IJN Tone and the carrier rework?

Hello,

so now with the upcoming rework and totally new mechanics, any chance we will see the IJN Tone as a new (premium) ship?

 

Could either be a CV in disguise or something like the Atlanta, with some special (unlimited?) floatplane consumable.

 

Ideas? Infos?

Looks like an interesting ship (just done the research).  I like it when WG at least try to make ship in the game similar to their RL counterparts. 

 

I would have an extra float plane in the air (so max of 3 with captain skill). Maybe without the penalty on the captain skill like others do? Don't know if that would be too good tho. 

 

It's size of guns, configuration, speed and extra float plane would make it a good ship to sail and interesting.   Even has torps and good AA (defensive AA is presume) so it gets my vote.

 

However, that is alot of strong points so it need something to balance it out.  

 

Hummm..Take away defensive AA (has float planes), give it so-so armour (Mog kind) and a lower health pool compired to  the silver line (gonna be tier 8 premium).

 

Just some spitball thoughts.

Well it wont have the carrier play considering that controlling the carrier after the rework is considered by WG as too difficult doing 2 whole things at once.

 

But if it got a super float-plane option that patrols a larger area around the ship then standard and having a larger number of them then it could be a very interesting option.

Weel, I hope we will finally see it. I would go for what it was actually designed for and that is a Floatplane Operations / Scout Cruiser. So it should have both: The Catapult Fighter and Spotting Aircraft consumables paired with alternatively either DefAA or Hydro (selectable choice). It also had better armor and smaller citadel when compared to Mogami, so perhaps that could also be reflected in game? :Smile_Default:

Wacky idea and please shoot me down but what if this could give benefits to the rest of the Fleet?

 

Like a 5%-10% extra range of all guns on your team if he deploys his float planes?

 

Or is this gonna turn the game into some kinda LoL.

 

Just trying to think of ideas for people to play as a team in this game.  Something long forgotten.

 

Don't know if that would open up a Pandora box tho.

Weel, I still have an old game called "People's General", whereby spotting is affected by recon units so that any own units behind a direct line-of-sight from the recon unit have their spotting radius reduced, so enemy will not be able to see them so easily and likewise the recon unit itself has improved spotting radius when compared to others, though the unit itself gets no special concealment bonus as such (but of course they tend to be rather steathy-ish anyway), unless, of course covered by another friendly recon unit in turn. Therefore some such arrangement should be doable (well obviously, since it has already been done in another game, duh), how it would affect the game balance and so on, i have no idea. But it is an interesting thought.:Smile_great:

This. I don't see how it could be implemented with attack squadron, considering current CV and planes controls. IMO both fighter and spotter plane consumable would be the best way to go. Unless of course WG don't come up with some special spotter plane consumable just for her.

That was my original thinking (not a fan of all these gimmicks).  Just thought i would test the water, please don't hurt me :Smile_hiding::Smile_veryhappy:

 

Just thinking of ways to increase teamwork.  

 

(a tinny bit inside of me thinks it could work, forgive me god)

Considering WG has already put forth some seriously weird ideas for the alt CV lines that are supposed to come out later I don't see this as impossible.

Yeah indeed, didn't WG already say that with the CV rework the appearance of Escort Carriers in the game will be possible, so if that's true the Tone might be possible aswell?

HMS Hermes was a escort carrier.  Is that pencilled in the upcoming Royal Navy line as a full carrier?

It's an idea but far too strong (ouch like you said).

 

Gun range relies on the skill of your team to actually hit something.  Reducing concealment will P*** too many people off with nothing they can do about it.  Especially DD main players, they will be in pickforck mode.

Nah, the alt CV lines will follow the first line in tonnage progression. There will only be one new CV introduced (Yorktown at T8), all others are the current T5/7/9 CVs that are being removed from the tech tree with the rework.

Alt line will get support abilities as a trade for lower damage potential. Stuff like enhanced spotting (probably air radar), taking caps, setting smokes, extinguishing fires and, if it ever becomes necessary, ASW.

 

You can already view the preliminary tech tree in the relevant post on the dev blog, also found in the "info from around the world" thread.

Dude... What attack squadron be you talking about? Having both fighter and Spotter plane consumables IS exactly what I am talking about... :cap_hmm:

I was talking generally. There is a lot of people that want to add attack planes to Tone. I never said that you said that. I was agreeing with you about Tone having only fighter and spotter planes.

tbh, in my pov rework kills any possibility for an interesting implementation of tone. just as for the concept of an attack carrier (pwn secs, point'n click shortrange squads).

with the new meta being able to only control 1 squad at a time and no true handling of mothership inbetween i literally see no chance at all to make tone concept work.

On the other hand if Tone gets attack aircraft they might finally see that letting us switch between the squad and the hull COULD be a good idea. :Smile_sceptic:

*only way i can think off would be: make it a 2-div ship. so one player controls the ship while a 2nd is flying around. tataa :dance_turtle:

for me it would be ok to get a late war Tone as AAA Ship ( 8x127mm + ~60 x 25mm guns IIRC) & DeffAA . No need for this „Hybrid“ CV IMHO.

Also a late war AAA Maya

8x20cm mainguns

4x4 Torpedotubes

12x 127mm AAA

66x25mm AAA

36x13,3mm AAA

Considering how the CV rework plays like, any hope for anything even resembling a hybrid ship got buried in an unmarked Gulag massgrave.

 

As bot ships in an event mayhaps but player controlled, never.
