I just blew 100,000,000 Credits

I just watched an excellently presented video by StatsBloke in which he talks about the coming patch.  He describes the "Snowflakes" we will be "brushing off" our higher tier ships.  Each ship above Tier VI gets a snowflake and you delete that by winning a battle for rewards.  Tiers Vi and VII are going to yield coal. Doing this at Tiers VIII to X will give you steel for each ship.

 

So I took his advice and I've re bought some of the Tier IX's and VIIIs that I had sold and I researched some trees to Tier X and bought the ships.  I now have  Moskva for example.  I had to sell some low tier tubs (for some reason I still had three of the Tier I starter ships) and the French ships I got through missions (never going to play them anyway) but I've got as many high tier ships as possible ready for this event.

 

So you might want to consider this yourself

 

Even though this has to do with a video I think more eyes will see it in Gameplay than the sub-forum.

5 through 8 get coal afaik.

Tier 8 & 9: 100 Steel

Tier 10: 200 Steel

The questions you should ask yourself:

• how long is the event
• how many battles can you play during the time

With 107 Tier VI+ ships, it will me take quite some time to play the battles.

I'll wait for official announcement before start to buying a ships for "blowing the snowflakes". Have 460M of silver and not much to spend it on so that would not be a problem.

I got a bunch of ships to play.  Seemed worth it.  Besides what else would I use those credits for?

~16 min = ~1,6 mil credits, so 100 minutes playing time for 200 steel.. sounds like a good deal imo.

I'm sure I read the Live server will be T5 and up.

 

I'm going to have to sell a couple of T4 port queens to purchase some new T5s I've researched but not played, but that's comparatively cheap!

Edit2: patch 0.7.12 is expected to drop on Wednesday 12/12/2018.  after 19/12/2018.

 

Edit3: this means that the T2 cheap-o premium DDs: Tachibana Lima and Smith will also qualify. Might finally succumb to that temptation.

While Steel is tempting, I can't be arsed to buy back the T8 ja 9 ships I sold just to get small amounts of Steel. This event did inspire me though to finally buy some T8 ships I have been planning to buy and grind, namely Kagerou and Charles Martel.

I think WG found a nice credit-sink for players who were asking what to do with all unused credits accumulated for years.

Considering you can farm credits so much easier than you can get steel, very much worth I'd say. Plus most longtime players should already be sitting on loads of credits anyway with little to spent it on so I reckon a good chunk of people wouldn't even get much of a dent in their bank.

 

If anything, the only concern that would make this a tougher decision would be if someone's lacking in port slots. Spending 300 doubloons the steel is a different beast to just throwing cheap credits around.

This date 12/12/2018 has got to be wrong, Twilight battles end 20/12/2019 on EU last day of 0.7.11, statsbloke has the dates wroing.

How much coal do you get for tiers 5-8?
