Right, now that I have you all here. Has anyone noticed the rounding that WG uses for 305 mm guns? They are 304.8 mm and so have a HE pen of 50.8 mm which WG have rounded to 50 rather than 51 on the data pannel associated with the guns. 51 mm HE pen would have all the nazi BB drivers clutching their pearls, and mildly annoy top tier IJN BBs and the Russian CA.

 

As I am a very casual player, I've not experimented to test if it is in fact 50 or 51 mm, but instead decided to leave it for you neurotic types to look into.

Doesnt matter as long as it not 49mm pen. 50,51 or 55 its the same.

Dividing gun calibre by 6 gives you the shatter threshold, that's the minimum thickness of armour required to shatter HE shells on impact.

 

The data panel shows HE shell penetration, which is always less than the shatter threshold. In this case, those shells will penetrate 50mm of armour.

Your maths is wrong

HE pen = Round(caliber / 6) - 1

 

152 / 6 -1 = 25.333 - 1 = 25 - 1 = 24mm pen

155 / 6 - 1 = 25.833 - 1 = 26 - 1 = 25mm pen

203 / 6 - 1 = 33.833 - 1 = 34 - 1 = 33mm pen

305 / 6 - 1 = 50.833 - 1 = 51 - 1 = 50mm pen

Yes. I tested this in training room a while back and Stalingrad pens 50mm
