knock my engine out so they could torp me. You know what happened? Citadel hits on each and every single one of them as I shot AP shells straight through their bows and down the length of their ships. Three easy kills and a bunch of kids crying hacks at me later and we won the match.

STOP DOING SUICIDE RUNS! Your roles are critically important once the enemy fleet has deployed and are busy tunnel visioning.

Do you use AP against destroyers? Nothing wrong with that, I just prefer HE... I like to see how I messed up their torpedo tubes! :D

I agree with what you say, of course. A more conservative approach can potentially reap great benefits; for example, I love going after cruisers or battleships busy firing at my allies, and torp them before they even notice me.

And that is what you're supposed to do in a Destroyer, destroy things that are too busy looking elsewhere. But people are just doing lemming rushes in them to spam off their precious torpedos at the start of the match.

And I use AP rounds if I have a clear shot at the Citadel or if the enemy is trying to chase my Cruiser down, and HE shells at long ranges. I mean after I wrote that rant post out I went into a match in my Mogami. And sure enough our DDs were all dead within five minutes as were the enemy teams bar one who, in all his glory and wisdom and so hungry for a torp kill, went chasing after my zig zagging Mogami. He received AP shells to the face for all his troubles and a one way trip to Davey Jones locker.

Its pointless with yankee destroyers anyway, you should use their strength's i.e their rapid fire guns and their long range, only closing in near the end to finish them, and with the jap destroyers their is no need , well not in the later one's.

Hmmm... well, perhaps AP is still good if you have guns up to 155 mm; with the 203 mm I think there's too much chance to overpenetrate.

Besides, HE knocks out modules like a boss; many times in DDs I've been virtually disabled (meaning either engines or rudder under repair), the ability already used, so all I could do was pray that the enemy would not get me... prayers that went mostly unheeded.

Does it really matter?

It's beta, who cares, let them try things out.

This.

A load of new people have joined who bought pre-order ships, so you are bound to see some dodgy moves from new DD captains in shiny higher tier premium ships, it will settle down as they learn.  You don't mean all destroyer captains though, many know what to do.

Another match, another game where all Destroyers are dead due to lemming training straight into the enemy. And no, not a single premium ship on my team either. All tier 6, 7 and 8 Destroyers.

^ you also lost two cruisers and a battleship, don't see your message to them?

Bad play is bad play but even people on tier 7 will probably only played 150-200 games (if not alpha players), maybe even less if they have focussed one line.

People will take 1000s of battles to work out gameplay, some never will a la WOTs but at the moment it doesn't matter, it's the perfect time to try every crazy strategy you can think and see what works.

Beta? How is this a beta? This is now a paid entry early access game. Beta goes right out the window once you can pay your way in. Any more wise nuggets of logic from you?

I'll just say this to all DD captains new or old.

There is nothing more terrifying than one or two DDs onthe enemy team on late match when you've got none on yours. It's allmost paralyzing if you are on a BB.

The less eyes watching the more you can move around and launch torps to unsuspecting ships.

Those are my tactics. When I play DDs I don't rush off at the start. I'll proceed to mid line of the map at most in order to try and light some targets up for my BBs to shoot at. I'll often wait a few minutes so that either the enemy DDs suicide charge and die thus giving me free reign of the map or they're all spotted so that I can slip through and sneaky ninja Kancho the enemy team. Nothing more terrifying than enemy torps magically appearing behind you while you try to engage enemy BBs and CAs in front of you!

They probably YOLO rushed. I've seen both types of ships do that a fair amount, especially the battleships. Reminds me of the IS-7 players from WoT.

My bad... and i thought my tactics were working pretty well up until now...

Actually... then again, i never do suicide runs... i only ever attack if i've got a 15%(or greater) chance of coming out alive :)

I always rush to objectives and chokepoints, scouting and screening is the work of the DD. You shouldn't engage the enemy alone though, these are two different things.

That explains your 15% survival rate with the "totally not suicide beats" US DD line.

True, but there is one worse thing. When you having absolute blast, killing one enemy after another, even RNG bless you. And the last friggin enemy destroyer just run. DRAW. I hate draws, they should remove them entirely. I would rather have true loss for whatever reason than be denied victory because some coward ran. When your enemy run, that mean you won, dammit.

*Yawn* It should be a closed beta test (CBT) meaning testers should try to give feedback on how to improve the game.

Now I wonder how many pay2betas have this mentality?

This is the issue he was probably pointing out.

This is why cap points exist.

Relevance?

Oh wait none.

Still a closed Beta where we will get all stats wiped. so who gives flying f, let people play how they want, this is not WOTs where people are failing after thousands of games. This is people playing 50, 100 games and making errors in a closed beta where all stats and progress is wiped.

So how do i tell if im overpenetrating?  Is there a set caliber like over 155mm thats too high to shoot at destroyers? A lot of cruisers have pretty low armour as well. Lower tiers too.

You must never be invited to parties. Such a buzz kill.

I don't think the people, who are using these poor tactics are actually going to come here and read the forums. They probably just bought access or just got lucky with an invite wave and never bothered being active on forum. They just wanted to play.

Well, the target gets the message that the shell overpenetrated, but the shooter... well, he might guess if the damage he deals seems to be small.

I'm not sure if this is important, though. One might as well try whatever works.
