0.8.0 is an end of the game as we know it. Let's see what it cost us

Hello forumites!

As we all know, 0.8.0 is going to rewrite the game and every aspect is going to change. CVs, AA, ship concealment, bloom time, MM, everything. That is why I decided to sum up my investments in the game. I thought it would be informative for all of us and you might want to do the same.

Joined: 21/08/2015   3 years 4 months so far.

Spent: 897 €                Almost 300 € per year.

Games: 7955 (it's more but we don't know CW games...)  If I count an average of 10 minutes for a game, it means 1326 hours of playing. That equals 55 days. Counting with 4 € / hour -> 5300 € worth of time.

And this is going down the toilet thanks to CV rework. Great, isn't it?

How are your noumbers?

Wait, since when u " should be paid for having fun in a free to play game " ?

U should give a valor to the playtime WG gifted u.

Nope, I'm waiting to play it, for the meta to settle and then I will form an opinion, when I have enough to go on.

same here, although I'm probably going to take a break from Warships for the first month or two, let the dust settle, give WG time to sort out the biggest of the inevitable balancing flaws - and then judge something approaching the "final product"

Will the 0.8.0 suck? Yes. Will it cost the game a lot of the playerbase? Probably. Will it kill the game? No, I doubt that.

The risk is that it loses enough of the player base to no longer be profitable.

From a player point of view, well , my point of view, this update is rushed and it will break what little balance we have now.

It wasn't tested enough on test servers. It has no place on live servers, and specially not in random game mode (maybe a separate game mode?).

How come it takes WG a year to collect data to "balance" (with a sledgehammer) something but only couple of weeks/months to go ahead with CV rework?

I mean, if it takes a year on test server to collect and test things than it takes years. That's what test server (environment) is for.

I'm going to say something stupid :

Questions:

  1. Does WG try to improve the game ?
  2. Does WG did a good job so far ?

My opinion:

  1. I think they do since better game => more players => more money
  2. I find that overall they improved the game:
    1. I feel better playing DD radar ships are more threaten now, CV are rarer
    2. Cruisers were the victims of the game, now they are quite enjoyable and strong to play
    3. BBs seem balanced and you don't find as many BBs as before
    4. Rewards, missions, game mechanics are quite fun (arm race, alloween, sprint, CB etc.)
    5. Better graphics, less bugs

Can we try first, see how it works, if it's fun and see what is needed to be adjusted after ?

I don't know if game is going to die because of this. But I know that I won't be playing WoWs for a long time after 8.0 is live.

Hopefully I'll be back to see carriers removed once and forever. They should have never been in this game, as carriers completely changed the way naval warfare was fought, making the rest of classes irrelevantly reduced to escort them.

This.

I enjoyed playing the rework CV's. I had fun. More than I did with the RTS ones.

The AA is totally borked atm in high tiers on the PTS, but I expect that to change.

The concealment changes shift around how things like radar on cruisers applies, giving a greater window between spotting and radar range.

The AA changes will change the meta as to which skills are the optimal choice.

It also will change the decision between hydro and DFAA due to change in number of CV vs how DF now works. This has knock on effects to DD.

The catapult fighter has changed vastly - while the AA isnt currently very effective, the fighters are (at least against a CV that doesnt manage to cheese them). This affects all sorts of things - from DD not having a 6 minute fighter circling, to build changes: a zao that takes fighters to protect from CV wont be using spotter planes. This changes things like engagement ranges, and firing into smoke.

In the case of the Des Moines this is now a choice between fighters and radar.

Planes cant spot torps, this affects how planes will impact DD.

It WILL be chaos to start with. Things WILL be broken to start with.

Weirdly Im looking forward to it, it'll be a shake up to the meta.

I see it more as: Lets change X and see what Y result we'll get. It feels like there is zero thinking process behind every change they've made.

WOWS branch of WG does much better job than WOT branch, But lets be honest, WOT team haven't raised the bar that high.

The worst part is that they are rushing CV rework - WITHOUT a real reason (unless console tinfoil...).

Add to that absurdity of having an arcade game arms race as ranked mode, together with bloom time that makes some lines almost unplayable....

One questions WHY, OH WHY????

I have a feeling that I will also take a break, or at least play significantly less.

@Humorpalanta FUN has no price!  If you spent cash and time and you got fun it's great. If you don't... Well, that's called masochism.

If you expect that your, so called, investment should warrant your FUN indefinitely, then I have bad news for you - they will not as it is well described in EULA and terms of service agreement.

I personally do not know what will happen with the game after 0.8.0. I'll just wait and see. If I cannot find FUN after I will look for it elsewhere.

However, the time and cash I've spent so far are well rewarded.

Obviously the recent change to gunbloom was a bug (i.e. noone is spotting you, gunbloom resets after 3 sec) now they will not only revert back to what it was, but rather gunbloom will stay at max for 20 secs even if noone ever spotted you - so i heard atleast. Its on PTS right now.

I'll stay playing Co-op as that shouldn't be badly effected by the bot CV's but my biggest gripe is that I deliberately spec for full AA on all my AA ships and from what I've seen so far during testing and on PTS it'll be a waste of time and points now as the 1 point twin catapult skill has more effect on AA than the actual reworked AA skills.

So TL:DR I said the AA rework would be garbage and so far it is.

rework after rework after rework. One day maybe WG will realise that CVs doesnt fit into that game very well...

Its the only class thats allowed to deal damage without risking to lose their ships.

Sadly removing them completly from the game isnt an option for WG.

Based on what I've seen (as someone who doesn't play CVs) - not hopeful at all.

But I'll see what it's like. Wouldn't be surprised to take a break for a couple of weeks until things settle down. I can only imagine what 2 CVs per side is going to be like. It's bad enough at the moment, but at least i feel like i can take a few planes out in a fletcher.

I don't understand the infinite planes at all. Currently if planes fly over/near a AA spec cruiser - that effects the entire game. Now - it's no big deal - you just get more planes. It would be as stupid as showing a broadside taking 2/3rds damage, but then getting all your health back 1 minute later. i.e. No consequence for bad play (or good play by the cruiser)
